Am I evil?

By Darkcloak, in X-Wing

Talked this kid into a core set today. Then I let him vaporize a couple T70s. Told him that if he didn't get that Falcon my wife was coming in laterto buy it.

Just about $90 :). Mwuhahahaha!

Also traded a custom paint job for the shop owners stressbot. Pretty good day so far...

Are you evil? Well, I don't want to stereotype based on apparel, but your username is "Darkcloak", so....

A core-set and a falcon for 90 bucks sure sounds a bit evil...

Evil would have been giving the kid some free space marines and convincing him to buy some models that were only valid under the last codex.

Oh ha-ha! $90 Canadian! That's what? Like 15 pesos?

If you have to ask.

Manipulative? Yes. Conniving? Yes. Evil? The jury's still out on the charge.

Or Age of Sigmar ;)

You should have harrased the store owner into giving you 10% on account of you "making that sale" ;)

I was in my FLGS the week after Wave 7 hit, when I saw the owner talking to a guy by the X-Wing display. I went over, found out he was interested in learning how to play so I set up a game and gave him an introduction.

A while later, the owner's husband came over with a puzzled look, holding a K-Wing and a TIE Punisher. He asked me which one was better. I told him it depended on what you wanted to do. He asked which one I would get next, and I told him probably the K-Wing. He handed it to me and said "Here. That guy you showed how to play bought $200 worth of X-Wing stuff, and made a point of saying what a good salesman you were."

Does that make me evil as well, or just an enabler?

Evil is but a point of view

If your mother was a witch and she was burned alive, then yes, you are evil

Hey, that crazy wizard Old Ben Kenobi filled a young farm boy's head full of fantastic stories and gave him a fancy dangerous weapon and then convinced him to follow him into the most wretched, villainous spaceport in the galaxy and then onwards to other dangerous exploits. The kid eventually joined up with terrorists and was instrumental in causing the deaths of thousands of loyal service men and women, and then later helped assassinate the galaxy's ruler.

If that's not evil, then I think you're just fine.

Neither, just a good salesman.

I am man. Yes I am.

Mwuhahahaha...

Never mention that awful thing again, it summons daemons of flawed rules derp-names and wicked pricings!

Falcon + Core Set = ~$90

Thats a lot of markup

It's our tax rate too though :(. In Ontario at least, we have 13% tax. And with recent price inflations due to the CAD/USD exchange, $40 for either kit isn't abnormal. After tax that would be $90.

**** you boys are paying WAYyyy to much. Here you can get that for like $50... or less!

Good move gettinng the kid into the game!

^_^

And that's the best price in town too. It seems like a lot but considering if the mid had gone into the other game shop and been shown 40k his $90 would have gotten him literally only a tiny fraction of an army. Maybe a box of troops and one of the single figure clampacks?

To be fair to the shop it is a good price for what you get. If the dollar wasn't so bad then I'm sure the prices would be adjusted accordingly.

At any rate its another grunt in a Tie fighter and that's all the Emperor cares about.

That's still cheaper than UK prices if you're buying at the RRP. The core set is £30, and the Falcon £25. £55 is about 110 CAD according to Google...

Oof. Yea that's rough. I know prices vary greatly between stores in the Toronto area - maybe that's the case in the UK too.

For example, our cheapest supplier has IG-88 for $32 whereas smaller stores have it for around $45. That's almost a 50% increase which is pretty incredible.

But having talked to owners of small stores, they just can't afford to have prices as low. They're not so much price-gouging as they are trying to stay afloat, so I have no problem giving them my business when my wallet isn't so light.

First thing that came to mind, was this.
