Zanos v clontroper5 is on right now, halfway over though. To anyone that's seen my anti squadron dice, please know they have decided to step it up this game!
2015 "Holiday" Vassal Tournament - Signup and Commentary Station
Zanos vs clontroper5 ended with Zanos winning 400-156. Looks like a win by 244 for me, so 9-1 if I got the chart right. clontroper5 has a log file if anyone is interested! Very good game, fleet ambush was once again the objective with me once again being second player. Not the craziest dice I've seen, but still pretty crazy. Well played by clontroper, and really, really bloody!
HERO vs Qark
10-0 for me, 430-30 MoV
Battle report here. I'd like to thank Qark for his great attitude and sportsmanship, and we had a blast playing despite some of the most aggressive flying we've both ever seen.
Edited by HEROCaptain ICT vs NebulonB: The word for this match was Long. Epic. Marathon. Super large word here. Due to a few things, we had some problems, but we eventually got to the end, about 9 hours later. Actually more like 9.5.
The theme of the day was Squadrons. There were 19 combined squadrons with 6 total ships. Both of us started out slow, going 1 and 2. With our MC80s pointed at each other, and NebB with Salvation to the left, and his flag CR90 to the right, with both of my Neb Bs coming to the left of my MC80. The Fighters jockeyed for position. Ending up in a somewhat flowing furball on turn 3.
Apparently both sides drank somewhere that had them unable to hold still, because the anti-squadron fire was terrible. NebB's was worse, but mine was crap as well. Simply because I overextended, and his Yavaris was closer, he started winning the squadron fight via sheer numbers of terrible dice rolled. He was keeping track at one point, and I think had 23 hits/40 misses on shots for AS. I didn't keep track, but I found it really annoying the numbers of crits and accuracies rolled against squadrons. If I'd been fighting imperial aces the accuracies would have been great, but that was stormtrooper level hitting on the shots. Possibly worse than stormtroooper level.
The furball developed, and his Yavaris was a primary target dying around turn 3 or 4. Most of NebB's ship fire was against squadrons, after that, Salvation started taking fire. I foolishly turned it in, trying to get a front shot off, when plowing through the furball and obstacles. That does not work well. MC80 fire, Yavaris's dying gasp and squadrons took it out on turn 5. Turn 6 we were past each other, with his CR90 having swung wide around the right side coming in. Getting the first after shot in the game for a token. Then sweeping into just the wrong space having his pounded on MC80 hit the station, after the turn before it hit an asteroid for perhaps the worst crit it could get: You cannot ready defense tokens, right when coming into scary range of the other MC80. My Yavaris was plodding along, and NebB's MC80 tried to kill it, but rolled poorly (sensing a theme?) right before it was destroyed with an MC80 to aft shot for a 2nd token, as did the CR90 when it went after Yavaris' side. Yavaris activated the X-wing, which died in what, given the prior rolling was a ramming attack with an A-Wing in a mutual suicide pact, freeing up my last two fighters, both B-wings, and both at point blank. The killing shot was from the aft, giving a second token.
I made a few mistakes, but the general crappy quality of the dice rolling let me survive and win, along with Dononna allowing me to pick the crits which were most effective at the time. The objective was superior positions, and frankly there weren't any. Unless you were betting against the dice being good. In which case... you need to play the lottery. This coming from someone who has never bought a lottery ticket, ever.
Final totals, 400 + 30 for 430 for me, and 169+15 for 184, with a MOV of 246, it's a 9-1 win, that easily could have gone the other way.
Not in the tourney but two questions as a new player who appreciates following this thread!:
1) Do you guys post logfiles at all (I saw a couple scattered in the thread) but am wondering if there are more.
2) I've hopped on Vassal here and there to observe but it's usually pretty quiet. Just bad timing or has it not really grown yet?

This was the most brutal loss I have ever had. Did not expect that MC80 to be able to melt gladiators so quickly. My normal game plan to is jam up the front of the enemy with the ISD and have the two glads attack the sides (works great against Imperial players with weak sides) but MC80s have a nasty habit of killing the Glads before they arrive in black dice range. I think this game was the most informative I have had in a long time, hopefully that will mean there won't be a repeat in our first local wave 2 comp this weekend.

Thanks, Captain ICT, for reporting! And public congratulations on a fine game and win and gracious play.
I might have had a fighting chance if not for rd 5 moving my Corvette to a position that would block my MC80 in rd 6, and the MC80 needed to move first. In all honesty, though, I think Yavaris would have got it, anyway, but it would have been more diffcult. Moving is an important part of the game, my opponent moved better. Yes, dice were horrible, nothing one can do about. Stopped counting mine at 23 blue hits, 42 blue misses and 2 black hits, 4 black blanks for fighters. In the end, I lost because of inferior movement, simple.
Thx also to Gowtah and Green Squad 3, and oc to the tournament organizer. Much appreciated gain of experience!
Looking suspiciously like me and Green Knight aren't going to be able to find a mutual time for our game.

Sometimes it is hard to remember to start a log file - or in the case of my last game, to forget to end it and click "no" when asked if you want to save it because you are in a rush to log out. But yeah, you'll find them scattered through this and the other two tournaments.
Onca vs Bitharne:
Onca played first, with superior positions as the objective.

Was an interesting matchup. I had hoped to flank his vsd with my two mc30s. But his demolisher closed in on one and I panicked with my other mc30, flying it into a debris field, to avoid getting cornered. IDK why, got so used to ISDs, that I expect all pizza wedges to move ridiculously fast. That cost me, and I lost my MC30s. But not before killing his gladiator and raider on the same turn. So 4 ships went down in one turn!
Then it was just a joust between a vsd and pals, and ackbar. He charged into me with the VSD, but ackbar ***** a lot of dice. Managed to finish off his VSD by turn 6, to get automatic 400 points. It didn't let me win by a huge margin, but I avoided a massive loss. He got so many points from the objective, thanks to rhymerball, that he closed the gap quite a bit.
Quite a fun game overall, I think we both made some silly mistakes, so I guess it's fair that it ended on a draw.
As a side-note: I didn't get a single crit/hit on my black dice ;_; That's my excuse!

Doesn't look good. Crazy pre-holiday schedule!
Similar situation here. I didn't have time over the weekend to play, and the time difference (and my new job) mean a weekday game is out of the question.
JRockNZ vs Ardaedhel about to start now...
Ridiculous game between JRockNZ and Ardaedhel came down to a series of sh*tty fighter rolls on both sides in round 6... and that was IT. He bagged an A-Wing, I got a Superior Positions VP.
Victory to Ard, 5-5, MoV is 4.
Great sportsmanship from JRockNZ, thanks!

I was going to do a story write up but this game was just so ridiculous that i can't bring myself to do it. Ardaedhel has screen shots so perhaps he can add these in a bit later (now added).
Ardaedhel set up on his right hand side looking to skirt around the asteroids using them for cover. I set up on my right hand side kitty corner to Ardaedhel. The plan was to come around behind asteroids hitting Ardaedhel from behind. The ISD-II Relentless and GSD-I Demolisher leading the way with the 2 Raiders covering their flank and my 2 aggressors covering the flank of the Raiders.

Well the result was that we both played very very conservatively with neither of us wanting to take the fight to the enemy. I know for myself this was a direct result of getting slammed by Captain ICT last week and just scraping away with the win. In hind sight I should have set up to confront Ardaedhel head on and backed myself more that we both would have been pinned by the Asteroids.
This is a long way of getting to the climax of the game. First shots weren't fired until the 6th turn! Ardaedhel actually got into a better position and was able to strike at the rear of the Relentless with his fighter squads. Lucky for me he only got 1 hit from his 4 awing shots. It was at this point that I realised that any damage (shield or hull) counts as a victory token. I was able to take out 1 of the offending A-wings with a combined attack from the aggressors under squadron commands, and Relentless. There was a possibility of taking out one of the MC30 at the end of the ship phase as it strayed into the front arc of Relentless. I rolled 7 damage, 2 accuracies, and, critically, 2 blanks. I kept the accuracies and locked and did 2 hull damage but not enough to take it out.
So thats where it ended. 15 mission points to 1 A-wing.
Specific learnings from this game.
I should have been much more aggressive in my set up and backed myself more as there was no way I was really going to get into the position for rear shots.
I shouldn't have clumped all my obstacles together and spread them out more giving a much more open board.
My build isn't really set up for Superior Positions. I'm going to tweak this build and think i'll end up with something much better.
I didn't forget my Tractor beam this game... i was just never in a position to use it!
Great game. The sportsmanship was again excellent which has been a running theme through out this tourney.

Edited by JRockNZThis probably goes without saying, but I'm assuming we are sticking with our MoV chart instead of the new one, correct?
Cant change horses in mid stream.
We will use the right one next time.

How far "off" is the current one?
About 50 percent at the 10-0 bracket. Very surprising actually.
I wonder if the recent high scoring tournaments had anything to do with it.
Not sure I'll be able to squeeze in the game against Caribbean Ninja
Time zones and work schedules are being jerks.
Sorry ![]()
Likewise, I'll have to forfeit as Xmas be whack, yo!
Do you think we should extend this last round by 1 week? It's Christmas afterall and I'm sure people will be busy with their families. What do you think Biggs?
Truthiness defeats Iskander4000 549-60 for a 10-0 win and a 489 MoV. I was first player and the objective was Fire Lanes. The log file, which may or may not have worked, can be found here:

This was my first time actually fighting against an Ackbar list. I was rightly fearing it, having seen HERO and Iskander dismantle people with their lists. I've had a theory on how to attack it, but until now it's been unproven. Man, did it work out well. I used my deployment advantage to spread Salvation out wide to cap the congo line, forcing Home One and the AFII into a kill pocket. Iskander had me worried for a minute there as he was double ramming Independence for a couple turns with engine techs and taking no damage in return because he was landing on the station. However, Yavaris, Salvation, and the Bs came at the AFII head on and quickly dispatched it. They were then able to swoop in and destroy Home One.
