Star Wars Battlefront

By heychadwick, in X-Wing Off-Topic

It launched yesterday and I got to play it for a solid hour. Not the beta, but the actual game. I just did the quick matches where you try to get 100 kills. It took me about 15 minutes to just stop dying and be effective, but it was A LOT OF FUN.

The graphics are excellent. I especially love how the lasers hit and cause a plasma spark shower sometimes. I played all the small to medium maps and no big walkers or ships or anything. The graphics were great.

I liked the gameplay. There seemed to be a ton of different game modes. One was where droids wander around and you have to capture them....but they move? That sounds brilliant. I also liked the capture the pod from the beta and will like to try it on new maps.

Spawning was good with me spawning close to an enemy only once. I never spawned too far away very often, either.

Endor map was really cool. Lots of places to move around and not really open. I liked getting up on the Ewok village in the trees and firing down on people. Made me make sure to look for it when I was on the ground and take some of them down.

One thing I'm not sure on is the weapons. I unlocked the standard Imperial MG. It's the one based off of the MG34 from WWII. It's got medium range and good rate of fire, but low damage. I was able to unlock a further model that was exactly the same.....but more damage and range. I do like that you get other weapons when you get higher levels, but I don't want them to be too overpowered. I don't want someone to come in late and get smoked by someone of a higher level with a gun that's just inherently better. I was thinking that each gun would be viable in their own way with it's own pros and cons. This wasn't that at all. It pretty much made my earlier purchase obsolete as soon as I got it.

I was playing the Starfighter mode. Currently have a 2.87ish KD rating, after a dozen or so games.

The average Xbox-liver isn't a match for Death on Black wings.

Also, Starfighter is the great equalizer. unlocks don't really apply.

I've been playing Battlefront like crazy, especially the Squadron Mode. Check it out on my channe l.

I haven't tried the starfighter mode yet. It looks fun, though.

I've been a FPS gamer for a while and that's kind of what I was drawn to first. I'll admit I only had an hour to try it out. I might have another hour tonight while my son does homework.

Last week at game night had reduced attendance due to Fallout 4. I wonder if this game will do the same. I like the game, but don't want to miss out on X-wing because of it.

Fighter Squadron is so far the only multiplayer I've tried since the beta. Quite fun. A bunch of AI controlled TIEs and X-Wings will fly around, not sure they ever kill anyone. They do help keep the game down to a good length, since killing them earns points and they don't dodge as well as human players often do.

Survival is a lot of fun. Seems a bit easy but next time I play I'll try it on hard and see what it's like then.

I actually tend to focus on killing enemy players... OMG I need a special trick for memorizing where falcon/slave1 spawns. I often top the scoreboard without it, but last time i got the falcon i had a higher score than the next 3-4 people put together. Was beautiful.

I've had two AI X-Wings blindside kamikaze me while I was tailing a transport.

Is this the thread to post system and usernames? Who needs friends on PS4: Visceroth

I bet you will never guess my xbox handle: heychadwick

I'm Crabbok on Xbox Live. Been playing starfighter the most. I love it.

Here's the problem though - Imperials are underpowered. I don't know exactly how, but it feels like the TIEs die almost instantly. And yet, have the exact same firepower as the rebels. Rebel ships are tougher, AND can throw up shields, and with the A-Wing , just as maneuverable as an interceptor. The Imperials REALLY need a TIE Advanced. Granted it IS possible to rack up a bunch of kills on an interceptor - it's just WAY easier on an A-Wing.

And the hero ships are broken. Stupidly overpowered. I get a Slave 1 and I'm getting about 10K points this map, no problem. Don't even have to dodge missiles.... because I'm not gonna die... and even if I DO die I'll have 9 - 10K by then so I've already won. Honestly the ONLY time I've ever died prematurely was from crashing. Falcons like to crash in to Slave-1's. a lot.

Hero ships need to be about HALF as tough as they currently are. That or give them a time limit. It sucks to see the same person go after the hero powerup EVERY GAME. (Yes I've done it back-to-back games I admit, but it's lame).

A-Wings are the bomb.

A-Wings are the bomb. It's gotta be the hitbox. Interceptors fly roughly the same but can't be as evasive.

The Falcon is the most ridiculous thing ever.

The A-Wing has to have a different hitbox or something, they're almost impossible to kill right. They should have boost and not their shields, at least that made them more vulnerable.

Also only have been playing Squadron. Personally, I think the hero ships only hurt your ability to score. Once you get one you spend so much time avoiding fire from the other human players you can't shoot at anything else. Now, if your team was smart they would just shoot down everyone chasing the hero ship but more often than not they're too busy wasting time shooting at AI.

Perhaps the Tie Fighter is a finesse ship, but people just aren't good with them yet? Might take a bit of time to figure them out? It's like the Imperial Assault mode. It seemed impossible for Rebels to win, but I've lost as Imperials near the end of Beta.

no no no no no no no no.....

Next time you get a hero just don't bother avoiding fire. Just rack up kills. You've got 50 billion hit points on a hero ship so might as well just soak up the missiles and LAUGH at your enemies! HA HA HA! I shout "SHOOT ME!" because I know I'm virtually invulnerable.

That's not a bad idea. Now that I'm thinking about it, I remember several times camping on Boba or Han's six and firing for literally minutes.

Yeah they are broken IMO. No way an X-Wing should be able to fire directly into a Slave-1 for like 2 minutes straight without consequence.

Try multiple X-Wings and A-Wings. Once the Slave 1 hits his ECM everyone is clueless on what to do haha.

Don't care fallout four...maybe in another month.

I'm on the PC version. Guess the nick. :)

I've been away from FPS for years - like Rainbow 6 was the last one, and that was in the era of Rogue Spear. Still, the maps are gorgeous and I like the gameplay overall. Not a fan of the ship controls yet, but that's mostly because I'm trying to fly them using a mouse which never feels right.

I could write a squadron guide:

First off, see the X-wing and TIE Fighter? Ignore them, Interceptor and A-wing FTW.

Basically full throttle till you can engage, then all power to guns, and keep tailing an opponent till it's dead. if you get shot at by a player you have a split second to hit RB to either speed boost or shield, / engines to full then go skim the ground, repair acquire target, all to guns and continue.

By all means potshot heroes, but don't bother trying to kill them.

Once you are a hero, just all to guns and keep killing. you'll never die.

Oh, and always hold down LT for lock. autolocking, focus on players first - because you are a **** and like to kill players, when there aren't players, kill whatever AI you see.

Shoot the Transport with all guns, but don't bother hiding on it's tail, just turn, kill a player and turn back to finish off. The transport is slow enough that you don't need to lock, and if you can see it you can hit it, shoot from range. Close in, kill players, finish.

There. That's my guide. It's what I do, and well. Even though i've got only an hour and a half play, my KD is over 2.85, with 67% win rate. It works. I rarely bother trying to hero, and even without getting it I was always top3 in the scoreboards - usually 1st. The one time I did get a hero near the beginning of a game, I was 1st - with enough score to encompass the next 4 guys after me.

One other thing I do is while leaving the button controls standard, I switched stick to southpaw. It feels more natural.

I tried the fighter mode last night and did horrible. I should do the tutorial first. I was just glad it was near the end of the round as 0-5 was my k/d.

Also....I just sucked last night. My k/d was great for the first night, but when I played last night....I did bad. I was just dying without being able to accomplish much. It was terrible. I don't get it. I think my k/d is now .6.

Well, WFH today and I'll see if I can play some.

Yup. I honestly don't know why they made 4 ships when only 2 are viable. The A-Wing is superior in ever. single. way. And it's a shame. Same goes for the Interceptor. I think the only reason for having a TIE Fighter (or x-wing) is so that hopefully enemies won't be so quick to target you, that they might assume you are the AI, and prioritize killing Interceptors (Or A-Wings) first... but even that only works at long range, because closer up your name will show up and it'll be clear you aren't AI.

I'm anxious to see some balance tweaks to the game. I'd like X-Wings to be tougher, and A-Wings to have slightly weaker guns but keep the better maneuverability. I'd like Interceptors to be much stronger, but TIE Fighters should get some advantage like faster/closer respawn.

My copy, including an Xbox One, will arrive tomorrow. Unfortunately I'll be working when it arrives so saturday to hook stuff up and start playing.
