Imperial Raider and Rebel Tantive

By shaner, in X-Wing Off-Topic

Hello folks,

I am looking for some real honest opinions concerning these large investments that I am considering. I like these ships, but I am unsure of how much use they would get and I'm wondering if my money is better spent elsewhere. I understand that I would need the cards for tournament play, but there are very few actual sanctioned tournies in my area.

So, when do you use these ships? I assume they are for epic games and scenarios. I have never played an epic game or a scenario...are they fun? Are there any Video BatReps out there that I can watch where these ships are being used? How are you folks using them?...or are they just dust collectors for collectors??

Thanks for your info.

Shaner

I have all the epic ships.

Maybe I am unusual in this aspect, but I personally haven't played a single game with any of them yet. I expect that when I do eventually play with them, those epic games will be the exception and not the rule. That, for me is what is going to inform/flavor my advice.

If you don't mind paying for ships that aren't going to see a lot of table time, or (said another way) if you are okay with a costly investment, whose return isn't going to be measured by how much play they see, that is, if you're buying these so that you have the option to play epic games - then I think they will be as good an investment as your expectations will allow. You -will- use some of the cards that presently are only available through paying the ransom buying these ships, so that is an added bonus.

I wouldn't buy them just for the upgrades - as it is very difficult (for me at least) to feel justified in spending that kind of money for just a few upgrade cards -- but that is me. I do buy some expansions primarily for the upgrades, but then I am spending a lot less for those upgrades, and that sort of sets the tone - spending four times as much for similar upgrades wouldn't be enough (on most days - I do have moments of weakness) to provoke a purchase out of me.

Hope that helps.

The epic ships look so awesome they are basically a must buy for me, based on looks alone.

My epic ships look mighty nice on a bookshelf across from my desk. That is where they will probably spend 99.9% of their time. Do I regret buying them? Not one bit.

I have them and have never used them, but as DanD. posted above, if your money should be spent elsewhere, spend it. I have them because I want to have the option to play Epic, I wanted the cards, and it felt squarely into "disposable" income for me. I wouldn't have bought them had I needed to buy something else instead.

I would get the raider JUST for the tie advanced title cards!! seriously it makes a hohum ship into a beast.. High PS pilots really benefit from the advanced targeting computer while the lower ones can get free accuracy corrector allowing you to evade every turn for basically free. and of course the tantive comes with C3po..

Yeah, the Gozanti has totally made me re-evaluate Epic and the existing Epic ships.

The cards that come with the gozanti that can be used for any epic ship.

You need to read the latest gozanti spoiler, and digest that.

Epic ships used to be difficult to use because the energy-distribution mechanics made it difficult to use them to their fullest potential.

(Ie. Worth their points.)

Now they can be kitted out as missile platforms: and are able to become much more durable.

(You could easily off multiple light fighters per turn with one of these done right.)

By the way, I did pick up these vessels and I do NOT regret it. They are too cool not to love.

Thanks everyone for your insights.
