Push the Limit/R2 Astromech Question

By Waddlez, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hello I am a new player and I am trying to figure out if this move is legal or not. I've tried to research and I have a question about using Wedge Antilles with Push the Limit and R2 Astromech.

Heres the situation

Start of Activation phase

Can I say target lock onto someone which is an action and would activate PTL

Then use my PTL to get a focus token

Then use R2 Astromech to do and 1/2 speed maneuver which will be green and remove the stress off PTL?

When reading the rules in the book it made it sound like any maneuvers had to completed first in the activation and there was a specific order in how things had to happen, but I've seen videos that players did differently or what it at least looked to me looked different.

Thank you

There are certain upgrades that allow you to perform an action, and thus trigger PTL, before you perform your maneuver - such as Advanced Sensors or BB8 - but the build you have for Wedge does not permit that.

Yeah you seem to have your phrases mixed up a bit.

You can't perform the TL until after you've finished with the maneuver step, so you can't use that to get rid of the stress.

But as Funkleton points out there's things out there that let you perform actions before the maneuver step which would let you take actions then remove the stress.

As a general rule of thumb, for most any rule in the book, there's likely some upgrade or ability that breaks the rule. :)

Thanks guys for the clarification!

You're welcome.

Swap R2 for BB-8 and you're golden - it goes something like this:

Wedge reveals green maneuver - uses BB-8 to perform a Barrel Roll Action - triggers PTL off this action and takes a Target Lock (or whatever) Action and a stress token - executes his maneuver then checks stress - as it was a green maneuver Wedge removes his stress - then moves to perform action step and performs another action.

Pretty sweet no?
