EU Large Ship Fix

By ryanabt, in X-Wing

We all know that EU is better on a large ship than on a small one. Some have suggested that it should have two squad point costs.

Wouldn't it be better to add something like "A large based ship equipped with EU takes a stress when it takes the boost action"

That just adds unneeded complexity

The second place list at Worlds used Engine Upgrade on Corran Horn. Only one large ship in the top 8 used Engine upgrade. Looking at the top 16, we still see both small ships and large ships using Engine Upgrade and no apparent imbalance.

And the winning list at Worlds didn't use Engine Upgrade or large ships at all.

So this seems like a fix to a problem that doesn't actually exist.

Considering that EU comes with large ships, I expect it's already balanced with large ships in mind. It's not as if it's an upgrade from a small ship expansion which just happens to give unusual results when applied to a large ship.

Large ships have already received a double whammy with TLTs and the half points rule. Why do you want to weaken them further?

What???? This is madness....EU on large ships are fine.

No fix needed.

Try this topic again six months ago :P

There has been a fix. It's called TLT.

EU large ship fix = TLTs

No fix needed

Fixed by a TLT already.
Yeah, cool, you boosted into R1 of the TLT and have free evade tokens C3POs and all?

The problem is maybe not the boost in itself. But that many of the large based ships have a too good dial.

Decimator, Agressor, Firespray, YT2400, YT1300.

I can buy it that the Agressor and the Decimator have good dials, these are warships. In part even the Firespray as patrol craft.

Still all of the above have dials at par with the X-Wing, Z95, Khiraxz and Tie Phantom, and better than Y, B, TIE Bomber.

Being large base, even the fastest fighters like A, E, TIEs have problems keeping up with them. With engine update it gets hilarious.

The YT:s are **** lorrys! Still they fly better and faster than a lot of fighters. While e.g. the HWK, as fast freighter and courier, flies like a brick with the game's 2nd worst dial. Worst is the shuttle. The YT:s should have a dial like that. Reduced point cost for the generics, but a heftyli expensive title, which improves the dial by removing reds and adding a K.

With the current state of YTs in this game, I don't understand why rebels at all bother with X-wings and other fighters: Take a couple of YT:s, remove anything redundant, and just pack them with MOAR guns and ordnance. Then they outfly and outgun everything.

Agressor and Slave just were "enlarged' to be called a big ship.

Small base aggressor would be perfect.

And it should have a good dial.

Firespray dial is not that epic, actually. No uber-1-turns, no S-loops (despite the fact fett pulled them off!)

Deci is nice and feels more like a normal fat turret. No1-turns, no K-turns.

BUUUT 2400 has a better dial. it has ALL THE MANEUVERS

YT series with EU are among THE most maneuverable ships in the whole game.

Nope.

EU/large base is fine.

Yeah, well... Maybe you're better off playing Pokemon.

more than a fix for "card X" we need a fix for the attitude some folks have..

big ships "got hit" twice now in the last weeks; MoV and tlts.

now, we could either see how that balances out and open threads once we KNOW and have some kind of EVIDENCE that things are wrong..

..or we could hit the "panic button" repeatedly.

I know hat hitting buttons is kinda fun ;), but just once in a while people could at least try first and post then, instead of the constant "fix X, Y is broken, Z is beyond repair.."

I think big ships are in a good place right now. Trading a better boost for an easier time getting blocked is fine as is.

or rocked

(like a hurricane)

Just pointing out that I didn't say big ships needed to be fixed. I suggested a better fix, if there were to be one. I realize that TLT is a thing. Unfortunately, a true fix isn't a counter. A true fix is a balance in the ship/card itself.

That said, I wasn't arguing that large ships are broken. I happen to dislike how maneuverable they are, but not worried about how they affect me. If I wanna play with stress for EU, I will. I don't play tournaments.

There was talk on this forum at one point of altering the way large ships use the boost action, in the same way the barrel roll was changed, but there isn't really a method that is as elegant when considering bank templates.

To echo the sentiment of the thread, though, I think we are at a point with large ships where the improved boost is a fair trade-off with the disadvantages.

You do realize we're talking about the Millennium Falcon here, right? The same ship that outmaneuvered TIEs in an asteroid field and later flew through the Death Star 2's superstructure tunnel alongside dedicated Rebel fighters to strike the final blow?

Of course it can fly better and faster than a lot of the fighters, that's exactly how it was in the movies.

1 Turn on a Large Base does not equal 1 Turn on a Small Base. Even if their dials are on par with small base ships, their actual movements are not. I don't see any issues with their dials.
