Is this list stupid? (Decimator + Tie Adv.)

By demon3o5z, in X-Wing Squad Lists

My favorite ships are the Decimator and the Tie Adv., but I'm not a big fan of 1 big 1 little ship. Really dig one big scary turret, with a pair of aces.

Is this list dumb?

Decimator - Patrol Leader (40)

Tie Adv. - Darth Vader (29)

-X1/ATC (1)

Tie Adv. - Juno Eclipse (28)

- X1/ATC (1)

99 total

Leaves 1 point left over for small initiative bid or a VI or a Determination.

It's pretty bare bones and I'm not used to flying a Decimator without RAC + predator.

Thoughts? Comments? Witty remarks?

There are no stupid lists, only stupid people who fly lists. ;)

I would recommend going bare bones on the Advanced, possibly using two non-unique pilots rocking Accuracy Correctors (or ATC, if you must) and the kitting out a better Decimator, either a better pilot or throw some better upgrades on there.

I threw together a quick list that has more options for you:
100 points

Pilots

------

Tempest Squadron Pilot (22) TIE Advanced (21), TIE/x1 (0), Advanced Targeting Computer (5)

Darth Vader (30) TIE Advanced (29), TIE/x1 (0), Advanced Targeting Computer (5)

Captain Oicunn (48) VT-49 Decimator (42), Ysanne Isard (4), Dauntless (2)

Minimally, you want Isard on your Decimator. Palpy if you can fit him, though you won't want to bother with Accuracy Corrector then. Above, the Tempest can help with blocking, which can help with Oicunn's ramming.

Consider this:

100 pts

PILOTS

Darth Vader (35)
TIE Advanced (29), TIE/x1 (0), Veteran Instincts (1), Engine Upgrade (4), Advanced Targeting Computer (5)

Captain Oicunn (49)
VT-49 Decimator (42), Predator (3), Ysanne Isard (4)

“Backstabber” (16)

This list is 3 ships, as requested, and incorporates a Decimator and a Tie Advanced, your favorite two. The 35pt Vader is a joy to fly, and does circles around other aces, while Oicunn is very efficient, since he can Focus to have double modified attacks and get free evasion actions later on. Backstabber gets HUGE value if they choose to ignore him at the start of the match, essentially acting like a cheap interceptor.

If Oicunn is targeted first, Backstabber generates far too much value by acting as a 16pt ship with 3 red dice, while Vader blasts enemies from behind. If Backstabber is targeted first, he essentially acts as a mini-Biggs and takes evade actions, thus buying longevity for your double modified Oicunn, who has no green die himself. If Vader is targeted first, he can get out of dodge with his amazing speed and boost actions, or turtle up with focus and evade. ,

I'd sooner put Engine on the Deci than Ysanne, but that's just me.

For two Advanced and a Decimator, I'd fly

Patrol Leader (40)
Darth Vader (3)
Juno Eclipse (28)
Advanced Targeting Computer (1)
TIE/x1 (0)
Maarek Stele (27)
Advanced Targeting Computer (1)
TIE/x1 (0)
Total: 100
Juno and Maarek are solid aces, and the Decimator is insurance against PS 9+ enemies.

Thanks for the suggestions guys! Bunch of these are outside my usual comfort zone, so definitely worth trying.

Agreed. Advanced Targeting Computer has turned Maarek Stele into a very dangerous Ace-wingman - provided he's got someone else to shoot first and knock down shields for him, his ability is lethal.

Boostless Aces?
Is it wave 1 or what? xD

Engine isn't particularly efficient on Oicunn, seeing as how you can't Boost into enemy ships. It's never a bad choice, of course.

On any other Deci, absolutely a critical upgrade.

unless you build Oci "full speed ahead captain" build.

Oic

Daredevil

Mara Jade

Rebel Captive

Engine upgrade

Dauntless

the thought being Move, bump Daredevil bump. 2 damage 2 stress and an action. rinse repeat until mushy and/or dead.

I prefer Ion Projector, because it still makes your bulk a threat if you miss the ram.

Also, I don't think you would be able to Daredevil two turns in a row, because you'd still be sitting on one stress -- that would stop the ability to use the Daredevil action. But I might need to look at that longer, to make sure I'm not getting mixed up.

you can't do DD with the build i offered, however it allows for greater maneuverability to get in there. and taking DD without EU is a death sentence.

I may have to try this:

VT-49 Decimator: · Captain Oicunn (42)

Predator (3)

· Rebel Captive (3)

TIE Advanced: · Lieutenant Colzet (23)

TIE/x1 (0)

Accuracy Corrector (0)

TIE Advanced: · Commander Alozen (25)

Predator (3)

TIE/x1 (0)

Advanced Targeting Computer (1)
