Ordinance Tubes

By Stilgod, in X-Wing

Proton Torpedoes look great, especially with the Ordnance crew. One eyeball turns to criticals and one blank to hit.

Plasma Torpedoes are good, too. They are cheap. They will do extra damage to take down capital ship shields. What's not to love?

Assault Missiles will be crazy fun in Epic.

Helps explain all the XWING/ARMADA art wherein The Raider is clearly firing missiles.

I think we all know what the most useless usage of this would be.

UNLIMITED PROTON ROCKETS! All the 2 attack range 1 attacks you could ever want!!

Huge ships cannot take focus so you'd never be able to fire proton rockets.

Unless you have a certain K-Wing around.

I think the optimal use is one set of assault missiles and one set of ion torpedoes.

Even worse case they are still 4 dice attacks.

Remember that there are ordnance cards that don't spend locks which are given a whole new significance here.

Yeah this is going to be a must use type of card. Just the fact that it lets you use a secondary weapon on a huge ship without needing to provide it energy is really heavy.

You lose range, but I am struggling to see how that can compete with having all that extra energy.

If you look at the cards they spoiled, put together they resolve a lot of issues huge ships struggle with (specifically energy and the recover/reinforce action paradox).

Even Ion Pulse Missile will be great as you can double up on the target lock use. Outside of the range 1 only items, everything will work.

This entire topic grew while I was slaving away on this thread.

Balanced through no Focus action on Epic ships.

However, Ordnance Experts, Palpatine and Concussion Missiles/Proton Torpedos laugh at the lack of a Focus action.

While this is awesome, I don't think it's an auto-include, though. The other upgrades that deal with energy and such can also make other options work. I guess it depends on the ship, really. I wouldn't use it all the time on the Gozanti, for instance.

So realistically, how many Torps/Missiles can we actually put on one of these guys and use it? Two? Max?

It depends on upgrades. You can use a Weapons Engineer to get 2 Target Locks, which will help when you have a ship like the Corvette with not a huge overlap in arcs.

Don't forget Weapons Engineer. Spend a TL for the missile/torp, still have 1 to spend for rerolls. Then there's Jendon+Title, Jonus...this is easily one of the most game-changing cards ever.

Weapons Engineer don't help. TL is on another ship. Lack of focus is still a problem if you roll more than one eyeball.

Thoughts on seeing a similar modification on small ships. The creators of the game said the most expensive upgrade card is coming out this wave and they made mention of how the emperor "breaks the rules". Would definitely "fix" ordinance but at a price. At least 9 anyway

Huges aren't part of waves though.

Don't get your hopes up. It wouldn't be worth it anyway.

What's wrong with the spelling?

He meant "wording"

When you are told to do it, be a bad guy, don't do it!

Actually the OP said he spelled the Thread Title wrong.

Ordinance Tubes should be Ordnance Tubes

Ordinance is a law or statute

Ordnance would be missiles and torpedos.

Or, as judge dredd put it.

I AM THE LAW!!!

This is getting out of hand. As I said: Don't drink and post.

They were referring to the Punishing One title card for the JM5K in Wave VIII.. 12 points to up your 2 attack primary to 3 attack.

I WILL NAME MY RAIDER THE THUNDERCHILD!!!!! TORPEDO BOATS!!!!!!

Mine shall be called "The Postman". Raider with this upgrade is the new GSOAT. Hands down.

My title is wrong. Don't drink and post.

Tis the season

I confess to being a bit bothered that it's a carte blanche "unlimited use" upgrade.

I mean...it's ordnance. Even on a huge ship...you DO run out of it. That's really what the counterbalance is compared to energy weapons. One is front-loaded...you've got a lot of it, but you run out, and when you are out then you are out...can't get any more. The other you have less of at any given point, but you never do run out of it - it just keeps replenishing. That balance would have been nice to see.

IE., I'd have been happier if they gave us a sheet of the new 'extra munitions' tokens with the expansion, and this modification card indicated you put a stack of, I dunno, 16 of them on the card or something - spending one each time a weapon is fired.

As it is, this just feels like a bit of a no-brainer to take. The biggest headache in running a 'huge' ship...even without all those amazing upgrades on them...is the staggering difficulty in keeping the weapons hot while trying to do anything else at all. And now we've got something fully the equal in advantages of most of the hardpoint upgrades with no corresponding disadvantage? I dunno...seems like a missed opportunity.

Requiring target locks to fire and having worse range limitations than most Hardpoint upgrades seem like disadvantages to me.
