The M3-A Scyk can not be fixed!!!!

So if we wanted to stick to the theme of the ship there is nothing we can do. But how many of us really care about "theme" anyway?

I was think about this ship today and how much I want it to be a fast ship that moves in for the attack and runs away then comes back again (If it lives long enough). The lack of a 5 straight and boost makes this hard so I was thinking of a Scyk only modification upgrade that lets the ship take an action that will let it perform a 2 speed mauver like dare devil but no stress and since the ship is over costed this upgrade should only cost 1 point.

or for those of you who like sticking to the theme "In the hands of a skilled pilot the M3-A Scyk fighter was a deadly weapon. Pilots of the Black Sun learned this in the Battle of Tansarii Point Station in which many of them were killed by spacers hired by the Car'das authorities who were in charge of security aboard the station. The spacers flew a completely unmodified M3-A Scyk fighter, relying only on skills and maneuverability." So how about a Scyk only EPT like "once per round while attacking or defending you may change one of your die results to a Crit or Evade" 2 pts. yes it only helps 2 of the ships but I could almost live with that

Maybe throw in a Scyk only title that grants the Scyk an EPT slot (but cannot be used if the Scyk already has an EPT slot). That would open your fix up to generics at least :)

And made it more expensive than Tie-ln while it's supposedly cheaper

I was thinking the easiest 'fix' for the M3A would be to simply change the '2' cost on the title to a '-2' and make the cannon/munitions slot a mandatory pick.

So an M3A with a flechette cannon would cost the same as a naked one. Even an HLC for 19pts isn't OTT.

A squad of 7 Heavy Scyks with flechette cannons for 98pts does sounds quite nice really.

It could TOO fit a booster! At least, mine could.

I'd keep it simple and give it an extra hull point.

I think in hindsight if the Scyk had boost instead of barrel roll (like a good interceptor-class ship should) and the Starviper traded it's boost for an evade (just to avoid auto thruster oversaturation) we probably wouldn't be having too many conversations about either (in terms of how bad they are I mean).

That being said, those changes don't really help generics much to be fair. Both could have dropped a point and been pretty reasonable.

For example, a 15 point Scyk with auto thrusters would be an interesting swarm ship.

It's not something FFG would do, but errata the title to add a hull as well while keeping the cost of the title the same and I think the Scyk is set.

IMO the Scyk is what you get when you play too safe while designing a new ship. The designer was more worried about not making it too good than with filling a role the faction needed. While most of us will never know how the design and playtesting pipeline looks like, no one can deny that the numbers are against the humble Scyk.

It really doesn't need much to become useful, though.

Well its manufacturer has a winking jolly roger as its logo so there's that.

starviper would have been even worse boostless.

The starviper is in this grey zone where it's neither a fighter nor an interceptor. Both ships can be fixed, but it would require FFG to change either the cards or the cardboard inset, which is something they've proven to be reluctant to do. Even if they wanted to do it, it would create a logistic issue of having two different versions of the same product, with the same code but with different contents. Then you'd run into the problem of getting people to buy the old, obsolete model while there's still stocks of it. Anyone who's seen a new player or lgs manager buy a stock of first edition game of thrones knows exactly what i mean.

Flew an unmodified Cartel Spacer Scyk tonight to make up points in a scum list (I don't have any Headhunters). The Scyk died pretty quickly due to a bad call on trying to block a TIE Defender.

What I did note was the general lack of green on the dial to clear stress when compared to an A-wing or TIE Interceptor. That and it's weird that the K-turn is longer than its' max straight (5-k, 4 straight). When building the list trying to put the Scyk in with upgrades quickly ramped up costs, to the point where I opted to run it plain and put the points into upgrading other ships (again, really limited Scum selection).

I plan to fly a few more lists with Scyks in them to get a better handle on the ship, in terms of ideas I've had:

M3-A Flare Pod

Missile

At the end of the deployment phase, place 3 evade tokens on this upgrade.

When defending, if you have evade tokens on this upgrade card you may discard one of the tokens to change one of your dice results to an evade.

Both require the Heavy Scyk title so are effectively 2 point upgrades, the first allows you to focus on offensive / positioning actions knowing that for up to three attacks you're guaranteed an evade. The second allows you for focus on defensive / positioning actions knowing that you can at least Target Lock on the attack, with the Scyks two dice attack this isn't too powerful. The latter upgrade still leaves you with a torpedo upgrade slot too, so you can if you have the points, drop in a torp on the ship.

I'm not sure these are particularly good ideas and I'll probably revisit them once I've got a few more games in with the M3-A.

they've already ####ed up with heavy scyk costing more than 0 points, so that's unfixable.

Seeing things SuperCorran does they've been afraid of making a PS8+ starviper.

And then made a Kihraz that's rough equivalent of T-65... right before introducing T-70.

Well, maybe that's pieces of grand scheme, but right now it doesn't look too epic

Well, I like it.

If the heavy title would also add the boost action, I would like it.

With the boost action it also could equip AT ... which is VERY important.

But what this ship is lacking is an ability to boost backwards (even while stressed) to be able to stay in range 3, where it can shine.
