Ideas for more Obstacle types?

By DarthEnderX, in X-Wing

shield relay. If you land on it, you lose actions, you can only perform a green next turn but +1 shield. maybe?

"Jettisoned Weapons Cache"

When your movement template or ship overlap this obstacle you may not take an Action and cannot fire, but the next combat phase you roll an additional attack dice. Once it has been overlapped Flip the Cache and it becomes a seismic charge (see seismic charges rules) that detonates in 2 turns at the beginning of that turns end phase. Upon explosion remove the obstacle from the field.

minefields, seismics, john connor nets etc

pay for them, but slap them on a roid or debris; detonate when flown over etc.

we already have the rules/templates for these, so we could use them easily here ;)

Space Slug rock. Ships that land on them run the risk of getting eaten.

We did cloud city game.

Clouds: Cannot spend a focus token if line of fire passes through clouds.

We took 6 obstacle total and when deploying placed 2 obstacles each and they had to touch each other when deployed. We count all types as clouds.

I think I will distill a couple ideas together and propose

Ion Clouds: When your base or maneuver templates overlap an ion cloud, remove all (red and blue) target lock tokens and receive one ion token. Skip your perform action step and obstruct attack as usual.

I would honestly not be surprised if something like this shows up in the game eventually.

Cardboard tokens of ships destroyed (Rebels) only. Roughly same size and shape of original ship. Kinda like the asteroids. But Rebels.

Pick up one ordnance of your choice. Equipped extra munitions on your ship cannot be used.

Things from our campaign.

Transparent plastic tokens printed for the purpose.

Dust cloud (real big-arse obstacles!) the only non-transparent obtacle. face is black and grey.

back is grey with energy sparkles.

Ship that enters Dust cloud immediately loses all target locks, red and blue.

Ships that enter dust cloud can perform actions, but get a stress token if they do. PTLers get 3 because 2 actions+PTlstress

Ships cannot take target locks if the line between closest points of the ships comes through the dust cloud.

Ionized gas cloud (back side of a dust cloud after it got ionized by ion attacks going through dust cloud)

The same as Dust cloud.

Also gets you 1 ion token for base or template obstructing the cloud.

When a ship in the dust cloud gets ionized from outside source, all ships overlapping the cloud lose 1 shield and get 1 ion token.

Rad-cloud

when a ship or template overlaps the rad cloud, immediately take 1 damage card and flip it face-up.

If it is a Pilot header, place the card to the ship.

If it is not, discard the card. The ship immediately gets a stress and ion token.

You may still attack even when overlapping.

Toxic waste cloud

When a ship or template overlaps a waste cloud, roll 1 attack and 1 defense die.

For every "uncancelled" hit result place 1 card facedown.

For every "uncancelled" crit result place 1 card faceup.

May attack and perform actions as normal.

Nebula strain(counts as 2 obstacles, can take epic portions of battlefield.)

ships get 2 extra dice for obstructions by nebula strain.

When a ship suffers a crit result, if the attack was obstructed, the ship loses an extra shield.

If no shields are present, assign 1 ion token to the ship.

Attack range reduced by 1 for all weapons (to a minimum of 1) when either of the defender and attacker overlap nebula cloud.

Attacks and actions as normal.

So Vader would be double stressed?

Any pics of these? Sounds really cool!

Gravity/Magnetic anomalies like small black holes or worm holes

Oh man, I really love the idea of a worm hole where you fly in at one part of the table and come out another.

Overlapping this obstacle at any point during a maneuver immediately causes the ship to exit the matching obstacle using a [one straight] template on the same heading as it entered the first obstacle. This ship then gains a Stress token.

Unfortunately, I don't think there's any objective way to determine "same heading", so you'd probably have to do a random heading instead.

For casual play, simple: Controlling Player picks up ship by base, moves to other obstacle, places down wtih facing as agreed between all players.

For Official/Tourney play? Will never happen due to logistics/argument nightmare, lol. Yeah, random direction might be easier... and potentially more deadly. Falcon/large base ship pops into Wormhole A, pops out of wormhole B... too close to and pointed at the board edge to escape 'destruction'.

The idea is cool. However on the standard small map, not sure if one would have the time to actually use it, before the battle is already decided.

Might need a larger map.

Would also be a nice (epic?) scenario, where some faction's research project fiddles with gravity, trying to circumvent/accelerate hyper-drives. Another faction is to attack the facility. Weird side-effects open small worm-hole-tunnels on the map....

Yep. PLT-party in our meta is an issue. Although Fel somehow trolled us all along, because he still amde 1 action and got his free focus anyway....

They are at the club right now, so that we can use them whenever we play there.

I'm afraid no photos are available right now from the workplace.

Maybe when next time we go to that club (not tomorrow, 40k tournament day! bash the OP marines!) I'll be able to take some photos.

Same plastic used for Warmachine, 40k and FoW templates. Laser-cut

Obstacles with other special rules for deployment:

-may deploy after ships.

-may move after ships deploy.

-may deploy near board (sides). Not deployment edges.

Much larger obstacles with less powerful effects but more area.

What, asteroids coming in from a hyperspace jump just when the ships are engaging?
