also rebels has a lot of new pilots ... phonex squad etc
New canon, new ships. What are the possibilities?
Unfortunately, like most movie trailers, we've already seen the best parts of the movie and we shouldn't be expecting any more exciting or revealing scenes!
I'm surprised we haven't seen any other fighters in the clips and trailers. Really hoping they included something genuinely new once we see the full film.
I have a bit of a worry that since we have X-wing 2.0 and Tie Fighter 2.0, we will soon see B-wing 2.0, A-wing 2.0, Tie Interceptor 2.0....
But I really, REALLY hope not for the sake of X-wing. The new X-wing and Tie/fo is fine because they are THEE ships. But if they went ahead and just did the same with the other movie ships, I'd be... Less than pleased...
FORCE AWAKENS SPOILERS
Well, there is a B-Wing 2.0. We only know of it from a single pic of a LEGO set in a landed pose. It could very well look much different from the B-Wing when flying.

Don't worry, I'm fully aware of the B-toothbrush/cell phone. Praying the lego set doesn't do it justice.
The rebels Blade wing heavily suggests some of those features.
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Scurrg_H-6_prototype_bomber- that's an old EU ship that was recently spotted in a trailer for the Rebels tv show, so it could be showing up as a Scum ship in a future wave.
The ship in Rebels is not a Scurrg; that's just a weird rumor that got spread because people wanted it too badly to actually look at the shape of the ship.

In those peoples defense, anything resembling an EU ship making it into the new canon is worth getting excited over for those who enjoyed those ships.
Most of the GAR stuff doesn't make an appearance after the "Tarkin" & "Lords of the Sith" novels (5 years after the Revenge of the Sith) except as salvage or wreckage. By "Lost Stars" and "A New Dawn" 3 years later in the timeline the TIE/ln and TIE/sa have already appeared to completely replace the old ARC, V-wings, Etas, V19s etc. By "Rebels" anothe 6 years after, they have become collectables and memorialbilia.
Yes I understand that but the point I was trying to make was that they were still GALACTIC EMPIRE fighters while the TIE models were getting designed. Also Tarkin said in his novel about being disappointed with how the TIE's are actually quite expendable while the V-Wings were hardy fighters. So even the galaxies most hated military commander was not exactly a big fan of everyones favorite swarm ship.
For something like 15 years the Galactic Government went from having only a token defense force to creating an entire army from scratch and then replacing war time equipment with stuff more suited for patrol and security. When the clone wars start the starfighters available are Delta-7 and v-19 torrent, and not in the quantities that were needed for multiple theaters and campaigns. BTL-Bs became available within the first year of the war and were then joined by and supplanted by more numerous ARC-170s.
Eventually Eta-2s appeared after different versions of otherJedinfighters were made, none of them widespread compared to the clones' ships. Z-95 models made specifically for clones were introduced about midway through the war and filled a similar role as the V-19 but may have been a more limited run before the V-wing was introduced in presumedly great numbers. The ARC-170 and V-wing seemed to have formed the bulk of the newly formed Imperial starfighter forces along with a handful of Eta-2s. Other clone wars ships may have been flown by the empire, especially in outlying regions.
We already know the Y-wings and Z-95s were used by rebels later, though these ships may not have been the same as the ones from the clone wars. V-wings were also used by criminal forces when they were replaced by TIE series craft. ARC-170s were also used by rebels in some capacity.
The clone wars forces were varied and probably required very different maintainence needs, although the use of astromechs in most of the later starfighters might indicate a move to consolidate designs. The TIE series is modular with different ships sharing commonality in systems and parts, and probably represents a conscious effort to reduce the need to maintain a varied force. TIEs were also manufactured in the millions if not tens or hundreds of millions and would have quickly masses numbers that dwarfed all clone wars fighters combined. With the actual ships aging and supply parts being more readily available for TIEs the older ships were phased out much sooner than their likely longer functional life.

Yea... if you think you've seen most of a 2 hour long movie in probably a 15 minute total amount of footage with 10 minutes of dialogue, you are thinking of a Comedy.

Exactly why I lost it.

Actually I think he's talking about the Fant4stic Four movie ![]()
I still have a hard time remembering or acknowledging Fant4stic Four happened. Even from the trailers you could tell it'd suck more than a Dyson.
Maybe they can go with the old ATL-4 and the INT-4 from the Kenner toys line. Size comparison wise, they could proably fit two-in-one bubble pack. ![]()

The GAR stuff was quickly gotten rid of for a number of reasons, GrimmyV has already pointed out a few.
Logisically wise, it made sense to have a much lower inventory count for the Empire - if you take canon rather than EU as a source, the Imperial Navy fielded little other than various TIES as fighters / bombers and a few types of shuttles - other paramilitary branches of the Empire such as the Imperial Customs, ISB, IDMR and sector defense fleets probably used other craft.
Politically, the New Order promoted Sienar Fleet Systems as their premiere starfighter manufacturer after nationalizing RSS. There was a stigma attached to the old symbols of the Old Republic, which is probably why many of the starships were discarded so quickly for new designs. They gave contracts for large capitals and groundcraft to Kuat Drive Yards (which owned the subsidiaries Kuat Systems Engineering and Rothana Heavy Engineering, 2 other large Clone Wars era sub contractors).
This snubbed suppliers who used to supply the GAR now had the capablity to manufacture military grade starships, but no one to sell their ships to. Many turned to making stuff for smaller parties (the Hutts, corp security, local defense, etc). These include:
- Slayn & Korpil, who produced the V-19s, later manufactured the B-Wings for the Rebels.
- Incom, who co-designed the ARC-170 and Z-95 which continued to see use as in the Galactic Civil War era, later manufactured the X-Wings for the Rebels.
- Koensayr, whose Y-Wings continued to see use as in the Galactic Civil War era.
- Subpro, who co-designed the ARC-170 and Z-95 which continued to see use as in the Galactic Civil War era, didn't do too well in the old EU canon, not sure what the new Disney canon has in store for them.
- Kuat Systems Engineering, who produced the Delta-7s, Eta-2s & Alpha-3s, struggled for its existance as a legitimate subsidary of KDY without military contracts and eventually made the A-Wing for the Rebels.
It wouldn't be terribly surprising however of these companies licensed the right to manufacture their GAR older ship designs to local shipyards to manufacture for local conditions, physiology, tastes etc (similar to the relation between Nubian Design and Theed Engineering).

The ATL not as much, I didn't buy any of the droids toys. Sorry.
ISP as the gunboat's little brother!

Lost Stars box set could include the 2 main charters
Rebel pilot : Thane Kyrell - Corona Squadron
TIE Pilot :Ciena Ree
Having just finished this book, I want this. I want this so bad. There are easily enough interesting pilots.
Now I know how gunboat people must feel.

I would love to see the ATL interceptor (defender) in x-wing. Give it a 1 or zero koigran turn.

Yeah I remember the Kenner toy ATL Interceptor --aka the New Republic Defender from WEST End Games. YTiny little fighter that was about the size of an Awing but crammed a 2nd person in it.
It would totally have a couple White K-turns, maybe an S-loop too, but 2 firepower and no missiles or torps. Though a passenger would make sense.

No he doesn't. Aftermath was terrible. Lost Stars was an average book, but >>>>>> Aftermath.
There are a few characters which were okay and would be interesting cards, but if I had to pick between them, I'd much rather have Lost Stars characters.
I really enjoyed Aftermath. I mean, not every novel can have such fine writing and names like Luuke. [rolls eyes]
Honestly, the character of Norra Wexley, I found to be very well thought out. Specifically the trying to repair a broken relationship - not a spoiler, read the dust jacket.
I've found many if the new canon characters seem more fleshed out and real than some of the old.
I loved a lot of the old fiction, but I don't dismiss the new fiction because I enjoyed the old.
there are so many possible crew, pilot and even astromech cards in lost stars. that I would start there.... Aftermath is part 1 of a trilogy so there will be a lot more there to in the next year or so (future waves)
But Lost starts alone could proved 2 or 3 waves of rebel pilots inc the MOA, or bought out as a box set like an aces pack with lots and lots in it
Tbh there have been many book, comics, and other media which have been terribad both in the disney canon and the old EU. I just try to follow the storylines.

Yeah, thus far it's proved to be about the same mixed bag. We'll see if the promised consistency is a thing (and that authors retconning each others work that they don't like doesn't happen... talking to you Zahn, Stackpole, others...)
