Do black ties matter?

By darthkray, in X-Wing

They do get an EPT, better pilot skill over academy pilots?

Crackshot spam. Now, no one else post so he's not fed. (I'm just answering for anyone else who may look at the thread.)

Yes, because for 15 points a piece you can have crackshot swarms

Why do the new ties have to be white? I'm tired of this forced diversity being shoved down our throats by the liberal galactic media.

Black TIEs love Crack.

Sounds legit!

What about. Draw there fire? That would let the swarm live longer

All Ties matter!

If you go to a black tie event wearing a blue tie then yes, it will matter... people will look at you funny :P

Crackshot Spam, ruthless spam (oh shush it's fun!)

Black TIE's have always been good.

So is the six tie crackshot swarm better then the 7 tie swarm, anyone have any experience Flying the crackshot swarm to shed some light if it's worth losing a whole tie to have

Crack swarm's idea is that you use them on Compare results stage.

So in example you roll hit-hit

the enemy rolls evade-evade-focus.

he must declare spending an eevade or focus here and now.

If Fel (for example) doesn't use it, you declare a CRACK TIME and push that 1 damage through

If he uses up a token, making it a 3-evade you just say "okay, you lost your token!"

It is a one-shot wonder. It can ruin somebody's day, turning fickle green dice into cancerous dice

But yes, being able to give them Crack Shot or Ruthlessness and having solid pilot skill makes them worth considering if you can afford the points. Most EPTs are too expensive to go on Black Squadron, but the cheaper ones can be good on them. Just remember that you still only have 3 hull, so don't think they're any tougher than Academy Pilot is.

In the PS2 TLT meta it's worth losing a tie to shoot before rather than after. That's not even taking the crack into account.

The 'problem' with Black TIE events EPT's is more to do with the non-linear relationship upgrades have with ships.

The more expensive the base ship is, the more you can expect to get out of it, so the more you can expect the EPT to be relevant.

Predator on Rexlar Brath has more 'value' because he's better than a Black silk TIE, and because the 3 point upgrade increases his cost by less overall as %. 3/37 vs 3/14.

TIEs die quickly, so investing a lot of points in one is generally a bad idea, but a few points that they can maximise the use of, or a cheap utility ability is solid on the Black neck TIEs.

Crackshot is really nice for Black bow TIEs as it functions a bit like ordnance. It's single use but they also don't live very long so it's not an issue, and can pair pretty well with Howlie.

Draw their Fire was also popular a while back, usually to keep Howlrunner alive a bit longer.

Wingman also has it's uses on the Black stylish TIEs if you have something that you want to remove stress off pretty cheaply. Shuttles come to mind, with the perma-stop and Wingman behind.

I've been thinking a bit on Calculation, as with only 2 attack dice generally, you'll end up with only one focus result more often than a 3 attack dice ship, so it might be worth considering. But Crack shot is really really good, and a strong ability to use once is generally better for ships that you don't expect to live that long.

In summary, yes, they have their uses, but just because they can take an EPT, doesn't mean it's good with ALL EPT's. You'll have to look at what they are good with and choose accordingly.

Howlrunner and 5 BSP's, all with Juke are also looking nice. You'll burn through those tokens in a heartbeat.

what?

The draw thier fire black squads see some play as howlrunner escorts, IIRC both Doug and Dallas did that and made the cut in worlds 2014.

In the right situation, Black Tie does matter. But usually it just makes you an easy target:

I'd suggest asking the host about the correct dress code and, when in doubt, smart casual rarely fails.

:P

#alltiesmatter

sorry lol

but no academies are better than black ties
Quantity over quality
the only benefit of Black Ties is that they now can use Crack shot, which is AWESOME in mass

Need a comma after "no", otherwise you are saying that there is no Academy TIE that is better than a Black TIE; what you mean to say is that Academy TIES are better, so in other words:

No, Academies are better than Black Ties

depends entirely on what kinda party your invited to.
