New player - 100pt rebel list - comments for first few times playing

By tonycanevaro, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi Everyone! I've played three games so far with my sons ships and decided to go get started. Here is my first squad with the ships I have. Thoughts?

First try

Knave squadron e wing

Blue squadron B wing

- R2 astromech

- advanced sensors

Biggs

Gold squadron Y wing

- engine upgrades

That's my rebel ships besides a falcon.

The set of ships that you have don't mesh tremendously well together. You're better off scrapping one for some upgrade points on the others. Personally, I'd dump the Y-Wing, it's strength is secondary weapons which cost a bit too much for your other ships to capitalize on. That'll free up 22 points.

Let's upgrade the Knave to Etahn. Now each ship firing at some on in his arc can change a hit to a Critical Hit

Then we'll upgrade the Blue to Ten Numb. The enemy can't evade a Critical Hit with dice. That includes Evade tokens as Evade tokens just add to the dice result. We're going to give Ten an Autoblaster so the enemy can't evade Hits with dice either. We'll also put the Engine Upgrade on Ten to get him into Range 1 to use that autoblaster when possible.

Finally, we'll keep Biggs to extend the life of our heavy hitters. Keep him at Range 3 from enemies if possible, and we have enough points to get R7-T1 aboard. This allows us to boost to Range 3 or out of arcs if needed. Spreading the damage out extends Biggs' life which can in turn keep everyone else alive longer. We also get a free Target Lock, so we can attack with him if possible.

Cool feed back, thanks. I'll give it a try. Hoping to get a couple games in at the local shops this week. My son plays imperial so if I can practice a bit ill give him a run for his money. Fun stuff. :)

Cheers!

If you have the core set for the rules the you should have R2D2. An E-Wing with R2D2 regenerating shields is a tough ship to the remove. I like running Etahn with 2x B Wings to get a lot of offensive power, especially against low shielded opponents where the ability to upgrade to criticals causes a lot of chaos :-)

Funny thing I just bought a second B wing....

Ten Numb + autoblaster seems really awesome in theory. But then you go up against a half-decent opponent who realizes how utterly foolish it is to get into range 1 of numb. So now they either block Ten to deny his shots on anything, or they arc-dodge (or atleast just stay out of R1). So at that point you realize he's 40 points of dead weight in your list...

I would suggest not using Ten Numb with autoblaster. He's fun in casual situations where opponents are not trying too hard to win, but if you go up against an opponent trying to take victory out of your hands, its too easy to capitalize on the downsides of the b-wing dial in general and the autoblaster's limited range in particular...

A pair of generic b-wings, or mix of generic b-wings + x-wings plus one of the named e-wings with R2D2 is a solid base to build a list on though.

Ok, so:

Ethan:

- Advanced Sensors

- R2D2

Dagger

- ion cannon

- engine upgrades

Blue sqd

- ion cannon

- engine upgrades

Thoughts? Seem like a squad that will slow down a lot of opponent?

With this squad I've been practicing flying it with the 2 - Bs lined up in front about 1.5 space between them and then Ethan behind 1 full space and in the middle of them.

Looking for tips on flying this little squad. How should they use formations to the best of their ability and does Ethan use his agility to draw opponent fire and fly separately from them?

I've flown a very similar list only I use Mangler cannons and Fire Control System on two Blues. Interesting I even deployed in the same pattern you described! I found it very difficult to keep the formation flying with the difference between the E & Bs dials, so now I run the B-Wings on a straight joust whilst I get Etahn to fly up a flank and hard turn towards the combat zone so his ability is triggered. If my opponent trys to meet me head on there is usually a lot of carnage :-)

I would also suggest that you look to something other than Ion cannons, Yes it is useful to ionize your opponents but those attacks can't benefit from Etahn's ability. Since the Ewing is a pricy investment you want to be focusing your list entirely on causing damage. I have had success with Plasma missiles to reduce shields quicker and get those lovely crits happening sooner. Good luck!

Hmmmmm good point. Dont have plasma so switched to another blue instead of dagger and put two torpedos on. Going to fly it for the first time for real this morning. Probably going to get destroyed but it will be fun!

That was fun. Took out the advanced sensors and added two fire control systems. Moved the engine upgrade to Etahn so I can more consistency keep ships in his arc. Now debating taking the other engine upgrade off the B and adding Shield upgrade or marksmanship or proton torpedos to Etahn.
