Dee's "Efficient" Ability...

By Syragar, in Battlestar Galactica

I have a question about Dee's "Efficient" ability. It says that you can move any number of civilian ships on the board when you activate Communications. I believe I remember hearing someone on this forum say that if anyone activates Communications, they can either move two different civilian ships one space, or they can move one civilian ship two spaces. What does this mean for Dee? Can she move any ship as many spaces as she wants? Or can she just move each ship a maximum of one space?

You only move ships one space with communications, no matter how many are being moved.

I could have sworn that I read on the forums somewhere that you could either move two civies once, or one civie twice. Maybe I'm getting it confused with activating vipers?

Unmanned vipers get one action when activated: launch, move, or attack. Piloted vipers move one space as movement, and can be activated as an action. Perhaps you were thinking of a manned viper being moved and then activated to move again?

I think it may be the Command location that has me confused. It says you can activate two vipers, but the FAQ states:

Q: Can a player use the “Command” location to launch a viper and then move or attack with the same viper?
A: Yes. There is no limit to the number of times an unmanned viper may be activated per turn.

So you can use the Command location to either activate two different vipers once, or activate the same viper twice. I think I got the Command location rules jumbled up in my brain with the Communications location... thinking you could move one civie twice.

Communications - move to adjacent space.

Thanks!

However, there are ways to move civilian ships two spaces if you really try. The first full game I played, I surprised the veterans when, as about a dozen raiders plus Scar closed in on the last two surviving civilian ships in the two port spaces, I played a card that let me activate my location instead of moving. (I believe it is from the Pegasus expansion, but I don't remember the name of it.) I happened to be in Command at the time, so I scooted the two ships to front and rear. Then (ignoring the cries of "but there's nothing to protect the ship in the rear space) I used my regular action to activate Command again, and moved the two ships to the starboard spaces, out of range of even Scar.

Of course, the crisis card I drew activated the raiders, so they chased the civvies around the board and Scar caught up with one (but couldn't shoot it). So the next player followed up with an Executive Order on me. I didn't want movement, so two more actions, activated Command twice, and the civilian ships were back in the port spaces where they started, clear now because all the raiders had hared off towards starboard.

We lost the game eventually anyway, but it was rather fun outrunning raiders that way.
