New canon, new ships. What are the possibilities?

By Kdubb, in X-Wing

Tbh there have been many book, comics, and other media which have been terribad both in the disney canon and the old EU. I just try to follow the storylines.

The Disney canon hasn't been around long enough to "have been many book, comics, and other media". Unlike the "Old EU" they has been around for decades and truly does "have been many book, comics, and other media" .

I just want a skipray blastboat

Yeah, thus far it's proved to be about the same mixed bag. We'll see if the promised consistency is a thing (and that authors retconning each others work that they don't like doesn't happen... talking to you Zahn, Stackpole, others...)

So far "A New dawn" seems to be the first real example of how the new Canon as it features characters from "Rebels" and "Aftermath".

Ciena Ree as shuttel pilot .... if you have "Emperor Palpatine" on the shuttel you may roll one extra green dice

Ciena Ree as TIE Pilot .... If you have taken 1 damage you may re roll one green dice, if Thane Kyrell can attack another ship other then you he must do so.

Thane Kyrell as X - wing pilot if you are within range 1 of an obstacle token (asteroid etc) roll one extra green dice, if Ciena Ree can attack another ship other then you she must do so.

@Luuke

Yeah, that part wasn't stellar. But we did have Thrawn who was awesome! Except that he had fuzzy worm pets that 'didn't exist in the force'. Um, ok.

Clones! Except the main clone was Joruus the fake Jedi master that looked like a too buff Obi wan.

Leia being called Lady Vader! Except she was forced into hiding while pregnant instead of being surrounded by gobs of security.

Creepy cool Nogri. Not so cool when we have a wookiee with a 'speech impediment' that allows her to speak Basic. Just creepy.

Mara Jade as total Mary Sue. Ugh. The fact that she basically became canon as a background character in ROTJ was too much. And her death wish for Luke was sated by killing his clone. Sure, whatever.

There were many good things about the Thrawn Trilogy, the best of which is the rekindling of interest in Star Wars in the early 90s. But there was a lot of just plain bad ideas snuck in there. I guess not any worse than your average prequel movie, though.

Thrawn was an interesting character in the Thrawn trilogy but he later became too overpowered to the point where pretty much anytime the Imperial military did something competent in the pre-Endor GCW he was involved. (Highlights include planning the strategy behind Death Squadron's early campaigns, and deducing that the rebel convoy destroyed at Derra IV would be in the Derra system, which told the Empire the rough region where Echo Base was located and the climate of the world it was on or the area it was in.)

In the Return of the Jedi radio drama, C-3PO speaks with Arica who latter turns out to be Mara Jade..... The radio play isn't canon so her appearance isn't canon.

There was so much crap in the old EU I'm kind of glad Disney rebooted it e.g. no Voort saBinring

I stopped reading the old EU books years ago because it was just getting dumb. I hope the people in-charge of maintaining the continuity do a good job. Some stupid stuff will slip in after all its sci fi but stopping the authors from contradicting each other and building a stable new EU around the movies can only be a good thing for x-wing players

total Mary Sue.

Is the great problem of SW franchise in total.

No :)

Shara Bey in an A-wing, as well as Norra Wexley in a Y-wing

Pops and Tyree still aren't flying Y-wings (with EPT!).

John D in an x-wing, along with Zev Senesca.

Where are my real canon pilots?!

so while we are almost on the topic..... what if Rey's charter (in the force awaken) is simply mispronounced and should be Ree (only referd to by her surname, a common thing in the SW universe)

Could she be the daughter of Ciena Ree and Thane Kyrell. But then again Thane did have a thing for the Princess so if they had a kid, while Ciena was imprisoned

Ohhhh the possibility.

I agree with you GV, they should really do something like a Yavin battle box, adding all the pilots from the battlr of Yavin in it, its time the Rebel Y's got some new pilots

Some people forget how long some fighter designs have remained in service IRL and think that most of the Clone Wars era fighter inventory is too outdated to still be in use during the OT or even early empire era.

The biggest problem I see (and I have had thoughts about how to solve it), is making the V-Wing into something that is more expensive than the TIE Fighter, but also less good- without making it less efficient than the TIE Fighter.

You know? Good luck with _that_ challenge!

Alpha-3 Nimbus class V-wing starfighter

Att 2

Agility 3

Hull 3

Shield 1

Focus, evade, BR

New upgrade slot, Military Astromech

2 turns white and 2 banks and straight green

3 turns and banks white, 3 straight green

4 and 5 white straights

PS 3 16 pts

PS 6 20 pts (awesome skill I can't think of right now)

PS 8 23 pts (Ditto)

Military Astromechs:

1 pt

2pt gives evade token when you BR

3pt add one attack die when at range 2-3 and out of targets firing arc.

(Can't think of anything right now, turkey is making me fatter and dumber as I type this)

Hmmm. Still a work in process. Is it better, worse or same as TIEs?

Look to the E-wing for inspiration! I think FFG handled the better but just not worth the improvement quite well. Pack it with 1 kickass pilot and 2 copies of a must have meta changer (ala StarViper)! :P

As the new canon has prominently focused on the rebellion. And not to many new ship types have been mentioned, but both empire and rebellion have had a lot of name dropping that could lead to old ships being re-released with new pilots, paint jobs, fixes, titles etc

They are afraid to make it, because it's PT, and the ships there are too awesome and good-looking.

Would totally buy whole Clone Wars waves, though. Epicness.
