will the Gozanti get into Armada?

By Kimbo81, in Star Wars: Armada

just read the Gozanti artical for Xwing and I really hope that this ship makes it to armada. It would be great to launch fighters from a ship mid game. And would be cool to get an admiral that is fighter focused.

I believe it will but it will not have the launch mechanism. If they were going to implement that sort of mechanism they would have done it with the larger ships.

It would be good to get admirals on both sides that are fighter focused.

While the Gozanti will undoubtedly make it in at some point, I fail to see why launching fighters from a ship mid game would be great. This topic has come up several times, and I don't think anyone has really been able to supply a satisfactory answer. The ROI just doesn't seem to be there.

Almost without question.

I see it having horrible anti-ship armament but solid anti-squadron with a comparatively high squadron command value.

I dunno, not committing your fighters in the early game means they can't be targeted by enemy fighters, but those same enemy fighters can be hit by your capital ships. You can keep your fighters protected until they are ready to be launched.

Additionally, fast ships can carry those starfighters further than they can fly on their own. B-Wings for instance. If there was a mechanism to carry fighters futher and then deploy them when you need them, B-Wings would be incredible for this role. At worst it would be like hyperspace assault with a fighter 3 ship and that many B-Wing squadrons on the tail of an Imperial Star Destroyer.

It probably will along with the GR-75. but there is some game design problems that needs to be solved with such small ships. (unless they make them into some sort of squadron base that works within the existing ship rules - where say 3 Gozantis on a stand acts as if they were one larger craft ruleswise). But thay have implemented smaller single ships in the new squadron pack.

As a single small ship the Gozanti would be too powerfull if it would grant an extra activation, could get full benefits from all orders and could benefit from all normal upgrades and commander effects - or be to expensive for what it is..

Or, they can be destroyed before they're ever launched.

You run the same risk with upgrade cards going down with the ship before it gets a chance to be used.

But imagine dropping a couple of fresh B-Wings into point-blank range of an enemy ship with little risk of being intercepted or fired upon as they approach (or getting left behind for that matter). There is a reason why the fanbase has wanted a fighter launch mechanic in this game...

That's true, but the cost of a squadron or two is going to be much higher than the average set of upgrade cards. Especially with small ships, it would only take a couple of ships getting decent rolls to see all those points go away. Given the lack of surprise, i.e., we know everything that our opponent has, it just seems to me to be putting a big target on any ships that attempts that.

Or just make it like Rogues and Villains and have one on a fighter stand. Some of those Rogues are up to half the size of a Gozanti. Could just put one on a stand (and the same for a GR75) and include them in a new fighter squadron pack. Would also allow for the addition of new rules regarding ships that are too small to be ship bases (and thus fit on squadron stands), but at the same time aren't squadrons. Either way, could prove interesting :D

Hi,

Gozantis and GR75 might come as single ship squadrons. Similar to the YV 666 which is slightly smaller than the Gozanti.

Greetings

haha, same idea at the same time... :-)

it'd have to come as some weird-ass squadron

it and the GR-75 are smaller than the Raider, which is adorably miniature at this scale

The same was said over and over again in X-Wing, yet here we are with a deploy mechanic and the Gozanti carrying 4 TIE Fighters that it can launch mid game..

As has been pointed out, it makes somewhat more sense in Armada since you could slip a squadron behind a screening line of fighters, but we still got it in X-Wing.

Eh. 4 TIE fighters is a big deal in X-Wing.

I feel that 4 TIE Fighters does not a Squadron Make in Armada...

But who knows.

I don't really care for the deployment tactics. On the face of it, there's too many abuses of it for me. Plus, then you either have the Revision of Rules/Cards to allow other things that should be able to do it, to do it (such as Victory SDs), but still somehow restrict those who shouldn't (Raider/Corvette, maybe?)...

Which gets more convoluted than I personally care for.

Let's just get a bunch of games in on Wave 2, work out the great balance there, and then look forward to Wave 3 when we're no longer satisfied with what we have.

I still think that the ship is too small for a small ship base.

Even if you had 3 Gozanti, and they launched all their 12 TIE fighters, you get.... 1 base of TIEs. Underwhelming at best.

I would however like to use the 'undocking' mechanism twisted, made evil then turned up to 11 and used to create a WORLD DEVASTATOR large based ship that creates new droid TIEs at the following rate:

  • Destroys squadron +1 droid TIE
  • Destroys ship +2 droid TIE
  • Rams ship +2 droid TIE
  • Destroys ship by ramming +5 droid TIE

Maybe it could be a dedicated carrier, which allows up to XX points of free fighters (meaning, fighters that don't count against your 1/3 of points total). Basically be what escort carriers were in WWII, a cheap way of getting more fighters into the fight.

Squadron bases, I hope. If they are ships they'd have to have serious drawbacks to justify an activation for less than 39 points.

Or they can run like squadrons. Maybe pseudo-squadrons. Like they get to activate first in the squadron phase or something. That way you get a more tangible advantage, but not quite a ship activation. They could have command dials, but maybe all dials give them a token effect instead of a dial effect, and they can't have tokens.

I don't know, I'm just rambling at this point.

I figured the Gozanti would act in the range between small bases and squadrons as a kind of Fighter Tender. Maybe activating the Gozanti allows it to activate two friendly fighters at short range, or when it activates during the Squadron phase it can allow one or two friendly fighters at short range to move and shoot. That kind of thing.

Dear God no! Eliminating everything Dark Horse Comics did from the 'canon' is one of the few parts of the Disney dropping the EU that I am truly happy about.

Alright, maybe not just that. Roughly half of the garbage that was written was just bad and I don't mind seeing it gone. There was some really good stuff though (just not the Dork Horse Comics crap... IMHO) :)

I'll second the hatred of Dark Empire. It's been years since I've read it, but I remember it being stupid. And flipping through the encyclopediae (what encyclopedias should really be), I can always recognize that atrocious artwork.

I'm less sarcastic than I should be. ;)
