Confused by Lightsabers

By Reuben What Is?, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

Hi,

I'm a little confused by the Lightsaber construction rules in Force and Destiny.

If you buy a hilt (or make it) do you then have to use a Crystal to get a functional sabre?

And do the crystals replace the characteristics provided by the base weapon, or add to it?

The hilt is just a hilt. So yeah, you'd need something to make a blade! A crystal or a training saber emitter would do the trick.

Crystals essentially replace the stats on the base weapon. They also give it some pretty sick abilities. Note the verbiage on all lightsaber crystals: "Installing this crystal changes a lightsaber's base damage...and critical rating... In addition, the lightsaber gains the Breach 1 (etc) qualities..."

Pointy end goes into the other guy.

Hope that helps.

Sorry, just hadda say that....

A hilt requires 300-600 credits in parts to make, and does nothing, but requires a crystal to become a Lightsaber.

A "Basic Lightsaber" on the other hand is a hilt and Ilium crystal that's already constructed but has not had modifications done to the crystal. It costs 9,300 credits, exactly the same cost as building it yourself.

So if you find a crystal you can do 2 different things, you can make a Hilt and put crystal in It to have the characteristics of that crystal. Or you can replace the crystal in a "Basic Lightsaber" you have already bought/found, it will then have the characteristics of the new crystal.

The most common for players is to make a training Saber at a cost of 400 credits, then switch out the crystal when they find a proper crystal during their adventures.
