Questions about the force pike

By IlluminatiSasquatch, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Ok, so the force pike has various facts about it not stated in the rules, such as it can have settings from stun to slicing through people. I'm not gonna go after the whole cutting peoples arms off or even blocking lightsabers cause that can be just a little too much power too quickly in my opinion, but should I be allowed to use its stun setting, or is that pretty much up to the GM. Also, since a frickin meter long spear is fairly blatantly a weapon, would it be reasonable to make it collapsible? Should that be a modification or is it reasonable enough to just go ahead and make it collapsible, and therefore, more easily concealed?

Force and Destiny has the Shadowsheath attachment. I'd use that, maybe rename/reskin it as "collapsed" or somesuch. Makes it easier to hide on one's person when the weapon is not in use.

Lol your handle made you the ideal person to answe

Ah, perfect. Lol your handle, you were obviously the right person to answer a question about weapon concealment.

According to the description, you can use the force pike's stun setting, but you then lose the effects of Pierce. The "removing arms" is reflected in the Pierce quality. The description entries often have rules and stats that don't fit into the tables. The vibro-ax and gaffi stick require two hands, heavy blaster pistols can run out of ammo on 3 threat, holdouts and knuckles are harder to find, etc.

The additional rules pertaining to weapons, armor, gear and so on is usually in the last paragraph or last few sentences of the item description; not all of it is fluff.

(The books are usually formatted differently, so it takes some searching sometimes. I think the AOR core merges all of the paragraphs together, and Enter the Unknown has massive walls of text that obscure them, but most others separate the unique qualities and additional rules from the fluff in the last paragraph of each.)

And while we're on the topic, the blocking of light sabers requires the parry talent to really function. Considering the attached xp cost, its no biggy.

Also, the lightsaber could easily sunder a normal force pike, so you’d also have to add the Cortosis quality.

As for myself, I created an attachment called “Telescopic Shaft” that can be applied to most any kind of polearm — vibro-axe in my case, but you could also use it on a force pike. It takes up one hard point, and allows the shaft part to telescope in and out, and adjust to where the holder needs it — I used this with my Wookiee so that he could use a pair of suitably modified vibro-axes in Two Weapon Combat. He was going to have the same mod applied to a pair of force pikes, but then that game shutdown and I never got the chance to give that combo a try.

First of all, Lightsabers have plenty of power without having to house rule things. On the assumption your just playing the Edge Campaign, your unlikely to ever see a single glow stick unless your party is seeking confrontation from a user. With 10 power and breach and sunder as base, Vibropikes still have plenty to worry about even if the parry talent is picked up. It just makes the fight a little bit more exciting.

Also what put said, my merchant Travok the Trandosian has a well customised vibrosword that he often keeps consealed within a walking stick; he often uses it as a prop to dispense rare and exotic materials in it's handle. It's a more civil and discrete way of carrying around personal protection in the wild frontier. So a collapisable vibropike would be reasonable.

No. It is a metal vibrating stick.
