Maps?

By LolKnight, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hey um sorry for asking stupid questions again but is there a way for me to print maps or do I have to make them myself?

There are a number of map resources on line. Star Wars and sci-fi maps can be more difficult to find than fantasy maps (although don't discount fantasy maps as some are very to use in SW). RPGmapshare.com and the dunjinni forums are my two "go to" sites. Google image search will also turn up a lot of options that you might not otherwise find (like deckplans from someone's pinterest page).

Although it is certainly easier to print existing maps, don't shy away from making them yourself when needed. Maptool is a free program from RPTools.net that is intended as a VTT but works just fine as a basic map maker. For that matter, you can use Maptool to put up a mat on a monitor or TV and not worry about printing it out.

You can also go with a simpler route like a chessex mat or dry erase board and markers.

Alright thank you for the advice :)

Maps of Mastery has some pretty cool PDFs for sale:

This guy's maps have made it into some top notch publications.

I've also found rpgnow.com pretty useful:

My only problem with detailed maps is they are by definition restrictive. A lot of these maps assume a very low round interval and movement range. Given the dynamic nature of most Star Wars encounters, and EotE's somewhat longer turn intervals, it doesn't take much movement to end up off the map, and keeping the players contained kind of violates the spirit IMHO. So while I end up buying these things, they're more for flavour than specific PC and NPC placement.

What seems to work better for me is to just mock up a rough diagram at large scale (I use Autodesk Graphic...formerly iDraw...on the Mac) and then scour Google Images for pictures of street level scenes, spaceports, etc.
