A balanced match of team epic?

By Admiral Deathrain, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Leading up to us watching TFA I and 3 friends are going to do some Star Wars hyping, including some X-Wing. One of the guys is my usual sparring partner, although he isn't playing quite as much as me (we play using my collection), the other one already played the game a few times, and the final one didn't, yet. I thought a team epic game (with the new Gonzanti, hopefully) would be a great idea! Of course I'd have to do some introduction first, but then i thought about these squads:

For me: http://geordanr.github.io/xwing/?f=Galactic%20Empire&d=v3!t!150:-1,-1,154,-1,-1,158:-1:22:;18:-1:-1:-1:;10::-1:-1:;10::-1:-1:;10::-1:-1:;10::-1:-1:;10::-1:-1:;10::-1:-1:;10::-1:-1:;49:126,-1,14,-1,24:-1:-1:;49:126,-1,13,-1,24:-1:-1:

The highest ship count, the lowest PS. I am not good at flying swarms, so no big advantage for me. Howlrunner and three buddies hop on the carrier, while the rest stays close. Or not, no idea. Depending on how well my our opponents handle the approach and all that I might reduce focus fire.

For the total noob: http://geordanr.github.io/xwing/?f=Galactic%20Empire&d=v3!t!40:23,-1,38,-1:-1:-1:;40:23,-1,38,-1:-1:-1:;184:-1:-1:-1:;184:-1:-1:-1:;28:18:5:15:M.17;49:126,-1,17,-1,24:-1:-1:;49:126,-1,17,-1,24:-1:-1:

Low ship count, lots of attack dice. I should teach him a bit about Soontir and the Bombers, but otherwise I think this list is pretty easy to grasp while not looking boring. Also has a good impact with two HLCs.

For my ususal opponent: http://geordanr.github.io/xwing/?f=Rebel%20Alliance&d=v3!t!63:76,79,-1,-1,82:10:22:;3:-1,-1:-1:-1:;3:-1,-1:-1:-1:;3:-1,-1:-1:-1:;4:-1,-1:-1:-1:;29:18,73:7:15:U.150;86:18,72:7:15:U.27

He loves A-Wings and X-Wings. Biggs is there to make sure those Rookies survive a bit longer. The Transport both has good survivability and strong debuffing with Toryn, making our Bombers weaker, as well as the Firesprays.

And finally for our not quite, but kind of noob: http://geordanr.github.io/xwing/?f=Rebel%20Alliance&d=v3!t!44:-1,-1,-1,-1:-1:11:U.61;44:-1,-1,-1,-1:-1:11:U.61;8:135,-1,-1,-1:-1:-1:;175:27,-1,78,-1:-1:15:;74:18,-1,-1,-1:-1:-1:;94:8,110,-1,38:14:-1:

A little bit of stress giving, Poe as an opponent for Soontir (somewhat). A few turrets and Ethan to buff both Rebel squads.

Do you think this will lead to a somewhat balanced game? I am a bit worried that the Rebels are outgunned, but maybe I just underestimate the X-Wings. Both TIE/FOs and T-70 have to be there if we want to get ready for TFA.

I think it is still the same link, still has my 50 point build on it.

With so many ships it's hard to tell how balanced they will be. But hey, that's Epic for you. I do have a couple of concerns.

First, I think staring down "Howlrunner" with 7 Academy Pilots is pretty scary, but I'm not sure how to change it. If you end up flying them on top of each other with no actions then maybe the Rebels will stand a chance. And maybe they'll be able to handle them anyway -- Etahn A'baht can really mess up the TIE's day, and the GR-75 could try for a ram. Maybe think about increasing their pilot skill and decreasing the number of TIE fighters. As an experienced player, you know the value of blocking, so your Academy Pilots could be deadly, and perhaps make the game not so fun if your opponents can't ever complete their intended maneuvers. Just a thought you may consider, but I know there are pros and cons to higher PS.

Second, Tactician B-wings. I don't think a new player will be able to quickly grasp the nuances of controlling range to activate Tactician. For the same 3 points per ship, you could equip the B-wings with Advanced Sensors. With all the other ships flying normal, I think he'll quickly see the value of this upgrade, and will enjoy not losing actions if he does get blocked.

Other than that, it looks like fun.

The Sensors are a pretty cool idea, I like that!
