Any new alien species/beasts?
Beasts, yes. Alien species? Well, there's an important Pantoran NPC that is statted out, but the book doesn't give stats for new base species.

I got mine today - its stitting on my bed next to me as we speak. Mind you, I'm not running the game, so I've not looked at it beyond skimming the art inside.
Do the PCs have a choice of which side to aid? Can they kill Tyber Zann instead?

This might be venturing into spoiler territory a bit, but I'll just say there's at least one sidebar that encourages the GM to go with the flow of whatever crazy idea the PCs want try. In fact, the title of that sidebar is What Do You Mean, "Yes" ?

It doesn't specifically say, though it does say that the adventure could be worked in as part of an existing campaign or used to kick off a brand new campaign, which sort of implies it shouldn't be terribly difficult for brand new characters. While flipping through, I did notice a few skill checks included one or more red Challenge dice though.
