Phantom/Interceptor/advanced

What do you think of

Whisper

VI

ACD

FCS

Tactician

Soontir

PTL

Autothrusters

Stealth

Colzet

Accuracy corrector

99 points so soft init bid, I realize that soontir and whisper want different things as far as initiation, but you can kinda choose which will help more, if you even fly vs other ps9s. Colzet gets to put crits on damaged ships, and does so before ps2 and 1 generics.

Soontir doesn't want init and Whisper usually does.

What about swapping Fel for Carnor?

So, all that swap does is make ps8 ships also get to outmaneuver my interceptor. All interceptors want to move 2nd.

The problem with this list is that Fel and Whisper have the same vulnerabilities (stress and vader crew). I would consider dropping Whisper for Vader. Gives you a bigger initiative bid and you still get approximately the same firepower with advanced target comp.

Base Vader: ATC & Engine = 34

Elite card is flexible: vet instincts, crack shot, juke (when its out), lone wolf, predator and outmaneouvre all give vader different ways of being dangerous.

Vader is still vulnerable to stress, so if that is indeed a problem, you can always replace Colzet with Yorr.

So, all that swap does is make ps8 ships also get to outmaneuver my interceptor. All interceptors want to move 2nd.

Who said anything about PS 8 Carnor?

I run him with VI, Thrusters and Hull and he murders aces - and his ability is absolutely evil when paired with Whimper.

I also like blade_mercurial's suggestion with Vader.

I agree, can see an issue with a Phantom and Soontir in the same list. I also don't see the benefit of Colzet with Accuracy Corrector, stop his action for any defence.

I have tried this list a few times but really need to give it more play!

"Whisper" (32)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Fire-Control System (2)
Intelligence Agent (1)
Advanced Cloaking Device (4)

Darth Vader (29)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Proton Rockets (3)
Advanced Targeting Computer (1)
Engine Upgrade (4)
TIE/x1 (0)

Tempest Squadron Pilot (21)
Accuracy Corrector (0)
TIE/x1 (0)

Total: 99

Mix and match to flavour as you have 1 point to play with but I prefer Intel agent on a Phantom

Whisper has to shoot first and Soontir wants to move second. They don't belong together. Swapping out Soontir for Carnor lets you take initiative and then give Carnor VI to move at PS10, so you can still take initiative and give both pilots the ideal conditions they want.

This is similar to another list I haven't tried yet, but looks quite strong in a few practice games:

Whisper w/ VI, ACD, FCS & Rebel Captive = 42

Vader w/ x-1 + ATC, lone wolf & engine = 36

Alpha or Avenger w/ Autos = 20 or 22

98 or 100

So far, I've been leaning towards the avenger. I don't really need a PS1 ship---I don't care about blocking other PS1/2 so the avenger suits me as a blocker (and gets to pwn turrets at PS3). With 100 though, Soontir will always move last against me. With captive on Whisper (who shoots first), I don't really care. Any of my ships can potentially block Fel and allow a kill shot, and Fel will struggle to take out Whisper thanks to the captive. Vader & Whisper deal tons of damage too, so its rather an appealing list...

It also happens to be an interceptor, advanced & phantom build...

I've always thought that Soontir and Whisper work well together because of their conflicting desires on initiative. It's a way to not spend on an initiative bid and get at least half of what you want even when your opponent gets to choose initiative. Sure, it's not as good as winning the initiative bid, but that's never guaranteed anyway.

However, I agree that them both being vulnerable to stress and Vader crew means it's a list with some unpleasantly hard counters.

I feel like the only interceptor that likes to Shoot first is Turr Phenirr, He might work well in a Whisper List. Run him with VI and At. keep em cheap and efficient.

For a while now I've been playing a triple 9 list

Whisper - VI, ACD

Soontir - PTL, AT

Vader - X1, ATC, TIE Mk2

and it has been pretty brutal.

Those people saying Soontir and Whisper don't belong together are missing the point. either one of them is crazy good with the right initiative, and no matter what, one of them is going to have the right initiative. There is no need for an initiative bid because if your opponent wins the bid you've put him in an impossible choice.

I would like this list, except your nines are so....naked :P

Triple 9 is undeniably good, because you feel like you've got a fighting chance, even if you happen to lose one early. But no engine on Vader? I just....couldn't do it.

I know. I soooo wish for another 10-12 points. Put EU on vader, stealth on soontir and something on whisper to even out the offense, but 100 points is just barely enough for the auto-includes.

I've also been flying a phantom/interceptor/advanced list lately (currently 6-0 with it) but mine is is all 8s:

Echo with VI, ACD, SJ and RS

Zertik Strom with TIE/x1, SJ and VI

Carnor Jax with PtL and AT

Strom is good at taking the stress from Rebel Captive and causing headaches with his ability, which combined with SJ and Jax makes for very unhappy opponents when everything comes into play simultaneously. Obviously PS9+ enemies are an issue but I've found that as long as you can position Echo in such a way that she can't get shot at without your opponent k-turning, sensor jammer will protect you. Sticking Carnor right where you expect enemy aces to end up is also really handy at catching them without any defensive actions (you have to put Echo behind him back to cover his flank). Keffisch's idea on having a PS10 Carnor is also a solution, but I dislike interceptors that can't turtle up or boost+BR, particularly on those first turns that require you to get into close range and out of arc with Carnor. I'd also feel silly with three ships with VI =P.

I like Whisper and Soontir together.

The list you are suggesting, OP, is one that I would certainly play. I might even consider Rebel Captive too.

When Wave 8 comes out, Agent Kallus will be great, letting your Whisper get a free focus against the (usually) single PS9+ ship that the enemy fields, meaning you can take evade + mini focus so you live a bit longer with only 2 agility.

Also, Soontir is really only the weakest to R3A2 and Tactician, IF he gets shot at, AND isn't in a position to run away next round with a 4fwd out of there.

Darth Vader crew is mean, sure, but not the worst. It's likely that every single pt of damage they put on Soontir comes from Vader crew. So if Whisper, Colzet, and Soontir all focus fire that ship, you might finish it off with only losing 1 ace.

How about a list based around echo, turr phennir, and maarek stele? About to play in my first tournament shortly and I was wondering if they would be a viable option for a Tie Advanced, Intercepter, Phantom list?
