2 Hawks and a Y

By Alphastealer, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I am thinking of the viability of the following Scum list.

My local meta includes Imperial Aces, Multi A Wings, Rebel swarm, TLT spam, 1-2 Fat rebels, Tie Swarm and Brobots.

1 x HWK - Palob - Opportunist - Blaster Turret - Recon Specialist - Title - Hull upgrade (37)

1x HWK - Torkil - TLT - K4 Security Droid- Inertial Dampeners (29)

1x Y Wing - Kavil - Opportunist - Blaster Turret - R4 Agromech (34)

The idea is to pick a single target per round. Drop their level to 0 then wail on them with 2-3 ships. Assuming Palob can strip a token, then he and Kavil can get 4 and 5 dice each.

Range is a bit short but arc dodging is no issue.

Opportunist on Palob is fun. However, it turns him into Public Enemy #1 and your opponent WILL kill him ASAP. The hull upgrade won't save him neither. Your only hope of course is to maximize your damage before Palob dies, because once he's gone, its unlikely Kavil will get to trigger opportunist again...

Oh and watch out for Carnor Jax. He basically hard-counters your entire list if he gets into range 1, handing your opponent an easy victory. You have to stop Carnor from hitting Range 1 of your turrets at all costs.

So its a bit gimmicky and has obvious weaknesses (stress dealers, like the ever popular R3-A2 will also completely neuter Kavil for example), but it can work if you are careful how you fly...

As an alternative to Opportunist, you may want to consider Predator. It has obvious synergies with Torkhil's ability and is less situational compared to Opportunist.

I built a list with these three pilots as a counter to the Fel+Palp+? lists we've been seeing lately. It needs a lot of careful setup and flying in order to succeed.

I start by creating a wall of asteroids down one side of the board then set up all my ships in a tight triangle with Kavil in the back set up with an ion cannot turret and some bombs. I move slowly down the wall firing TLT's through it at ships on the other side. Anything that breaks through gets ion'ed and bombed.

In the end, however, it's only entertaining and not at all competitive - even at a casual level. Two TLT'd HWK's just don't have the firepower to consistently win.
