taking the Plunge...

By Shadowmax, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

Today, I'm picking up the IA core set. After reading the "Sell me on IA" posts and checking out tutorials on you tube, it's time.

After the core set, what expansions should one get to get things started, besides, Hoth.?

Thanks Guys...in advance :)

If you're mainly a campaign player get Twin Shadows. And of course hoth when it comes out!

Since I like figures more than tokens I have at least 1 of every expansion. The ATST one has some pretty sweet gun upgrades, looks awesome with the figure popping out of the hatch. I think my favorite though is the Royal Guard Champion. His figure just makes a skirmish squad look like a death squad!

That depends... If you're mainly in it for campaign, then Twin Shadows is a must. OR if you want to do both. Unfortunately most of the stuff in TS is rather weak in Skirmish. If your primary interest is the Skirmish game, however, you should seriously consider a second core set. Then Rebel Saboteurs. Then MORE Saboteurs.

until you realise his top half looks like he is canoeing down a river! local to me we refer to him as Canoeing Dave The (insert very rude word here)

If your playing the imperial in the campaign, I really like the RGChampion Agenda set, Crimson Empire. The "Pulling the strings" can be great if the rebels are foolish enough not to take it out immediately. Its another "Pay or punish" type empire card.

Just picked it up ...(core set) with Sabs pak and C3P0/R2 pak.....holy crap this game is humungus!!...well first things first, out come the paints....

thanks for the tips everyone...!!!

and away we go...... :)

I'm envious.

I will also be taking the plunge, but not for a week or so. The painting bug has bitten me again, and I've got to do something to scratch that itch.

You're welcome to paint my minis. I'll make you dinner if you come here, or I'll ship some boxes of mac 'n cheese if you'd prefer to paint at your place. :D

Tempting, but I'm living "la vida low-carb." Mac and cheese is a definite "no-no."

Besides, you don't know how I well I can/can't paint!

Well, after the first 4 campaign missions, and a couple of side missions, I've got the league night guys hooked. There ya go FFG, 4 more core sets and a crap load of expansions sold at the flgs!!( next>>>skirmish!!!)

maybe I should get commission..... ;) ............ !!!

My shopping priority after getting the core set was the hero and villain expansions so that I can replace the tokens with actual miniatures. I'd recommend getting all of the minis that appear in the core expansion.

But then again after reading your last post, it sounds like you're hooked, so just go ahead and buy everything (its not like there is a whole lot out now since the game is still pretty new). :)

I'm in a pretty sweet spot, at the moment. A buddy of mine bought the core set and I'm painting his minis. We're also playing a Star Wars RPG and using some of the minis in that game, so I'm just buying minis that I like and/or that we can use in the RPG. Once I get them painted, I'll "donate them to the cause" and we'll shoehorn them into the campaign. The only downside is that we don't get together to play nearly as often as I'd like.

At any rate, I've purchased Boba Fett, the Wookiee warriors, and R2-D2/C-3PO so far, and I'm looking forward to some of the Hoth minis.

Mistakes were made....after asking around I ordered the core Tuesday. Since then I've read as much as possible, got excited, and ordered everything else yesterday. Merry Christmas to me and especially my gaming group as I've left them nothing to be responsible for. Maybe they'll help paint.

Jacenat: Nice guide, I look forward to future installments.

**** man! That's a pile of cash if you got *everything. Congrats on the purchase though. Serious envy!

Well Lads(Lass'), after a week or so since purchasing IA, the campaign is chugging along nicely. Been trying out some skirmish games aswell. There seems to be alot of different ways to go when building a list. The game is full of cool characters,(IG88, RG champ, etc), as I previously posted, I got some sabs and the C3PO/R2 pak and just yesterday, Chewbacca(very good unit), but there is something I noticed.......Han Solo....seems.....well, not bad attack dice(1 blue and 2 greens)....but the rest of his abilities are.....meh. Is it me, or are you folks as let down as I.....I mean this is supposed to be Han 'bloody' Solo. At 12 points, he isn't half as good as Luke or Chewy(Imho).....Han shoots first?....I don't think so......I think I'll leave him in the box.....

What do you folks think?

That's pretty much been the consensus about Han so far, sadly. He's quite a bit better when adjacent to C3P0 (gaining Focus and a free Evade...which also becomes a free Block). But yeah, he should've costed 10 points, rather than 12. Regardless, I think FFG has left the door wide open to further renditions of Han: this one is called "Han Solo Scoundrel"...there is still room to make a "Han Solo Smuggler" or "Han Solo Rebel General" or whatever. So I think there is room for hope that some day we'll have at least one power Han to use.

You give me hope my friend....this wouldn't be StarWars without good old Han... :)...and without 3P0 stuck to his arse like a lint ball... ;)

The timing was right - decent sales last week. Blew through my X-Wing wave 8 budget though. From what I can see so far it was worth it.

After painting your 12th stormtrooper, you'll have a splitting headache.....LOL!! I certainly did.....they turned out great tho'.....

dear stormtroopers,

you are boring to paint,

none of my love,

painter

Should seem right at home painting the Stormtroopers. Coming from Warmachine, a few of my elven units started to look as if they worked for the Empire.

Well, I just jumped in after reading up and watching YouTube. I love miniature games and I don't have anything star wars. So I ordered the core set, and a few other main characters. I'll probably end up playing more skirmish games... I'm not concerned with meta game, just want to relive the movies I game form. This looks like a lot of fun and will be introducing it to some gaming friends. Really looking forward to painting the minis, too!
