Rieekan and End Of Round

By BiggsIRL, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

Hmmmm the second answer does not cover what happens if you kill your opponents last ship as well. . .

Sounds like, from my inference only, games will last until the status phase, rather than ending immediately.

So my guess is a 0 point defender margin of victory, if both fleets get destroyed.

This allows the Rieekan fleets to pick up more points for objectives like Fire Lanes and to pick up tokens.

Little tiny upgrade cards are not really the best place for some abilities.

That is going to cause wierd situations. . . If all ships get destroyed who wins? Do both players get the 400 points? (I expect this the most likely)

That's my guess. It also allows squadrons one more activation.

I imagine if 400/400 tie games become too common they'll change it.

He hinted at it, but didn't spell it out, that's frustrating, where the Hell is our FAQ, and Tournament update?! :P

Oh wait you mean the thing that could have hit with release since release was delayed so much there was a pre-release? I'm sure we will get it a week after SCs begin. I'm only being slightly sarcastic.

where the Hell is our FAQ, and Tournament update?! :P

and it also reflects a change in the upcoming tournament rules.

Its "Upcoming"... Right there.

The Boy has no patience.

The “End of Round” timing window occurs after the Status Phase, so ships that are preserved by Rieekan’s ability are removed from the play area before the check for Fire Lanes and Contested Outpost. Thus, those ships cannot help to score victory tokens before being destroyed.

I don't believe you at all you liar! Show us the email!

(I actually don't doubt you even a little - because this would be a really crappy lie because of how possible, and previously supported it seems, but if you can C&P the email that would be extra-nice.)

Hello, Matthew,

In response to your question:

Rules Question:

In what order would General Rieekan and Fire Lanes take effect. Namely, does End of Round take place during the Status Phase, or after the Status Phase has ended? Or, hilariously, at the same time - which makes an even weirder timing issue where the 2nd player's objective and General Rieekan both go off at the same time, meaning that if you are 1st player, you have to destroy your ship first, but if you are 2nd player you can decide the order and keep the ship alive. Long story short, I think we need a ruling on this one.

The “End of Round” timing window occurs after the Status Phase, so ships that are preserved by Rieekan’s ability are removed from the play area before the check for Fire Lanes and Contested Outpost. Thus, those ships cannot help to score victory tokens before being destroyed.
Thanks for playing!

I'm glad this one got an answer, because I think it's one of the murkiest as far as RAW go. Specifically, because the RAW seem to indicate conflicting timing for the end of the round: the last item during the status phase is to change the round counter, which, by definition, advances the game to the next round; however, that status phase belongs to the preceding round, which does not end until after the status phase does. Which means you have a brief period there where the round has not ended, but the next one has already started, and the status phase also hasn't ebbed, meaning Rieekan's zombies are still there...

Yeah, anyway, glad to get an answer to this one.
