Crazy good game Biggs. Vassal messed me up a bit at times, but wow that was an amazing game.

Results?

Bitharne defeats Doobleg with an MOV of 167 (can't remember the exact figures).

Bitharne was the first player, and the mission was Superior Positions.

Over 300 of Bitharne's points came from the mission objective... needless to say, my arse is pretty raw. :P

I think we found I miscounted 1 objective token bringing the MOV to 152, still an 8-2.

I had ~440 points to doobleg's ~288: he saved a vlog IIRC if we need to double check any figures.

It was a very fun, interesting, cordial, and educational game. I learned, again, how much I dislike first player; though I was thrilled to see doobleg playing Superior Positions as his blue objective. The set-up penalty for player 1 is painful; however, after the game I realized that I could very easily have overcome that disadvantage if I had deployed differently: lesson learned.

We pretty much deployed like civil-war days in a line across from each other. Since I had had to deploy my entire fleet, I didn't know this would be the case, but it surely favored my opponent much more than me: 3 AFMKII's with Ackbar and gunnery teams shouldn't be flown directly at, just sayin.

I had 10 squadrons to his zero which single-handedly won me the game through objective points. I deployed my Raider and Demolisher on either side of my VSD flagship all ships at a rather low speed: 2, 1, and 1 respectively. Hindsight being what it is I should of loaded up my one flank and drove my ships much faster...however the slow-play ensured my Raider didn't die (or even shoot) which is the only reason I didn't lose.

I'm still trying to figure out if I should slow-play or blitz against red-dice-gunlines or not. I think both are viable, however I played the perfectly wrong way and trundled moderatly forward with a 1 then a 2 at full-forward deployment with my victory. This lead to it taking 3-4 5+ dice broadsides to it's single shot. If I had deployed further back and kept m yspeed 1 I might have done similar damage with my squadrons and not lost my flagship. Alternatively if I had burned harder I might have gotten at least 2 shots off into his fleet, maybe burning another AF down.

I was quite nervous seeing the full might of an ackbar list, that's for **** sure, but it's nice to have played it. The more I play the more I see the dangerousness of certain lists coming with massive weeknesses too...which is utterly unavoidable at 400 pts. The only way to pull off such a deadly gunline is to take no squadrons. If doobleg hadn't have used SupPos as his blue, I def couldn't have won using my squadrons like that...then again I'd have had full deployment advantage over him with 6 deployments before my last 2 ships would have to hit the table.

Good game bud. Good luck in your next one!

JRockNZ vs Reath.

Advanced Gunnery

JRock killed:

-Vic 1 (80 x 2 for Obj = 160)

-ISD1 (143)

-3 Tie Advanced (36)

Total = 339

Reath Killed:

-Glad 1 (79 x 2 for Obj ship = 158)

-Raider 1 (53)

-2 Agressor fighters (32)

Total = 243

MoV=96 7/3 Win to JROCKNZ.

A very close game. Came down to a turn 6 collision that resulted in Reaths Vic 1 Objective ship dying.

In depth analysis to follow once JROCKNZ and I have some time, Vlog was captured and will be uploaded separately.

A hell of a good game which provided some interesting insights into Wave 2.

So: 220 - 336 = 116 MOV, I think that might be 8-2?

Nope, 7-3 still.

Still important to note, as it's a good objective to put on your small ship and their large ship to really boost your points in a trade.

5 and 5 = 0-25
6 and 4 = 26-65
7 and 3 = 66-120
8 and 2 = 121-200
9 and 1 = 201-295
10 and 0 = 296+

Some initial commentary, after a few games.

The Imperials are winning. 4-3 to 3-4. Come on guys.

There are two extreme admirals: Admiral Ozzel and Mon Mothma, who own the only 10-0 and 0-10 games so far. So far the lowest MOV is a 7-3 victory. Admiral Motti is 2-1, Dodonna and Vader are 1-0, Screed and Garm are 1-1, General Rieekan and Grand Moff Token Tarkin is 0-1 and Ackbar has only played 1 game so far, which he lost. (Weren't there supposed to be 7 Ackbars in the tournament? Get with it guys!) Vader has yet to put in an appearance.

Squadron distribution, I've broken it down into 5 categories (All Squads/Super Heavy Squads, 130+ or 10+ squads, Heavy Squads, 100+ or 8+ (Counting Reath28's 97/8 as heavy), Medium Squads 50+, Low Squads, and no ships).

So far:

            W L
All Squad 2
Squad Heavy 1 3
Squad Med 1 2
Squad Light 4 2
All Ship 1

It seems that there isn't that there isn't a huge pattern being exposed with ships vs squads. 5 ship fleets are 1-2, 4 ships are 1-2, 3 ship fleets are 6-4, and we haven't seen any 2 ship fleets play. Specific numbers of squads are all over the board: 0, 6 and 8 squads have lost all of their matches (5 total), 3 squads is 1-4, People with squads numbering 2, 4, 5, 7, 10 have won all their matches. (Generally 1/each). So take that as the completely random mixture that it is.

Hi all,

Great game with Reath28. Not sure how long other peoples games are taking but this was a 4hr marathon.

"Coming out of hyperspace Admiral. They knew we were coming!!"

We had equal points so rolled for initiative. Reath won and elected to go first. With fighter superiority Reath had a lot more deployments to make which made me a bit worried i'd be out of position.

Initial deployment looked like this: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BwtueTxAoSbed0ZDSjlJN1NHZWc

Reath had placed first on far right and worked left. I placed centrally and continued to place left. Clearly indicating my intention to work around behind his fleet. Objective ships marked in the picture.

  • JRock - demolisher (far left)
  • Reath - VSD (far right)

Turn 1:

Admiral Motti assessed the situation. Scopes showed an ISD-I, two old model VSD-1's, and multiple smaller craft. "Don't fear Lieutenant, we will show these traitors that their antiquated hardware is no match for our latest star ships. Communications, relay to Demolisher and Impetuous to move to intercept, and Instigator to fall in and follow us."

Lots of positioning going on this round to see who could into position to make the most of their gunnery teams.

Turn 2:

Standing on the bridge of the Relentless was a favourite place for Admiral Motti. He took pride in being control of one of the finest pieces of Imperial hardware currently available and his officers diligently carrying out his orders. His opponent had turned to attempt to cut him off as expected, right towards the asteroid field. Floating debris indicated that these asteroids had claimed ships before. Floating space rocks don't scare me. Not even that hocus pocus force rubbish scared Motti.

Even more positioning going on. End of turn two and not even a shot fired yet!

Turn 3-4:

"Sir, the asteroids seem to be interfering with our communications..."

This is where it kicked off. Sorry no screen shot for turn 3... Reath opened up on the Impetuous and vaporised it. Few pot shots against Reaths ISD proved interesting with a critical getting through resulting in a projector miss alignment. Reath moved his squadrons in two groups. Fighters to engage my two aggressors and bombers off to engage Demolisher. I'd move the Instigator to attempt to block access to the space station.

"Sir Impetuous.... shes shes gone!"

"Get hold of yourself we have them right where we want them."

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BwtueTxAoSbedXNuaE1va2tCZHM

Turn 5:

"There's too many of them! Shields have failed! We're breaking up!" - final communications from the Gladiator Star Destroyer, Demolisher.

Lots of death and destruction in this turn. Demolisher was able to put a bit of pain on Reaths ISD and objective VSD before being picked off by the last of the TIE bombers. Relentless was able to finish off Reaths ISD and then move to engage the objective VSD. Impetuous made a run for it rather than get double arced next turn! In a telling moment Reath ran over the debris field striping 2 more shields. The untouched Relentless ploughed though the bombers knowing that there was no way they could take it down.

Turn 6:

"Sir, Instigator is fleeing and the enemy are hiding in the debris field. Our shots are obstructed. Should we continue to target them?"

With the destruction of Demolisher and Instigator fleeing Admiral Motti felt a niggle of defeat start to rise. He pushed it to one side. He would deal with the captain of Instigator later but immediately he needed to deal with his opponent getting away.

"Focus all fire power on that star destroyer!"

"But Sir..."

"Starboard and fore batteries NOW before they get away!"

The turbolasers on Relentless opened up on the VSD in front of her. Ricocheting through the existing space debris but the majority finding their mark ripping into the fore and starboard hull. Explosions ripped through the VSD adding more debris to the existing field but still she continued to hold together. Admiral Motti, stood fast on the bridge as his target powered out of the debris field. He reflected for a moment. The old Victory Class may have been superseded but they could still weather battle punishment like no other Imperial ship. It looked like the this was not going to be his day. How would he explain this to Grand Moff Tarkin. Wait... the other VSD was out of position! Under full power the battle scared Victory collided with the main thrusters of the one in front. The impact was too much for the critically wounded ship to take. Admiral Motti raised an eye brow but stood firm on the bridge. While the engagement had been won he had been unable to protect Demolisher resulting in the loss of a key Imperial asset.

"Navigation, prepare for the jump to hyperspace..."

Well, what can I say. That was **** close. I was sure that Reath had the game when he took out the Demolisher. The Instigator only just survived too. The overlap between the 2 victories was only just on the shield dials so there was nothing in it. Result (thanks to Bitharne for calculating). 336 - 220 = 116 MOV, 7-3 to JRock.

Game Log: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BwtueTxAoSbeTkdGNFFHd3JYWGc

Learnings:

Making Demolisher the objective ship was good to limit points loss. This is a good one to remember for the future.

Should have used more navigate commands on Demolisher to make the most of engine techs.

Stay out of asteroids and debris! First two critical hits, second from asteroids, on Reaths ISD both resulted in projector miss alignments. This resulted in 7 lost shields from 2 cards. Multiple other shields lost from debris fields.

Raider I anti squadron is very short range. Especially when trying to deal with Rhymer and friends.

Overall great game and sportsman ship.

Yeah i know... what was i thinking :)

Leowulf vs Qark starting soon (hopefully!)

Reporting the game between Leo and I, Leo gave me player 1 and we played the Superior Positions objective.

Leo Scored 184 points by destroying my ISD with Vader.

I Scored 210 points by destroying both the VSDs, all the TIEs, and scoring some victory points.

That is a difference of 26 sneaking into the 6-4 bracket if I post I saw earlier is correct.

Initial deployment saw us setting up in opposite corners of the table. Leo moved slow and let my fleet move across the table. This allowed my glads to move around the side of the fleet as they all pointed towards my ISD. Demolisher destroyed one VSD while fire from both my ISD and Insidious took down the other. The gunnery team on my ISD allowed it to put some hurt on Leo's ISD while attacking the VSD, however on the final round Leo increased speed and got out of range of the double arc insidious attack to the rear.

Where are the scores posted?

Nowhere yet. I am just recording them for now until the round is complete.

Double checking the scores from the game between Leo and I. I think we forgot to tally up the points of the TIEs I killed. Can you confirm Leo? Vic = 98, Vic = 97, TIEs = 24, Objective = 15, Total = 234? It doesn't change the score bracket.

Whoops... No, it wasn't, forgot to update on here. He had something come up, so playing Friday at 1900CST/0100GMT instead.

Yeah, between my work hours and his school, our game will have to wait until this weekend.

Yes! That is correct, my apologies.

Ceryliae I have a game all set up, please join! I hope you didn't forget. I can wait another 10 minutes but I can't start much later than 2130. I don't think I can reschedule at all for this week either.

My opponent did not show up at our agreed time.
