If you have a <torpedo> or <missile> card equipped, at the beginning of the combat phase, you may perform an attack with a secondary weapon that instructs you to discard a card. If you do, you cannot perform another attack this round.

This would give a boost to the low ps ordnance carriers.

I would probably design a card that would allow you to convert a focus token to a target lock in the end phase, but only if you have the target lock action in your action bar.

If possible, I'd also make a case for some missing characters to appear in the game - Davish Krail, Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi, the reader can probably think of more.

Makes ordnance a bit more lethal and gives alpha strikes more punch.

Pilot abilities were designed with the limitations and jobs of their ships in mind. You start letting people pass abilities around willy nilly the game becomes impossible to balance properly and you drive people away. Doesn't attack wing do this? Look how that turned out...

Edit to add: just off the top of my head...carnor jax in a decimator or vader in a phantom..there are serious problems with this

Tie Advanced Prototype Pilot (I do have a name picked out), PS 5: When you perform a BR you may instead BR an asteroid at range 1. If it overlaps an enemy ship roll 1 attack dice. On a hit or crit that ship suffers 1 damage; on a focus you may choose to BR.

OR

Force Sensitive, PS 4 or higher, 1pt: Increase your PS by 1. You may equip other cards with the FORCE keyword.

First one gives you a midlevel TAP that can ACE generics or punish aces. It allows more damage on a 2 dice ship, which is always the problem. You could, albeit unlikely, get 2 damage with good placement.

Second really flavors up the FORCE. Imagine a Move object to move obstacles, battle meditation for a glimmerstim like effect, Force Sight to take a maneuver/ re deploy before first round dials... Imperials could have Inquisitor training, Rebels Jedi training, and Scum could just get Lucky.

Heck, I'd design it twice; just to show em!

An EPT that allows you at the start of the activation phase to declare a pilot skill from 0 to you pilot skill that you may treat as your pilot skill until the end of the activation phase. Maybe 2 points? Would allow you to activate when you want to. Could possibly change so you only declare it as soon as you want to activate the ship.

An Astromech card that is actually not an Astromech, but an "Auxiliary Generator" that allows me to Miranda Doni my way around the field.

You want your X-Wing fix? There's one.

EDIT: Or, operatively speaking, a Y-Wing buff.

My previous answer would have been a 1 or 2-point mod but it seems like all my ideas for that are now going to be tech.

I still feel like cheap mods are a gap in list-building but I'm not sure how you could design it without it feeling it should just be tech.

I had an idea for a card the other day.

EPT - 6 pts.

During the planning phase, plan two dials for this ship. During the activation phase, when this ship would normally activate, choose which dial to flip and execute, the other dial is removed from play.

Jawa mechcanical 5pts - Action- roll one defence dice and turn over one weapons card that has been discarded. Focus (eye) symbol will reactivate the weapon, if a blank is rolled you my roll one more time only and receive a stress token.

Insanely gamebreaking imo.

Looking at dial already exist in a milder version, but changing your own dial to adjust to it would be insanely powerfull. Espcially if you are down to a 1v1 ship combat.
