Rebel Ace Ability

By Samwise Gamgee, in X-Wing

Let's say Red Ace suffers two hits. The first hit takes out one shield. Would his ability allow him to receive the evade token before suffering the second damage and then use that evade token to cancel that second damage? I'm not sure how the timing windows works.

Edit: whoops, wrote rebel ace.

Removing shield tokens/assigning damage cards is a separate step after comparing results, so no, the evade can't be used on that attack.

But I assume it could be used against the second attack of a TLT?

Comm relay might help this ace as well.

Don't forget a regenerating astromech. And maybe running over a space rock to gain that evade might be a workable strategy.

If you like ps 6.

And maybe running over a space rock to gain that evade might be a workable strategy.

I honestly can't think how.

Yes, you can use evade token from first TLT attack in second TLT attack.

Take a hit early, get a evade, green manuever or focus droid regen next round, enter combat full health and sitting on an evade token due to comm relay.

still not as durable as Poe

Too bad you can only have one Poe in a list then.

one Poe and one Miranda/Corran*

Miranda and this Ace are the reason you can't attack your own ships

I think if he took two hits, got an evade from the first one, he couldn't use that to cancel the second one. Since the step to modify dice and spend tokens and such has passed.

Edit: misread previous post

Sadly, he's going to be relegated to the list of pilots never used. Well, until there's a reason not to use PS8+ pilots. I thought mines were going to do that, but either they just haven't caught on yet (they are a completely different mindset on how to deploy vs. anything else in the game thus far), or they're just not effective enough.

His PS is not why he won't ever be used

he won't ever be used, because:

1.) NO EPT

2.) Because of no EPT, no offensive action efficiency

3.) no defensive action efficiency, just a situational ability that does nothing in a 1v1 scenario or when going into a round without shields

he basically has no appealing qualities apart from being slightly more difficult to kill than standard T-70

I'd take Blue Ace over this guy without missing a beat

Mines require an action. Appearantly people are scared their 16 point bomber is gonna get stressed and blowed up before it lays its 2-6 point egg.

I say go for it. Soontir eating a couple of mines would be funny.

it's brutal, but it's also difficult to do

easier just to fling dice than to learn to lay mines

it's far more fun to mine, though, and they completely ignore dice

bombers require precise flying and they have basically no defensive tech, be it the Tie or the easier to apply Warden with A-SLAM or Deathrain.

NOTE: if the meta were just PS 8+, these bombers would dominate with 0 issue. Problem is, it's not. There are tons of generics running around, and those efficient jousters are a bomber's greatest weakness. Not only do they out-joust you, but they're very inefficient targets for your awesome mines

IF your meta is only aces, though, pick up a Warden or Deathrain ASAP. A mix of conners and seismics lets them be relatively flexible.

Deathrain (acc corrector, conners, seismics; extra munitions) [37] + 3 Acc Corrector Advance = 100

Warden (A-SLAM, Intelligence Agent conners, seismics; extras) [34] + 3 Blue Squadrons = 100

ironically, though it completely **** over soontir, it's actually more effective against large ships. Double ionization onto rocks is brutal

I'll probably make decent use of her, though less often in the 100 pt standard format. She's just one of a handful of pilots that says "screw you, you can't kill me" joining the ranks of Gemmer, SJ Ibtisam, SJ Guri, Xizor, etc, and I'm a big fan of those.

On the EPT note, FFG really screwed up by adding action economy into the game... it is a *major* reason D&D 3.5/PF is so screwed up, because actions are pretty much better than anything else you could give most ships. The mid-range PS ships have their place, but they're very much 2nd tier to the 8+ 1st tiers.

without action economy, all you'd be seeing is generic spam

it's just a simple part of the game,

more mods = more reliable ship

&

naked dice = complete crapshoot

Red Ace has no action efficiency due to not having an EPT, and if he takes Targeting he can't take r2-d2 to abuse his ability. It's just anti-synergy by bad design, unless there's a future tech slot that helps.

other pilots, such as Guri (Predator, ability), Xizor (Predator/FCS, ability), Blacksun Ace (stims), and Red Squadron Veteran (EPT, targeting astromech), can through upgrades or abilities.

In fact, PS 4 Ties are getting a lot of attention as a Crackshot swarm supported via Howlrunner

It's not an issue of PS or even anything overly general, it's just that Red Ace is not very well designed and his pilot ability leaves much to be desired

If Targeting Astromech really is a carbon copy of K4, Red veterans are going to be awesome w/Integrated and Crackshot & Blue Ace might actually become very playable

1. PS 6. it's the game of Boostwing, don't get in if you'll get arcdodged in every game

2. No EPT slot to fix that. That's the type of pilots we've seen with Merc faction a lot, Graz, Asherra... They are mediocre PSes and can't EPT. ANd never see the light of day.

For the price, seems pretty useless. No EPT slot either.

Another wasted opportunity in my opinion.

EPT bot? Works great with IA!

problem is his ability is a fixed timer without a shield regen astromech (and dubiously useful even with it :()

Oh well, off you go to Limbo with Fel's Wrath.

(I tried)
