Very Good Reinforcements

By Seastan, in Strategy and deck-building

My most comfortable victory against Carn Dum so far has been with the following deck. I didn't feel like I was in much danger at any point.

1x Anborn ( The Land of Shadow )

2x Erestor ( The Long Dark )

2x Faramir ( Core Set )

3x Galadriel ( The Road Darkens )

1x Gimli ( The Treason of Saruman )

1x Beorn ( Core Set )

1x Boromir ( The Road Darkens )

Strategy

Mulligan for A Very Good Tale. The ideal opening hand is Reinforcements + A Very Good Tale. You play Reinforcements and put down the biggest allies in your hand, then play Tale and exhaust them to get two more in play. Obviously this doesn't happen every game, so we have a number of cards to help with consistency. Gandfalf+Sneak helps with card draw. Galadriel is there to help put Tale on the top of your deck for next turn, and has a bonus of occasionally fetching you a Steward of Gondor. Erestor/Galdor also help with draw and discarding cards you can't play.

If you can't get Reinforcements, then the backup plan is to play an ally at full cost and sneak in the other, or engage an enemy and drop down a ranger of Cardolan (keep in mind you can use him for combat and wait until he readies in the refresh phase to use him for Tale). This is a deck of many, many options.

Steward goes on Amarthiul and helps him pay for Tactics allies that you draw into your hand.

Tome of Atanatar is best used for Tale, but can be used for an extra sneaky Gandalf if you need it.

A Good Harvest is there to play Will of the West (you will quickly burn through your deck), or other allies like Trackers that are stuck in your hand.

You can also get stuck if you have a really bad opening hand with no card draw in sight. But this trio of heroes can hold their own for some time. Even if you don't get the combo early, you are still generating lots of resources with Theodred and can be playing a 4-cost leadership or tactics ally each turn.

Very cool deck! It's nice to see your take on a Mono-Leadership deck that uses Reinforcements.

Thanks! I really surprised myself with this deck. I didn't expect Reinforcements to be this good. Amarthiul works great in it too. I'm sure you could even rework it into a powerful Dunedain deck by swapping out Theodred for Halbarad and including the maximum amount of all the Dunedain allies. Then after using A Very Good Tale a bunch of times you ready them all with Descendants of Kings...

I really like this deck idea. It's a twist on the Timely Aid/Very Good Tale decks that are available in secrecy.

Nice interaction. You forgot to deal the enemies shadow cards a few times because they already had shadow cards. They still get more.

Yeah, I know they get more, as most of the time I do deal them another. Hope you can forgive me :D

Indeed Sestan, this deck gives me food for thought. I'll try new variations of the Dúnedain deck with Reinforcements.
