Silence broken! New post at last.

Geordan?! Make it so! I gots some lists to build.

I'll get to it tonight.

Except for Ordnance Tubes; that one reveals a significant design flaw in my builder, in that it doesn't properly track two halves of a huge ship together. That may take some time, if I can coax it in at all.

I feel like a nice compliment to a TIE Swarm may be the following:

Gozanti

-Ordnance Tubes

-Ordnance Experts

-Advanced Homing Missile

-Tactician

-Docking Clamps

-Broadcast Array

57 points

Take two of them, each filled with TIE Fighters (Howl in there too) and that leaves around 84 points to compliment it.

Basically, the Gozanti acts as an Epic ship hunter by sliding crits under their shields. That, or it can cripple aces with a Jam action and Tactician applying to a very wide arc.

Meanwhile, the TIEs just swarm whatever needs killing or corral enemy ships into the range 2 sweet spot of the Gozanti.

Just initial thoughts.

Yay, a useless card out of the box. It seemed so promising, too.

Do you think for a moment they won't change the rules so that it does work? TI'd imagine they'll likely update the Huge Ship rules to disallow it free actions from other ships.

Anyone pointed out that Advanced Protocols doesn't actually work? Huge ships can't take free actions. And no, the "card beats rule" won't apply, just as you can't Squad Leader a stressed ship.

Unless I've missed some errata...

GOLDEN RULES (rules reference, p2)
If a rule in this guide contradicts the Learn to Play booklet, the rule in this guide takes priority.
Card abilities can override the rules listed in this guide. Mission rules can override both card abilities
and rules from this guide.
If a card ability or mission effect uses the word “cannot,” that effect is absolute and cannot be overridden by other effects.

This may be the most misunderstood rule in the game.

Cards do override base rules, but only when they say they do, and they must do so explicitly. Tycho overrides the "no actions while stressed" rule because he says so. Squad Leader does not, because it grants an action, but says nothing about the stress restriction.

Advanced Protocols is a Squad Leader, not a Tycho. It grants an action, but has nothing that would override the "No free actions for huge ships" rule. So unless there's something that allows it (rules errata, another crew that gives a Tycho-like overriding, etc) the card doesn't work.

Just realized this combo. Roark, esege, cr90 with tubes and the new tracers missiles. At PS12 can use eseges focus to shoot tracers, everyone gets targets locks, EVERY round. Whoa...

So say you have a guy at range 5 you really want dead? You fire primaries at him, spend the target lock and then use the tracers on some close by ready to hit target, get a target lock on that guy, get *another* target lock on your real target and hammer him with a TL'd turbo laser.

Tough to pull off, sure but deadly? You bet.

So the Quizzy Tie can't dock on the ship from the same source material? Or does it fall under the umbrella of Tie Advanced... :\

I have a blog post with all the consolidated Wave 8 news. Just updated it with all the new info.

I'm still interested in the unspoiled cards. 3 are clearly titles (which...meh, generally aren't that good) but the two pairs that are unspoiled are exciting. The article claims there are still 2 unspoiled upgrade cards usable by any ship. I'm assuming there's a new ordnance card, though I suppose it could be generic crew, as well.

You have the multisection ships as being able to carry two modifications.

It'd need a complete redesign of how to handle the multisection ships, but how about you make it a single ship with the following pulldowns:

[segment] [segment] [modification]

Then pulling down a segment will add the relevant slots, like the A-Wing title, Virago title or B-Wing E/2.

We know as much as you do.

Just add a new type. Call it "Hardpoint - x" or something and allow it to contain both hardpoints, missiles, and torpedoes. Of course I suppose you'd have to remove the existing hardpoints once the tubes are selected first though. That could be problematic.

HOLYCRAPAWESOME!!!!

Can the Raider and CR-90 take a mod on each half of the ship card?

I know first thing I'll do with this is run it with a bunch of bombers. Maybe a Redline flying around as well. Ordinance Experts sounds awesome as someone who loves Tie Bombers

Really? The first thing I'm going to do with it is run around the house making engine and laser noises!

I believe both the TIE/AP and TIE/fo will be able to use the Docking Clamps but FFG will have to clarify the card via the FAQ. The one surprise to me is that TIE Bombers can also use them. It looks to me that the TIE Bomber model will not fit in the part you use to dock it to the Gozanti. I thought that FFG would have limited it to what ships could physically dock with the Gozanti model.

Really, REALLY good question.

HOLYCRAPAWESOME!!!!

I don't think so. Current rules say: 1 Modification per ship, Huge ships only take Mods that say "Huge Ship Only"

Based on that, I'd say that we're stuck with only 1

:(

Makes sense though.

OMG THIS JUST MADE MY SPACE ROCKS FRIGATE SUPER-RIDICULOUS!!!

PM me. I'm curious about the Frigate and how it looks.

Hmm so as written you can mix tie/fo and tie/ln since they are both tie fighters

Or you can mix tie advanced and tie adv prototype since they are both advanced?

No need to PM, this one is still on the boat. But I'll still likely have it before the Gozer.

Also as written you can't use any Raider titles for the Raider. So what.

Don't we know better? Seriously? It is crazy to think Fantasy Flight came out with a card that does absolutely nothing under any circumstances.

Play the game or argue about rules. I'd rather play the game.

Then please, please post close up pics and commentary.

I promise when comes brown box day I'll post a full review.

Complete with showing the full battlegroup.

How many years did it take for FFG to 'fix' Night Beast?

So I realized that we will likely be getting huge ships for both residence and first order factions.

The rules for upgrade cards say that you can equip them to any ship type that contains the stated type in its entirety, and uses the example of a TIE/FO Fighter being able to equip TIE Fighter only upgrades. Whilst this rule specifies equipping upgrade cards, I'm fairly certain it will also apply to Docking Clamps and which ship types they can carry.

I've never played epic but can the munitions upgrade be used with the rebel transport to make it a torpedo boat?
