Battle Report for first FULL 400 Point game

By Cuthawolf, in Star Wars: Armada

So Wave 2 finally hit our LGS and KushielRDF and I decided to throw down with some new toys. I've had an MC80 since Sullust and he's had RaV as well, but this was the first real throwdown where we both had access to Wave 2 in its glory. (Mostly. I couldn't pick up my stuff today, but I had the MC80 and Kush let me use his RaV)

Imperials:

ISD 2 w Admiral Ozzel

Glad 1 w Demolisher

Glad 2 w Insidious, Director Issard (Who, it should be noted, is a dirty wench)

TIE Fighter x2

Firespray

Darth Vader

Bossk

Major Rhymer

IG-88

Rebels:

MC80 Command w General Dodonna

AF2A w Paragon

CR90A w Turbolaser Reroute Circuits

Wedge Antilles

Dutch Vander

Han Solo

Dash Rendar (Henceforth renamed to ****** Rendar)

Nym

X-Wing x2

Now this was sort of an impromptu throwdown, which is why you see so many Wave2 Aces popping up like starfighting whack-a-moles. The mission of choice was Dangerous Territory, with the Rebels(me) as player 2.

I HORRIBLY misplayed my MC80 from almost minute one. The ISD set up pretty much straight in the middle, and I set up turned slightly to his right ( my left) so I could stay in his front arc ideally as little as possible. This paranoia would last for the whole game. The Paragon set up angled to my right, forming a V with the MC80, and the CR90 tucked behind the MC, facing the same way at the Paragon. Both Glads were on my right, looking down at the Paragon.

First round pretty standard, he banked engineering, I banked navigates. Fighters moved into position.

Second round Han Solo pre-empted and jumped into the enemy fighters, pinning them down before Rhymer foolery could start and biting a piece out of Bossk in the process. ISD activates fighters, takes a long range shot at the CR90. Bossk and Co. knock about half of Hans hull off before my MC 80 activates and the X-Wings come to his aid. Wedge and the X-wings moving in to provide escort, Nym moving off side to support the Paragon and ****** Rendar jumping on the Firespray hiding in the asteroids. Small die pool long range shots were exchanged between ships. Squadron phase IG-88 moves in and opts to bypass Wedge, smacking the wounded Solo.

Third round Solo started again, finishing off Bossk from the safety of his Escort, but unable to disengage with grit because of pushy IG-88 backing up the remaining TIE fighter. The ISD turned towards the Paragon, which was starting to take a beating from the Demolisher. Ozzel's ability to have them shift up to 3 to slip and arc and then back down to 1 for better yaw was very much paying off. The CR90 proved my love of Reroute Circuits by taking some pretty fierce bites out of the ISD's shields. If I'd managed to have him on a smaller target, it might have been better. This was also basically the last round the MC80 did anything. It activated fighters once more, continued speed 2 circling and essentially was out of range for shooting and activating fighters from now on. Like I said, I HORRIBLY misplayed it. I'm having a hard time using the MC80.

Rebel fighters cleared out pretty much all of the Imps, but lost an Xwing, Dutch, Solo and Rendar in the process. Nym I ALSO managed to horribly misplay and he did nothing for the whole game. The Glads chased down and murdered the Paragon because the ISD split my formation down the middle, letting my own fear keep the CR90 and MC80 on the far side of the ISD from the Paragon.

Kush won by about 20 points I think. The Paragon plus some VERY pricey dead aces netted him a lot of points, whereas all his Squadrons plus two mission tokens left me trailing behind.

Thoughts on things? Love the TRC, want more. Finally getting more comfortable with the CR90, it's only taken me the better part of a year. The MC80...just might not be for me. Maybe it's above my skill level, I don't know. Either I'm paranoid about losing it and it does very little...or I lose it and it does very little. The AF2A remains a solid workhorse that would have done better if I wasn't trying to make him carry the whole engagement by himself. Kinda falling out of love with Paragon, I sort of like the B variant without the title. Solo was amazing, if I'd protected him better I think he might have made MVP; His ability to choose when to go is just amazing. ****** Rendar kinda let me down, but only 'cause I let him down. Vader pinned him in place and between Vader and the now escorted Firespray he didn't have much chance. Nym...well I didn't do anything with him, so I honestly have no idea, but I have a hard time seeing him justify the points over a B-Wing or a pair of Y-wings.

So...yeah. Sorry if it's not presented well, I'm not great in the memory department ^^;;

I think the most interesting part of your AAR is the fact is that the ISD had no upgrades at all on it, other than Ozzel.

I may be mistaken, but I don't recall any upgrades. Maybe an ECM?
