Clone Wars content in future waves?!

By Jimbo2142, in Star Wars: Armada

The prequels don't match up to the magnitude of the originals, which have 30+ years of fans who grew up with the quintessential space opera. The gaffes in the original have long been overshadowed by what made it great: Vader, the struggle of good versus evil, and resolution of destiny. The prequel dropped the ball on the first two points while trying to capture the third. "Vader" is presented as being whiny and unlikable. Both sides of the clone wars are ultimately lead by evil characters, but Aniken meets his destiny and becomes Darth Vader as he was supposed to. And so on...

Anyway, it doesn't appear FFG will revisit the prequels. The H-9 Scurrg is really an exception to the whole of the prequel era sitting in the background of FFG's focus. There is no precedent for them to revisit that period and no real inclination to start here in Armada. If the prequels are going to happen, it'll either be in the RPG or X-Wing (both of which already have established fanbases that can take that kind of shakeup).

Personally I would love to play with some clone wars era ships. I would love to have a Confederate fleet with vulture droids and General Greivious commanding the "Invisible Hand" I think it would be cool.

I'm a fan boy not a fan baby so I don't have a problem with the prequels, I don't have a problem with how Lucas did things. It was his movies , his vision, not anyone else's. And I enjoy all things Star Wars so there is no crying from me on any matters of Star Wars.

Will FFG create some Clone Wars goodies?.... Probably not.

We will most likely see some episode seven stuff since that seems to be the direction of everything lately.

And we haven't touched on different squadrons like E-Wings, TIE Defender, TIE Phantom. Z-95's and there are still all sorts of variants of Calamari ships and still more SD Variants that can be brought to life in this game, so I say we can expect alot of things but I doubt Clone Wars

Hell we could even end up with a third Faction, and some would love a Scum faction and others ....not so much.

Either way we still have a bit to see what comes of wave three in Armada.

And I'll echo of what some have said...

Wave two is a crucial wave that we desperately needed and adds a breath of fresh air to the game. We have yet to really delve deep into this wave with hands on experience and builds and testing the limits with our new ships in a tournament setting.

We have more ships, more squadrons, more upgrades, more commanders to build lists with.

The next few months will definitely be interesting.

Why does your personal preference as to the prequels affect the idea that we could have additional ships to push around.

I really hate the prequels, very much enjoyed the Clone Wars animated series, and would prefer to avoid too much Clone Wars era capital ships in Armada. I really don't feel like the separatist fleet makes sense in either faction. That said, since the cannon already allows for much of the republic fleet (VSD's, Arquieten's class Cruisers) to exist as Imperial forces, I feel like that's a nice place to keep it for now.

As for the myriad of mistakes the prequel trilogy made, their handling of Vader's fall to the dark side strikes me as the most egregious. There is like no foundation for that. They should have been laying serious groundwork in from the first film, but Anakin goes from Hero of the Republic and Paragon of Light to slaughtering children in like 15 seconds. Its practically an afterthought, "hey guys, remember at the end Hayden's character is evil, so you know, do something with that." Terrible.

Some of us wouldn't rather have to sit out a wave for ships we don't care to own. Part of my personal hiatus with X-Wing is because scum is in ascendence, and none of the scum ships really interest me. Similarly an entire wave set in the clone wars wouldn't interest me. Rebels operating CIS ships I can accept, but others would rather see more GCW-era craft like the TIE Fighter or Dark Empire contributions.

I'm 48, I was 10 when Star Wars first hit the big screen, was old enough to go unaccompanied to Empire and Jedi with my baby sister, and have little or no love for the Prequels as films. But so what? If the question is "would you buy and play with Prequel ships", then my answer is yes. The Droid fighters look cool and so does their Battleship, as do the Separatist and Republic cruisers. And if they add in ships like Dreadnaughts, so much the better.

Given the opportunity to buy cool looking and new Prequel ships, or Ep7 slightly redesigned TIEs and X-wings and ISDs, it's really not even close for me, and has nothing to do with which other Trilogy is good or bad for me.

thats what I dont understand, too. Until now, half the Star Wars universe is prequel stuff because half of the films (story) are the prequels.

I'd buy both races of prequel ships, and think they are both appropriate and desirable to have in Armada.

At least with 4 factions, there would be less mirror matches.

Except for the EU. It was semi-canon, and parts of it were really good.

It also comes down to a generational issue. Many younger people grew up with the prequels being a part of Star Wars for their entire experience of it. For older people Star Wars was very well established when the prequels came out, and whether you liked them or not they are not very popular among fans, relatively speaking.

Anakin in that show was James T Kirk. An overconfident hero, right winged, that has never faced a no-win scenario and when he does, he doesnt like it.

But most of the time he is charming and competent. He is mostly always right, always wins and he hardly ever sees the bad side of war. Unlike Obi Wan who is tortured or punched on every single episode. He enjoys war.

And its incredible when you watch the Clone Wars series if you then watch Revenge of the Sith it feels like a poorly written fan version of the character written for the show.

At least he wasn't left....

Love to get some clone war ships. They look great and more factions make games that much more interesting.

We also got completely bitchin' Lightsaber battles. For which, I am more thankful for, than hateful of Jar Jar....

No we didn't, we got over-choreographed dances, not fights. There was no sense of aggression, of trying to kill each other.

I also feel this way. The lightsaber fights in the prequels were boring.

What makes you think Kirk was right wing?

Know what I'm more interested in? Will we see Raiders in Rebels (or even one of the new films)?

Are we expecting any of the new films to be set in OT or PT time periods? Wasn't there a rumour of a Boba Fett film?

I was talking with someone recently about how, since the EU has been scuttled that Boba Fett is technically not alive anymore after the Sarlacc. Please. Disney is all about making money, and Fett fandom is a huge cash cow, obviously Disney won't let Fett stay dead.

They would also be stupid not to make a movie about him being a total BA. The exact opposite of Jango in the AotC.

I hope he is dead, I don't want some absurd really stupid explanation as to how he survived, which I'm guessing is what it was in the comic?

No reason the film can't be set before that though.

I remember a decent computer game about Jango, it showed how he stole Slave 1. Well, OK, a mediocre computer game, but with a good sound track and some interesting bits. There was a bit where you had to take a leap of faith and jetpack your way round a blind bend past the point of no return, where you knew if it was the wrong way you'd run out of fuel and fall to your death. Was quite tense.

I believe it was first detailed in the Bounty Hunter Wars novels. It's not especially absurd for an extraordinary character.

No, not given the overall absurdity level of the EU.

Which is absurd itself.

No? I bet Jabba had fed some pretty tough sons of ******* into that thing before. How did he manage it anyway? Wookipedia won't tell me.

First time he "survived" the pit was in a marvel comic. He came out with amnesia and was working with Solo. At the end of the comic he started to get his memory back and ended up back in the Sarrlac pit.

In the Bounty Hunter books, I believe he blew up the jetpack, badly injuring, but not killing the sarlaac and himself, and escaped using his remaining weapons and a grapple line. This last part is even more fuzzy: then had his ship or somone come get him? I do remember he had a backup set of armor somewhere (original was shot).

It's probably been a decade or more.

Dengar rescued him, I think. The two of them had a partnership for a while (Fett was even Dengar's best man in his wedding to Manaroo) before he left.

I'm a little surprised at the longevity of Fett too, so I'm interested to see if he survives as well. It appears he is present at the battle of Jakku, I think, implied by a Battlefront trailer?
