Interdictor tease at the spanish site

By melminiatures, in Star Wars: Armada

I know this image is from Edge of the Empire and that it is not technically an interdictor but an Immobilizer Star Destroyer. But I found it interesting that the spanish site for Armada used this image as the main image for the game:

Also, as a reminder, the interdictor is now cannon thanks to Star Wars Rebels:

I feel like either the immobilizer or the interdictor is a lock for wave 3. As for the rest of it, who knows? Nice catch!

I like the Rebels variation. Very clean looking.

Please let this be in wave 3!

They would be able to have some very interesting mechanics for it.

Interdictors were in the novel Tarkin too.

I like the immobilizer look more than the cartoony one interdictor

Immobilizier much better looking than that derpy flathead rebels variant. ugh. and the giraffe heaad sar destroyers... like. wdf why?

Because tears bring them sustenance...

Love the interdictor-class cruiser (Immobilizer-418, despite how much I hate that name). The interdictor Star Destroyer always struck me as just wrong, like an artist didn't get the memo and thought 'hmm, Star Destroyer with four topiary balls'. Again, I just want something different... having an Interdictor Star Destroyer next to an Imperial, next to a Tector, next to an Allegiance, etc. It's one of the reasons I like the Raider and the VictoryII- frigate, they look similar but still different.

Oh, right, on topic: great find! I wonder if it is a teaser or just using an asset they found neat. Like 'the Mad one', I figure one or the other is a lock for Wave 3, though I'd be leaning towards the Immobilizer-418 due to its presence in Rebels in a time when it's easy to capitalize on it. We'll see soon, eh?

This seems a pretty clear confirmation of interdictors in wave 3, and a preview of what they will look like too.

Only question is: Will they make the game 5-7 turns at the imperial player's discretion? That would be excellent.

as a utility ship i would expect them to have some high impact titles relevant support upgrade slots and cards

Never happen for Tournament Balance, and every ship that comes out of FFG has that in mind.

That said, I want the various Intradictors to be game changers, without breaking the game.

Here's to hoping they can pull it off!

Will an interdictor be medium or large in terms of base size?

If you are talking about the ISD interdictor as shown in the OP, large as it is a modified ISD hull.

If you are talking about the Interdictor cruiser I would guess that she would be a medium as I think that she would be too big to be a small.

Will an interdictor be medium or large in terms of base size?

Small.

Just watched the latest episode of Rebels that features an Interdictor.

It captures a CR-90 and pulls it into its docking bay like an ISD. It didn't look quite as large as an ISD from the show though. I'd guess it will be medium.

It's used to pull a ship out of hyperspace, but the gravity well also work some thing like tractor beams.

I think that image is technically the Interdictor-class Star Destroyer. It is a variant of the Imperial-I, and I wouldn't be surprised if that's a fractalsponge render overlaid with an effect.

I'm trying to believe in the Interdictor, but I'm not certain how the gravity well effect is going to make an effect on the tactical scene. The more I think about it the more forced some of the mechanics are going to feel, except for interfering with black dice rolls. What else could/would it do? Rely on those title effects like...DA? was suggesting?

The appearance of the Immobilizer 418 in Rebels is stark visual evidence that Legends stuff is leaking back into the canon, so all those nice things we once had we will soon have again. And we can forget the stupid things we wished had never happened.

it should be around the size of a gladiator, maybe a tad larger, but way smaller than a VSD

If I have to buy it for a game-bending tactical gimmick, I hope it's a medium so it takes up around 100 points of list space. If it's a 60 point small and has a real kick to it, It will be boring to see it in every game.

If it's a large, then it can have a very potent ability as it won't necessarily be used in every game.

For completeness, this is the site Mel is referring to:

http://www.edgeent.com/juegos/coleccion/star_wars_armada

(Edge Entertainment is the Spanish and French language publisher for Armada and many other franchises)

In this other Armada sub-page on the same site, you can also see various other pieces of artwork that are not taken from Armada but rather from the Star Wars stock catalog. Same as that Interdictor Star Destroyer in the OP; it's an old image that I've run into time and again when searching for good artwork to use in Shipyards cards. So I'd take the "teaser" with a healthy dose of skepticism.

Not that I doubt FFG will release an Interdictor sooner rather than later - I just don't think that image is indicative of this.

By the way, this is what properly scaled* Interdictors look like:

20150613_200431.jpg

They look at home on a Small base, though it wouldn't be a stretch to put them on a Medium one either.

*: At 600m, they should be halfway between a Gladiator and an AFMK2 in length.

The first image looks a bit unimaginative, just a standard Star Destroyer with a few balls stuck on it (and OK, a different structure under the bridge, but nothing very noticeable). The second image looks more First Ordery. I prefer the second one in that it's more imaginative, but it also doesn't quite have the right vibe for Rebels time period. I imagine that's the canon one though.

Or am I misunderstanding something - are those actually totally different ships?

Also, I agree with whoever it was above that said this doesn't necessarily mean that Edge Entertainment know anything we don't (though no doubt we will see this ship at some point, maybe in wave 3).

interesting... what I found out is that interdictor and Immobilizer are different ships: its very confusing that both ships named 'interdictor' in some way.

Immobilizer /Interdictor cruiser (based on Vindicator)

Interdictor-Class Star Destroyer (based on ISD)

the interesting thing about the Interdictor class star destroyer is, referring to the wookieepedia article, that its very different to usual ISDs - I could imagine 10-11 Hullpoints, a speed of 2, shield maximum of 2 and only 50% of the armament of the ISD so maybe 4 dice in the front arc and 2 on each side/on the rear.

im very excited what special abilities such ships can afford to stop/slow down/interdict enemy movements

While I'd love game changing effects, I'm perfectly ok with it having multiple slots, such as the offensive retrofit to allow tractor beams and something else or just default them having beams. I'm expecting to see something eventually like the HWK where it can attack a little bit, but is even more purely a support ship.

At least that's how I'd expect any gravity well equipped ship to run in Armada.
