Fire breath attack

By MrZub, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Can shadow dragon's attack affect only 2 squares instead of 4? Or should I choose exactly 4 different sqares and each of them would be affected? In other words, HH3c7--NQZE.jpg - is that choice os squares possible or not?

When you choose the line of fire you must choose 4 adjacent NONREPEATING squares. So no.

You must trace a path of 4 squares... but nothing prevents you from going back and forward between two squares ..

In short yes you can.

I see no reason you couldn't choose repeating spaces. However, what is clear is that no matter what path you choose, no figure will be affected more than once by the attack (that is, even if you trace over a space multiple times, it will only be hit once.)

Are you attempting to hit a hero twice, or avoid hitting a monster? Also, unlike a targeted attack, the path you trace for fire breath can absolutely include empty spaces- it will just be a waste of a space.

?

" No figure will be affected more than once by the attack " - I understand that. The question is - if these spaces can or cannot be repeated.

My logic - it is a path with 4 length, and it is unimportant, if they are repeated or no. But some other people say, that it should be exactly 4 different spaces.

By your response, I have to assume then that you are trying to not hit a monster.

I asked FFG this question a week ago. I'll post answer here when It arrives.

The FAQ states the breath can go any direction and even change direction!

any direction from my understanding also includes going backwards to the square it's coming from...

Question:

Good day! Master Shadow Dragon has ability "Fire Breath". It says, that you have to trace a path of 4 spaces in any direction. So can you trace a path using same spaces twice? So that fire breath would affect only 2 or 3 spaces? I know that each figure would only suffer damage once even if that is possible.

Answer:

Yes, you may trace back through the same spaces when using Fire Breath, even though each figure could only be affected by the attack once.

I think FFG should pay Zaltyre a small commission every time he gets a question right, before they can answer it themselves... :P
