Anyone trying Panic Attack with TLT yet?

By gamblertuba, in X-Wing

Mr Froggies has an entire write up on the classic panic attack from Worlds 2014 here.

For those unfamiliar, it looks like this:

Blue Squadron Pilot (22) x3
Tactician (2)
B-Wing/E2 (1)
Gold Squadron Pilot (18)
Ion Cannon Turret (5)
R3-A2 (2)
Total: 100
I'm wondering if anyone has tried incorporating the TLT version of the stresshog yet. Obviously you can't run three tactician blues anymore so what to do? I can think of a few reasonable options for the remaining 24 points.
  1. Run one Blue naked and bump the stresshog up to a Gray.
  2. Trade tactician for FCS on one of the Blues.
  3. Run one Blue naked and go for a 2 pt initiative bid.
  4. Drop a Blue for a couple bandits blockers. (probably my favorite)
  5. Trade a Blue for a TLT Goldie.

Got a tourney St. Louis tomorrow and haven't played in over a month. Trying to decide what to run. Any of these options sound like a winner?

Honestly if you're still looking for stress overload a Flechette Cannon on one of the B-Wings would free up that point for TLT. I've had great experiences with using Flechettes at range 3, plus with the Tacticians handy you can simply use the cannon first and still double-stress at range 2.

I like 4 or 5. Blockers can be useful to halt an ace and get them in the stresshogs firing arc. An extra TLT sniping from the edge of the furball would not be unwelcome either.

Do a Tactician TLT HWK! It gives you a true turret, as well as a second double-stress ship.

Thought of that one just after posting. Could work. I think part of the beauty of the OG Panic Attack was the three identical Blues. One with Flechette could be interesting. Problem is the stupid cannon has to fire first when the defender is still tokened up and only works if it hits.

(Rant:Man the flechette cannon is steaming pile of disappointed. I get more upset about the Scyk expansion all the time.)

Tactician and R3-A2 and TLT confuses the heck out of me every time. I like the idea but keeping arc in a HWK might be beyond my piloting ability. I think range and arc control might be tricky but good gravy that list would make Soontir and his ilk mighty nervous.

Did you see Aaron Boner's World's list? 3 K-Wings with Tactician? He called it Panic Attack 2.0 on our Episode 36. Very good list!

You can't count on it at all against an ace, it's just another no-go zone, and a solid attacker against a lot of stuff. I think you hang back with it and make the initial approach more difficult for your opponent. It's the softest target, but also the worst in the late game, so it's kind of okay if it dies early. You probably park it a range band behind the stresshog, so if anything jumps up to avoid the stresshog's double-tap, the HWK will give them it's own double-tap. It's not that stiff a dial either, pretty much exactly as stiff as a stressed-out Y-wing, which is what the stresshog will usually be.

I watched all of the twitch streams. List was crazy. Only own two K-wings myself but considering a sort of Word's redux list. Something like:

Gold Squadron Pilot (18)
Twin Laser Turret (6)
R3-A2 (2)
BTL-A4 Y-Wing (0)
Miranda Doni (29)
Twin Laser Turret (6)
Tactician (2)
Poe Dameron (31)
Veteran Instincts (1)
R5-P9 (3)
Autothrusters (2)
Total: 100
(BTW Ed, may want to check the spelling on Aaron's last name...)

LOL...fat fingers! Sorry KO!

I am waiting for the Ghost to bring us the Attack Shuttle which is going to be able to equip both Tactician and TLT. Probably won't get the TLT in Panic Attack, though.

I thought he preferred having it called ...

I would drop a Tactician in favor of an FCS. There's a point when stress becomes redundant, and that point is somewhere around 3 stress per round. At that point, you're hurting yourself (if anything) by adding more, since your opponent is more likely to give up on the idea of having an action and resort to white moves for better positioning.

True, but that makes the assumption that you are getting everything in arc all the time. What people forget about stress and tactician/R3-A2 in general is that the area control is at least as important as the action denial itself.

I love that Miranda, Poe, TLT gold list, it is just dirty. Not to knock Nathan's awesome feat, but I was really rooting to see KO versus Heaver in the final and that list is a really nice hybrid of both of their lists.

I took a modified panic attack to nationals and did pretty well, I set out to try and take 2 b 2 y with tlts and tactician to worlds but 4 tlt just ate it alive so I went in a different direction.

I think the answer is a green squadron a with refit push autothrusters and wired, but it's hard to keep that in formation
