Wave 9 Speculation, or what EU ship will we see next?

By DariusAPB, in X-Wing

The black and orange T-70 is not going to get it's own expansion. It's either going to be in an Aces or Epic pack further down the road. I don't think the Falcon is going to get a new model either.

I had initially hoped the stand-alone would be the orange and black X-Wing but expect you're right about the Aces/Epic. Hopefully it's an Aces pack with fixes for the T-65 as well as Poe's T-70.

Not sure about the new Falcon. I think there are enough reasons (beyond the new radar dish!) to release a new Falcon pack. Would hopefully include S&V retrofit for the original Falcon :)

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I want an aces pack with the Black and Orange T-70 and the TFA Falcon, and like 4 copies of Integrated Astromech in it.

That would be awesome.

With still over 100 minutes of the movie to see, there is a good chance we will have options for more First Order, Resistance and Scum craft.

Certainly possible, but I would not be at all surprised if there wasn't.

If they do add those landing craft, I hope the game adds boarding mechanics.

I strongly believe we WILL get a new Falcon expansion. All evidence seems to lead to one of the new characters flying it. The novel Smuggler's Run mentions the Falcon having an SLAM drive. Adding scum pilots in addition to to the primary heroes adds more value, beyond just the square dish. An illicit SLAM upgrade would be well recieved.

Now, the way the marketing for the movie is going, we recieved a Force Awakens Starter/core box. The ships in there COULD have been just single expansions, but a full The Force Awakens theme was created for the game. We haven't seen word on an updated Falcon due to spoiler reasons I'm sure - the same reason we only have the TIE and x-wing as they have been in the trailers and at the time of the core release we knew Poe would fly an X-wing.

Now i may be wrong about a scum dial and pilots for the Falcon, but I am 100% sure we will get an updated Falcon with a Blue The Force Awakens package, pilots and crew.

Falcon with SLAM would be utterly beyond game-breaking. That new-canon addition is stupid beyond belief.

I've mentioned this before but the Wave 9 additions are obvious.

Special Forces Tie

Orange and Black X-wing

Kylo Ren's Shuttle

Toothbrush/Cell Phone B-wing

Millennium Falcon Nerf Gun

New Lambda we haven't even seen for over 1 second

That ship from the trailer flying away from (or is it flying towards?) Jakku in the sky that you can make out to be whatever you want it to be if you squint hard enough

"Special" Special Forces Tie (the special one)

"Special" Special Forces Tie w/ original The Force Awakens paint job (Because we don't have enough Ties that are basically all the same aesthetics wise yet)

Kylo Ren's Big ol' winged Shuttle special edition (Wings spread length of mat)

GunBoat

BoatGun

Tie I played Star Wars Galaxies and this is special to me and it should be to all of you too

YT-Another 3+ attack turret pew pew pew this is so much fun (personal favorite)

The timeless EU IS STILL GETTING SHIPS YOU IDIOTS I'M NEVER LETTING IT GO (another personal favorite)

Yeah.. Too bad that the Falcon having a SLAM drive was from a book published BEFORE Disney bought Lucasfilm - Millenium Falcon Owner's Manual, November 2011 in the UK

So it's not canon? I don't get what you're trying for here.

BOATGUN!!!!!!!!

My point was that it wasn't stupid new canon, it was stupid OLD canon (legends) that carried over.

That being said, I personally don't find it stupid considering all the modifications the Falcon is supposedly sporting.

Film evidence points to the Falcon not really being realspace fast anyway, just a fantastic hyperdrive (when it works). Guess that's just one more part of newcanon and Legends to put on the ignorelist.

I see absolutely no reason why the addition itself is stupid.

SLAM is a thing in Star Wars that makes ships go faster, it makes sense that Han would obtain one for the Falcon if he could.

Yeah, it'd probably be a bad thing for this game. But why should someone writing a Star Wars book give two ***** about what anything they write MIGHT do to some miniatures game IF they decide to put the thing he wrote into their game?

And yet, both Filoni and Stackpole admitted that they used games as writing tools. Stackpole played Battletech against himself (no idea if he lost) and Filoni based like 50% of his stuff on the WEG rpg.

That is probably more from Pablo Hidalgo than anything.

Filoni is heavy in the EU though, the climax of an early episode of the clone wars involved an exact recreation of the move thrawn uses in heir to the empire.

This is easily the best post on this forum.

In ANH the falcon wasn't faster than ISDs but it was on par with that TIE it was chasing down right before the tractor beam got em.

In ESB the falcon still had trouble evading ISDs and seemed to have been in disrepair for most of the film. TIEs easily kept pace with it.

In ROTJ the falcon was chasing down TIE Interceptors. Nuff said.

Looks like there's a progression of the Falcon getting faster over time.

Yes, but that's taking FROM the games. Not writing your story worrying about how what you write might effect the games if ported back into the games.

A person writing a story shouldn't concern themselves with whether putting a cloaking device, or a SLAM, or an ion cannon on a ship would make it OP in a miniatures games. That's the game developer's job to worry about that.

Well, I'm sure if any one of us FFG forumites write a Star Wars story, we will be the ones worrying whether it would work well in a game context. But then, I doubt any of us will write an official Star Wars story. :D

I want a cloud car and snowspeeder. Atmospheric wave FTW

It just leaves -certian forumites- screaming about how the game developer didnt match the source material.

With AT-ATs and a Hoth surface gaming mat.

Does "official" include fiction posted to an official star wars page? Cause I made one last week.

Defenders... Come on, they'd never match the TIE FIGHTER source materiel. Rebellion(Supremacy), Galactic Battlegrounds or Empire at War (Forces of corruption) would be more reasonable.

In TF, even Alliance the Defender was too ridiculous.

It was ridiculous enough to be purposely omitted from XvT (I did hack mine to put it back in with a little help from TIE98).

I'd rather like to see some more love furnished upon the canonically older ships, such as the Y-Wing. My beloved, clunky wishbone could really do with some more pilots.

As for new ships? Skipray Blastboat from the EU, all the way!

That's awesome! So now you have to share: was your fictiob influenced at all by what might be overpowered in a game context?
