Here's WHY Squadrons reprsent three fighters (Just for Fun!)

By AllWingsStandyingBy, in Star Wars: Armada

You can field 17 squadrons of ties max if they were 3 fighters each that would be less than a single ISD can carry. And you can field 2 ISDs considering that they would be able to field only 1/3 of what they should and command 12 ties each...

It makes no sense.

And what about most of the game makes sense?

That was an exceedingly well thought out argument, delivered in a friendly, non-confrontational manner.

Well done sir.

I eagerly await the almost inevitable Nerd Rage your topic will attract, with fingers steepled and a malevolent grin I shall watch my screen expectantly. :)

Excellent!

Just sorta' catching up on Rebels, but wasn't Phoenix squadron 6 A-wings in an engagement, while Vader was just 1? Not that I see a problem with any answer, except for those that presupposes there is only one answer to be had :P.

A 'squadron' might just be one ΓΌber-hero (if someone put a single fighter on a stand for a unique hero, I wouldn't complain*),and it migh tbe any number of other combinations. It's just, like, numbers... man. And I'm more about, like, the biiiig picture.

Then again, Lando said, "Watch out. Squad at point o'-six" in Return of the Jedi, so... is that where the X-wing 'Squad' name come from rather than some homogenous 'squadron'? Thus, Squad is an artificial construct that might incorporate multiple frames into the same unit while Squadrons do not? It's just a wayward thought, I don't have any answer.

*to preempt any argument that FFG's definition of 'Squadron being, 'a plastic squadron base, plastic fighters [plural], a punchboard disc, a punchboard activation slider, and a squadron card. The disk, fighters, and squadron card must all correspond to the same squadron type.' If that's the case, we have to concede two things: that means no two TIE Ln and Vader's X1 which looks good and you're a nerfherder for objecting! And, Rogues and Villains won't count as Squadrons because they're single ships. No, I don't think there's a real argument here, just sort of thinking aloud.

And yes I'm latching onto this like a rabid bulldog because my Wave 2 stuff hasn't shipped yet! What of it? :P
