Why do people want the TIE Avenger when it is basically just the TIE Advanced, which we already have...?

The TIE Advanced is a TIE Fighter with shields and missiles. The TIE Avenger is a TIE Interceptor with shields and missiles.

I mean, why would you take perfectly good bomber-style panels and cut ugly chunks out of them.

Because the Avenger's guns are mounted on the wings like the Interceptors, which cause the wings to extend beyond the front of the ship. Which requires chunks to be cut out of them so that the panels don't block your side view.

Disagree. I think that version looks a lot better than the one in the games(and not just because of the level of detail).

Firstly - the Interceptor's cutouts work visually because of how sharp the panels are. Fractalsponge's version does make the Avenger's panels sharper, but it's still wierd, might be the divider angles on each panel.

The detail exacerbates and creates problems with the design. The ball cowl that cuts off to a vertical front face, the stupid notch between it and the struts that creates a gooseneck with the cockpit...

It needs a lot more work, but I don't know if it deserves it.

The part that makes it work for me is how FS's version makes the front cutouts longer than the back ones. It gives the ship a much more Interceptory look over the ones in TIE Fighter where the cutouts were about the same length.

I also just REALLY like the way the cockpit looks on that. Especially the missile launchers located in the grooves to the sides.

FSs work is amazing. He takes ships that might look a little doofy and makes them look outstanding.

After seeing his Avenger and Hunter, I would kill to see what he could do with the Aggressor and Oppressor.

A. If your definition of coolest is most iconic or largest impact, and not just coolest looking, then sure. The TIE Fighter is far from the coolest looking TIE.

B. Unless you're trying to suggest that the TIE/ln should get rereleased in Wave 9, this statement is pretty pointless. A ship that's already out is cooler than the Avenger? Well I guess that's a good reason not to release the Avenger, right?

No point arguing really. Everyone has a right and prerogative to differ in their aesthetic choice.

I feel it worth linking to the Assault gunboat, DX-9 and JV-7 threads.

All ships I feel are gorgeous. The latter two I have 'mel's for, the XG-1 gunboat I don't because of my stoic belief that FFG will make one soon.

Wave 9 will probably be more EU stuff, and somewhere in there I'm guessing we'll see a scum Huge ship. Maybe more ships from rebels is possible.

Wave 10 however, I'm guessing will be related to Rogue One - so more galactic civil war timeline stuff, maybe more x-wing pilots, etc.

That is not at all what i was going for. I am not arguing for not releasing the Avenger, quite the opposite. If FFG finds a niche and there already were some nice suggestions here I am all for it, since it is an alright design. I wouldn't mind it existing. If you guys all enthusiastic for it even better.

I do however oppose the notion that the Avenger is "objectively the coolest". It isn't, because there is no such thing. You may like it the best and thats is fine by me. I prefer the TIE/ln or TIE Bomber by a lot, can't decide between the two. My opinion is worth neither more nor less than yours. That is subjectivity.

Since we let the bad tasters get the sandcrawler into the game, pretty sure we can get what is objectively the coolest looking TIE Variant into the game.

It's not subjective, some people are just wrong about things. TIE Avenger for wave 9.

If TFA is anything remotely similar, you aren't going to be able to build entire waves around just the ships in the movie.

I'm going to disagree with that last sentence. We have seen a total of just under 7 minutes of footage from the movie. From that footage, here are the ships we have seen:

The Millennium Falcon

T-70 x-wing

TIE/FO

TIE/FO special forces variant

First Order landing craft

Kylo Ren's Upsilon class command shuttle

We have seen from (leaked) Lego sets

Resistance landing craft

Black and orange T-70

Taking out of the equation the TIE/FO and T-70 we still hace the Falcon, SpecIal Forces TIE, both landing crafts and the command shuttle. If a new Falcon also has the scum dial, we would have ships for every faction.

With still over 100 minutes of the movie to see, there is a good chance we will have options for more First Order, Resistance and Scum craft.

Certainly possible, but I would not be at all surprised if there wasn't.

The black and orange T-70 is not going to get it's own expansion. It's either going to be in an Aces or Epic pack further down the road. I don't think the Falcon is going to get a new model either.

If they do add those landing craft, I hope the game adds boarding mechanics.

I can't see boarding mechanics in x-wings future standalone... different timescales.
