Kanos Vs. Tetran

Dis.

The question isn't which is better, it's which is the least worst. And the answer (in my opinion) is Tetran with Stay on Target, because he's at least fun in friendly games. But both of their abilities are insanely over costed, and only work by taking away the tokens you need to survive; and they're super situational, which means (for most of the game) you're wasting points. Plus, they don't have the PS to reposition after a lot of enemy aces, which really hurts their usefulness.

I would say Tetran is better because of the EPT. Kanos can't make use of that very good ability without a focus token available. Only thing I could think of would be to take a target lock the round before or get a focus from somewhere else. I have to agree that 2 AP's would be better :)

Kanos can't really use his ability because he can't take PTL.

Cowall can't really use his ability because he is stressed from PTL.

Soontir is so good because he profits from the stress from PTL.which is as good as a third action.

is kanos good in epic w/tarkin or comms booster? (or just with fleet officer)

Interceptors need EPT, because PTL and the K turn variety gives Tetran the variety of maneuver.

Kanos however would serve well in an alpha swarm for epic.

Lorrir anyone? Does anyone here like that boss?

Lorrir... I don't like him personally, but I know a couple people around here really enjoy his hijinks.

Kanos can't really use his ability because he can't take PTL.

If you're not taking SoT on Cowall, you're taking Predator or possibly Lone Wolf. PTL isn't a great option for him... it makes a situational ability basically impossible to use.

With autothrusters as a thing, maybe this thread is the excuse I need to start thinking non-PTL innerceptors.

A very quick list I just brought up were 4 Sabres with autothrusters and juke.

Also, how do I post pictures on FFG? I always get this answer;

You are not allowed to use that image extension on this community.

You are probably trying to use images from the X-Wing wiki. They have some version info that needs to be trimmed off to work correctly.

What you are trying to use probably looks like this:

Thats what I thought about Juke in the first place. But ... you really need your actions for Boost and BR. You can't arc dodge if you just take one evade.

So still no 2 point EPT in sight to support 4 Sabers ...

I mean it can work - just like 4 Sabers with Opportunist can work ... just like 4 nakes Sigmas can ;)

Exactly, non optimal.

But going back to the original topic, I've tried SoT on Tetran and just couldn't get it to work.

I really dislike responses like this to OPs like this. Are there better options in highly competitive environments? Of course. Does doing nothing but pointing that out (minus the 'competitive' context, even) help us understand the cards in question better? Not really, especially when Jax costs more points to begin with. If a game strives for balance, a more expensive card should be better in some way.

In a straight comparison, Kanos is probably better than Cowell. They both have versatility of some kind, but Kanos' at least involves tokens where Cowell's leaves him stressed. Once you start adding other upgrades or ships, Cowell should win, what with the EPT slot. As noted above, Stay on Target (take any 1-, 3-, or 5-speed maneuver), Lone Wolf (both offensive and defensive buffs regardless of stress), and Predator (offense only) can help make better use of his ability. A Shuttle or something hanging around with a Fleet Officer helps both pilots, since Interceptors live and die by their tokens, particularly defensive ones like Focus and Evade.

Believe it or not, fun is still the main reason to play this game, not competition. Cowell with Stay on Target is fun for the reason above. Kanos can do fun stuff, too, like get a Focus from a Fleet Officer, take an Evade, and hang out at range 3 of a target. He'll have 4 Agility and defensive tokens against return fire, while able to muster up to 4 hits on his own attack. And since he's so tokened-up, the Shuttle might be a more tempting target for the opponent, which is where his ability comes in handy, allowing him to use all defensive tokens on offense as well.

It helps us understand that carnor jax is the answer

But if you want to get technical on points, royal guard w/thrusters

Honestly though, no one can tell you why ffg did what they did with aces

Kir Kano's is, I suppose, in danger of being very decent but they dealt with it by removing his ept

I like Kir Kanos, to be honest. His Pilot skill is low enough that you can save your evade token to use for defense if you need it against Aces. And if you don't its an extra damage going in.

Just imagine if Experimental Interface were non unique, and didn't limit you to an action from an upgrade card.

Every Squint gets a lift, and PS 6 or better Squints get amazing. Even Fel gets more options, without necessarily being OP.

At that point, Kir Kanos might actually be playable.

Kir Kanos, with Autothrusters, Stealth Device and that evade token becomes a very nasty thorn in your side that's a pain to kill.

Just be prepared to keep him out of the action, hiding, waiting.

kanos + TC

He deals damage and can bank locks to combine w evade. Often low on target priority, full dial access. Hits 3/4 agi and autothrusters

Kir is cool. I really (would) like to fly him.

in casual games.

in a tournament list? hell no! he is most likely the reason why you lose.. at least in otherwise balanced games. I'd really want a reworked card, just an ept-slot is all he needs.. poor guy *sigh*

The big issue with these guys and why they'll never see play is dice mods

Kir can't mod beyond the evade, but would be bloody perfect with PTL focus + evade hit on either attack or defense

Tetran likewise can't modify **** after using his ability

I have seen half decent use out if him through lone wolf though

Still, fact remains they're largely unreliable. If you ask me, there's nothing less fun than a tactical game that hinges on RNG but that's sadly what you're banking on with these pilots

Not so with soontir; not so with carnor
