Am I evil?

By Darkcloak, in X-Wing

I was in my FLGS the week after Wave 7 hit, when I saw the owner talking to a guy by the X-Wing display. I went over, found out he was interested in learning how to play so I set up a game and gave him an introduction.

A while later, the owner's husband came over with a puzzled look, holding a K-Wing and a TIE Punisher. He asked me which one was better. I told him it depended on what you wanted to do. He asked which one I would get next, and I told him probably the K-Wing. He handed it to me and said "Here. That guy you showed how to play bought $200 worth of X-Wing stuff, and made a point of saying what a good salesman you were."

Does that make me evil as well, or just an enabler?

Neither, just a good salesman.

While the margin-hoarder in me cringes at giving away $20 after just a $200 sale I do find myself impressed with the shop. Hopefully they ask Gullwind to organize X-Wing demo days or regular play nights in exchange for a permanent 10% discount.

That really isn't that bad of a price. MSRP is like $70USD for the two, that'd be $93CAN and some change with no tax. If tax is really 13% then that'd be 80CAN before tax, the same as getting it here for about $60USD. $60USD for the two at a brick and mortar store really isn't that bad. Math isn't my strong suit but I like money....mmmm money.

(Fingers crossed my international math isn't wrong)

Falcon + Core Set = ~$90

Thats a lot of markup

That's what makes it evil ;)

No existential crisis questions until after the next preview please.

Actually, I run demos there quite a bit, and they don't normally give me a discount at all. But they do devote half the floor area to gaming tables, including three big miniature tables, that people can use for free. Whenever there is a special event, she puts out a ton of food, not to mention hand-made prizes. We had an X-Wing tournament back in September, and two of the prizes were these white garbage cans with domes that she made vinyl stickers for to make them look like R2-D2. She does a ton for the local gaming community, so I certainly don't mind helping out here and there.
