IG-88 Squad

By Epixca, in X-Wing

Hi, I am new to the forum, so bare with me. I recently purchased, 2 IG-88s. I am having a lot of fun with them. I just can't get the hang of making a good squad. Next year I am thinking about entering some tournaments, so I need some advice. As of right now, this is my squad.

IG-88B - PTL, Stealth Device (When I get Autothrusters, I will change them.), Advanced Sensors, Inertial Dampeners, Mangler Cannon, and the IG-2000 Title Card.

IG-88C - Same loadout.

The only problem I have, is the fact that I only have ONE Advanced Sensors, I have been proxying lately, but that won't fly is a tournament. XD Any advice on a competetive, IG-88 build? If you have won any tournaments with IG-88 (or come close) I would also love to hear about it.

If you like S-looping and boosting, take Predators.

PTL+Sensors require some practice

help yourself with some glitterstims and\or take some ion bombs. sometimes they make a difference when dealing with pesky arcdodgers, forcing them some maneuvers instead of simply boost-rolling around your arcs.

Welcome.

Also. Hlc (heavy laser cannon) is a huge difference maker for pushing damage through vs mangler cannon.

Those Auto Thrusters really make those Aggressors fun.

I also tend to like FCS over Adv. Sensors. Having TLs, an HLC, and the ability to take a second cannon shot when you miss = constant destruction.

IG-88s are one of the harder ships to learn, especially with Advanced Sensors. So no matter what, take your time. Your list looks fine once you get Autothrusters. Keep flying and practicing even if you're losing at first and don't overhaul your list just yet.

With that said, I also suggest using HLCs when you can afford them. You only have 2 ships on the field, they only have front arcs, and they can be arc-dodged easily by aces. You need to make your shots count... and hurt.

I'm looking at your collection and here's something you could run that's very similar to what you have (still short another AdvSen and 2 Autothrusters).

IG-88B

Mangler Cannon

Autothrusters

PTL

AdvSen

IG-88C

Inertial Dampeners

Heavy Laser Cannon

Autothrusters

PTL

AdvSen

88C can pump out a lot of damage with the HLC while your opponent chases B. If they turn to engage C, then you have Inertials to buy you some time. Even when C goes down, a Mangler gets better late game when shields are down and B's ability will help make sure those crits get through.

You can also try..

Ig88 A and Ig88 C

Crack shot

Enhanced scopes

Black sun ace

Crack shot.

Thanks for the help guys! I do have one problem. :( If you look at the ships I have, I am very limited to my choices. For Christmas this year, (and my B-Day on Jan 3.) I am hoping to get some more ships to help me out. Hopfully I get the Star Viper so I can get thoughs autothrusters. If you guys could do a bit of research on the ships I have, and see what upgrades they come with, I would appriciate a build using the cards I have. I love your suggestions though, can't wait to get some of thoughs cards.

Here are the links to the upgrades I have.

Can you guys also tell me how to change my pic to an X-Wing ship? I can't figure it out.

One more thing. I have friends telling me to use D or A. I have never used A, because I think he kinda sucks. :/ And D I have used on and off, my question, is who should I use? D, C, or A? (Always using B of course)

This is not a beginner ship. You need to practice a lot and be prepared to lose a lot.

I know that. But do you have anything helpful to add to my last comment?

I think any of them can work with B just fine. All I can say is try them out and see.

A is best vs swarms

B is the staple

C is the most forgiving and most action economic

D is the most maneuverable.

D is the one that I keep wanting to make work. Especially with expert handling and advanced sensors. But it's a high skill ship.

C is good to start with because you can short your maneuver a bit during planning and then boost to finish the angle to keep getting a shot. Pick up an evade token for defense and because of the gunner effect of b, you'll use not need to modify your attack but still push damage through.

I know that. But do you have anything helpful to add to my last comment?

I would say stick with C for the most part.

A requires immense forethought to make the most of his ability.

D is pretty situational and you will find that most of the time the soft 3 sloop is usually the better option.

If you can get in any games of Epic using all 4 I would highly recommend it.

Thanks. Like always, I would like to see some builds using the cards I have. I would really appreciate it.

Here's a build using your cards.

IG88B - HLC, Predator, Inertial Dampeners, Hull Upgrade (or Stealth Device), IG-2000

IG88D - HLC, Outmaneuver, Advanced Sensors, Inertial Dampeners, IG-2000

Ideally both IGs would always have System upgrades (either Advanced Sensors, Fire-Control System or Sensor Jammer), but limited by your collection.

With advanced sensors and outmaneuver on IG88D you can advanced sensors boost and then segnors and get into good position to activate outmaneuver. There are better EPTs to have than Outmaneuver (Predator, VI (on both) and Crack shot) but again limited by your collection

You could switch out one HLC for a Mangler on B (and take another Hull Upgrade or Stealth Device), but I would recommend always having at least one HLC.

I love Inertial Dampeners, but haven't got around to trying Glitterstim, but you don't have Glitterstim so ID is the Illicit of choice.

Hope that helps

You can build this with the cards you have. It is not optimal but it should scare the bejeezers out of most squads and will help you learn the ins and out of Aggressors

Thanks for the ideas guys! This really helped . . . A LOT! Sadly, I only have 1 VI, but I made that build work. My favorite was the BD one. Thanks so much guys.

My new IG-88 BUILD!! (Missing 1 Advanced Sensors.)

-IG88C (36)

IG-2000 (0)

Tell me what you think. I am proxying one of the Advanced Sensors, otherwise . . . Here it is! :D

So many people reading, but no comments? Can someone tell me if my build is good or not?

Those ones look pretty good. Pick up a shuttle or another E-wing for that second Advanced Sensors.

Here's another load-out you might try for one of your Aggressors.

IG-88D (36)

-IG-2000 (0)

-Outmaneuver (3)

-Heavy Laser Cannon (7)

-Advanced Sensors (3)

-Inertial Dampeners (1)

With D's ability, you can have a great time dodging arcs and triggering Outmaneuver. Advanced Sensors will let you get an action before your Segnor's Loop.

Thanks for the tip. I am thinking about buying one off of Ebay. Kinda pricey. But you gotta do whatcha gotta do. :/

It costs 6.95. Would you say that is worth it?
