I don't know why but I just thought it would be kinda cool to play is one. Though I have to think about what his characteristics would be...any thoughts?
Is it alright to play as tusken raider?

My gut feeling is that 3 Cunning is probably more appropriate than 3 Brawn, but otherwise I think you are right on.

Awesome! thanks for your help guys!...now I just need to think of a name for him
Just remember that Tusken Raiders are incredibly* xenophobic. They aren't going to be like 'well, think I'll go out and see the sights' casually. There has to be a pretty considerable reason for them to leave Tatooine. Other than that (and your GM approving), they are an intelligent race without any game breaking powers, so it should be fine.
Do you have a dog? Get it to growl at something and you have a name. Or maybe record some donkey noises.
*Understatement.
Also don't forget the whole "It is a mortal sin to show one's skin" thing. That's almost as big a cultural thing as the xenophobia.
There are some pretty good insights into the tuskan culture in the novel Kenobi. It's not all that horrible to read either.
Alright thanks for all of your help guys
can't wait to make a tusken PC
My big concern would be the burden on the GM. If a Tusken Raider strolls into a cantina, even with a party of spacers, most people will shoot the sand person first and ask questions later. As a GM of nine years, I would ban a Tusken in a heartbeat due to the difficulties this will raise at the table...
An alternative that I would suggest would be to make someone raised by Tuskens. If I recall correctly, Tahiri Veila and what's-his-name that became Darth Krayt (Sharad Hett?) were both humans raised by Tusken raiders. It's a way to get the culture and savage nature without the same game-wrecking social stigma.
If you wear the mask, people shoot first and ask questions later. If you only have the gaffi stick, they assume you killed a Tusken and took it as a trophy. The latter misunderstanding leads to conflict as well, but doesn't force conflict, like being an actual Tusken Raider.
Hmmm...

well that does make sense...alright thanks for the tip ![]()
Any time! You could potentially keep the mask, and just don it when you're going into battle like Batman putting on his mask. The gravely-voiced vigilante type.

Kymrel is correct, if you are going to make a Tuskin you should read Kenobi, it has a lot of interesting info on them. I also thought it was okay.
Edited by FuriousGregJust another thought, though, how many people in the galaxy are familiar with one species found on one planet, that never leave said planet*? Tatooine might mean trouble, but most of the galaxy won't bat an eyelash. The ones that will notice a Tusken away from Tatooine will either file it away as a curiosity but not the strangest they've ever seen, or doubt what they're seeing enough to be susceptible to a Deception or Charm check, or rationalize it away as a impersonator.
*I'm under the general mentality that the galaxy is a big place, so not every person is going to know what a Tusken Raider is, let alone recognize one on sight.
Also keep in mind that anti-Tusken sentiment will only be a big problem on, like, Tatooine, or maybe the Arkanis system more generally. I doubt they'll raise an eyebrow on Nar Shaddaa.
EDIT: Annnnd Blackbird beat me to the punch. :|

Haha don't worry I won't go all sci-fi batman

The second quote pretty much fixes the problem of the first. You aren't going to see the Tusken without clothing unless something really bad happens. Simply change your head-to-toe "Tusken" outfit. If someone, somehow, sees under your clothing, how many actually know what a Tusken looks like anyway?
In fact, I think your PC Tuskan was spotted in the Mos Eisley cantina when you were booking passage for your first trip off-world?:

If I remember correctly, the Edge of the Empire book even makes the point that there are millions of species in the Galaxy, and that it is common for a spacer to not be able to identify something like a third of the sentients they see in any given spaceport. When you take into account that Tatooine is a backwater world that most of the galaxy ignores, it's not outside the realm of possibility that a Tusken Raider will pass without comment.

The flip side of that? What happens the first time a xenophobic Tusken steps off the transport into the spaceport concourse and sees more aliens in one spot than they ever thought possible. Violent reaction? Catatonic reaction? Simply just freak out? The potential in that one scene is HUGE.
Edited by DesslokHere's a fun if outrageous theory. We are given Tusken are xenophobic, can't expose their skin, we don't have any idea what they look like, and are known for multiple spikes of unknown purpose atop their heads (neglecting anything that EU may say about Tusken). Perhaps as they reach adulthood, Amish-style they are allowed a multi-month pilgrimage to visit the outside Galaxy. Most come back. A few rare ones don't. Some Tusken on these trips cover their bodies in paint of different styles to get over their phobia of exposing their skin....

Can you play a Tusken Raider? Yes of course! Others have provided many Obligation ideas. But why is the character off Tatooine? I like the Pilgrimage idea, but Exile would work too. Your exiled for whatever reason, and hanging around Tatooine is a death sentence...

This - in a culture like that, exile is that same thing as death... plus, I like the idea of a character going "F that... I'm going to live!" Once they get off planet, and start meeting beings of other races and cultures, they figure out that things ain't so terrible in the big bad world after all. Who knows... they might even start working on the resources needed to go back and kick some righteous ass on whoever got them kicked out in the first place. With their friends....
I'd try a Human Marauder with a gaffi stick.
Anyone think some sort of bonus when utilizing slughtrowers/melee weapons would be appropriate?
