New canon, new ships. What are the possibilities?

By Kdubb, in X-Wing

While sources point to FFG continuing to use the extended universe to search for ships to include in the game, it's very likely they will look to the new releases under Disney as there focus for possibilities in future releases.

Now, we know we will get some ships from the new movies. But what other new ships are out there from other sources? Books, comics, games, tv shows? I've heard a large outcry of "Special Forces Tie is coming for sure!", but I haven't heard any mention of possible ships from materials outside of the trailers or leaked movie ship art/design.

So please, feed them to me! I want to know every possibility!

Wait until December you should.

Be revealed it all will.

If some small ship is already in Armada, it will get appearance in X-wing.

H-6 is, so it will fill the True merc bomber niche

I'm not up to date on all of the comics but so far a lot more EU capital ship classes have shown up in the novels then fighter classes, though there is at least one new YT class that wasn't in the EU but showed up in a canon short story and several EU transport size ships have become canon. And the Interceptor class Frigate is small enough that it might show up in X-Wing since it is actually smaller then a CR90 unless the modification process to convert an Action VI class Bulk Freighter into an Interceptor class Frigate included making it larger.

The CloakShape got namedropped in Heir to the Jedi, which got me pretty excited, as a CloakShape fan from way back. :D

I've been bored and keeping track of the older ships from the prequels and EU that have been used in comics / novels / other media after Disney began their new canon during the post Clone War era. Gunboat? Gunboat canon? Gunboat cannon canon?

Gunboat?

Gun...boat....

(Still holding out hope we will see a derelict gunboat in TFA somewhere...)

will attempt to avoid to many "SPOILERS"

there are several new books that are canon, they include several pilots e.g.

Lost Stars box set could include the 2 main charters

Rebel pilot : Thane Kyrell - Corona Squadron

TIE Pilot :Ciena Ree

plus there are lots of others mentioned as crew and pilots

Aftermath : Has several characters that end up teaming up to fly away together at the end so there you have a ship with crew and pilots.

I want the Gunboat to make lists of 3 or 4 of these ships

DerpBoats incoming!
BRACE FOR IMPACT!

V-Wings are heavily used in Lords of the Sith and Tarkin, would love to ser them makr an appearance. I wish vader was not the only one to fly the Eta Actis Interceptor cause it would be another awesome little interceptor for the Empire.

Yes I know everyone argues about them both plus the Arc-170 that is mentioned in Tarkin, but think of it this way, they are Clone Wars era but are also Early Empire leading up too the GCW.

People also forget that the Y-Wing and Z-95's are also technically Clone Wars era so why are we complaining about these three options?

Eta-2 can have 'Dark Jedi Ace' as the other ace and then two generic sounding pilots like 'Emperor's Hand' or 'special agent' or something. There's ways to work that ship into the rotation, especially since it's the most TIE looking nonTIE out there.

Some people forget how long some fighter designs have remained in service IRL and think that most of the Clone Wars era fighter inventory is too outdated to still be in use during the OT or even early empire era.

I've had this argument before... Basically it boils down to prequel era ships have the stigma of being associated with the prequel trilogy.

Imperial ARCS appeared in the comics and books, and I liked the look personally, others do not.

Never say never.

Did someone say Vader in an Interceptor? That would be so deadly...

Most of the GAR stuff doesn't make an appearance after the "Tarkin" & "Lords of the Sith" novels (5 years after the Revenge of the Sith) except as salvage or wreckage. By "Lost Stars" and "A New Dawn" 3 years later in the timeline the TIE/ln and TIE/sa have already appeared to completely replace the old ARC, V-wings, Etas, V19s etc. By "Rebels" anothe 6 years after, they have become collectables and memorialbilia.

I'm surprised we haven't seen any other fighters in the clips and trailers. Really hoping they included something genuinely new once we see the full film.

I have a bit of a worry that since we have X-wing 2.0 and Tie Fighter 2.0, we will soon see B-wing 2.0, A-wing 2.0, Tie Interceptor 2.0....

But I really, REALLY hope not for the sake of X-wing. The new X-wing and Tie/fo is fine because they are THEE ships. But if they went ahead and just did the same with the other movie ships, I'd be... Less than pleased...

Unfortunately, like most movie trailers, we've already seen the best parts of the movie and we shouldn't be expecting any more exciting or revealing scenes! Letting those expectations get too lofty will only lead to disappointment when you actually see the movie!

I'm pretty sure other Star Wars fans would be aghast at our wishes of a movie that makes our obscure game better, lol.

Given the current infatuation with original Ralph McQuarrie designs in the new canon (Rebels and the T70 in TFA), I would not be surprised if more of his unused concepts do get made.

Yes I understand that but the point I was trying to make was that they were still GALACTIC EMPIRE fighters while the TIE models were getting designed. Also Tarkin said in his novel about being disappointed with how the TIE's are actually quite expendable while the V-Wings were hardy fighters. So even the galaxies most hated military commander was not exactly a big fan of everyones favorite swarm ship.

I think the things I want to see much more thus far are some of the characters from the books/comics as Pilots/Crew. It would be great if they were in their appropriate ships =)

To name a few in order of importance:

Shara Bey

Thane Kyrell

Ciena Ree

Sinjir Velas

Rae Sloane

Jas Emari

Nora Wexley

Valco Pandion

And one with spoiler tags =)

Kes Dameron

The G wing is my bet for one of the ships in wave 9.
