Star Wars Battlefront

By heychadwick, in X-Wing Off-Topic

I was camping this past weekend and didn't get much time to play, but I did a little bit with my son on Sunday. I had a good time, except he needs the flight controls to be on normal and I am used to reverse flight controls due to too many pc games. I'm having a hard time adjusting.

Why do you say that the game is crappy and only 4 maps? Are you ONLY playing the fighter version of the game? If you are doing that, then it's ignoring 2/3 of what the game was about. It's not meant as only a ship vs ship game. I still haven't gotten around to trying all the various game modes yet.

The couple of times I tried Supremacy, I just died before I had a chance to figure out what was going on. I'll eventually get back to it, but not really into it at the moment.

I'm really liking the quick one with 12 people per side. Run and gun in the various game modes. I like it. I do the pod drop one when I need a change of pace. I also want to try the droid one. I did try the hero mode before trying out the demo with hero abilities and just hated being a hero. I had no clue what I was doing and just died.

So much to try out and get used to, but I'm moving the game. Lots of replay value with all the game modes. Love the graphics. I'll be doing co-op play with my son a lot. Wish there were more of those games.

4 planets, 8 maps.

Still not much variety in maps there, no matter how you look at it.

It's enjoyable with a bunch of people and voice comms, but then most games are.

I actually kind of like how headshots aren't one hit kills in this, though that took me a bit to get used to. it's all about the stat cards/ weapons/group tactics. A group with voice comms will beat a group without. (Making their choice not to include game chat truly baffling).

I'm looking forward to next years new content as i got the season pass, but feel that some of it really should have been included in the base game, and hope that the battle of jakku isn't the only free expansion we'll get.

I also both like and dislike the customability of troopers, in that imperial troops should be uniform.. but you need to be Level 40 to be different from a regular trooper. For Imperial that makes sense, for rebel... not as much.

I like the weapon selection, except the Jawa cannon doesn't really fit as a shotgun, there should be more. As an imperial styled player I can't bring myself to use it, but that's ok because....

See above: The T21B. I call mine lucy. I love lucy. Stick me in good cover, with my steath trait, preferably flanking an enemy approach and I am happy. Throw in the explosive shot card and I am a silent reaper.

Fighter squadrons. I play a lot of, but see above, kinda had my fill of it. Nothing to prove anymore.

The problem is that it needs more depth. Right now i'm just going to say it, it's pointless flying an X-wing or TIE Fighter.

Need a mode with more objectives, and ships that can handle those objectives. Ships that mean it's just just A-wing (which due to tracking bugs is OP) vs TIE Interceptor. With the two hero ships.

Have ground objectives that require TIE Bombers and Y-wings to deal with.

Have low agility ships capable of missile spam.

For gods sake balance the A-wing.

Make anti-ship torpedoes. This could make fighter squadrons into something beautiful. Attack runs on star destroyers by X-Y-B wings escorted by A's? Against swarms of TIE Advanced and interceptors, while bombers go for the MC80? Oh godyes!

Can we have a Tantive IV or other "boarding" mission?

I like, and even prefer the open space of being planetside to the cramped confines of a boarding operation but... It's what us Stormtroopers do man!

DICE got kind of lazy when designing the game modes. I wish there was a true conquest game mode like regular battlefield. Supremacy just isn't the same. Seems more confined.

Driod run or whatever its called is basically a small conquest mode, but its not as fun as drop pod. There is less centralized fighting in it.

The cargo mode is basically CTF. Pretty basic.

Hero hunt is by far the worse mode. Its entirely too frustrating. You can do 90% damage to the hero and have someone come in and steal the kill and you don't get anything to show for it. They really should change it to whoever does the most damage to the hero becomes it. Otherwise it just promotes people hanging back until the hero is near death and just mopping up.

I haven't tried the other hero mode, but it looks promising.

Yeah, the base game needed less modes, but more maps for each mode. They really could have dropped Droid and Hero hunt.

Hero hunt mode = Drop the T21 and use a DH or DLT for the kill shot.

It is also a clone of Halo's Juggernaut mode.

Game needs a Free-for-all mode, and two more ship modes.

Ship Free-For-All, and a ship mode with Capital vs Capital - ISD vs Mon Cal - you can either defend your own capital ship, or attack the enemy capital ship. You spawn near your own ship so attacking is more dangerous.

The Interceptor and A-Wing both shoot 2 missiles instead of 1 like the X-Wing and TIE Fighter. Not sure if total damage is more or less, or it's purely visual.

The Ints and X-Wings also have more guns, but that doesn't mean they're actually doing more damage than the TIE Fighters and the A-Wings.

In short, we have no idea and everything is guesswork because no one has datamined anything for the game yet.

Last thing, I think the TIEs shoot Ion torpedoes that goes through Rebel shields. Someone confirm?

I am just going off of what the players guide said. It also said that IMP fighters will have to cut power from their engines too guns more often to be able to kill Reb fighters. This is in consequence to the attribute mentioned earlier in the guide that the imperial starfighters cannons are underwhelming compared to the Rebel versions.

Xwings and tie fighters die quicker. I target them first as they are easy kills, whereas with an A-wing i risk chasing it around missing for 2 minutes while his wingman picks me off. Really annoying buggers to fight, x-wings though. they die so quick.

I've decided after a bunch more games that the A-wing is a little imba compared to the tinter, but not much. That hitbox makes them a tad too hard to kill.

I've unlocked the T-21 rifle, but it doesn't seem to have the stopping power it's low refire rate seems to require. Back to Daisy (my E-11).

Well I don't die hardly at all when I am in the X-Wing. There times I purposely was screwing around not killing people when I was forced to be a Reb, and I would survive a real long time in one. The reason I did that is because I wont to get most of my achievements for dogfighting while playing as Imperial.

Oh and EA have said that they will be making two more SW BFs... Thats lame... So I have to buy another one next year or something...?

So, what's everyone's favorite guns? Having unlocked all of them, I feel I can safely say my favorites are the E-11, and EE-3.

T-21B, A280C, EE3 in that order.

I want to like the E-11 more, but I find the 280C more effective in it's range bracket.

I don't find imp guns much weaker, i find the targeting computer unable to track the A-wing a problem.

Method around this: in a good team, protect the slave 1, make sure one of your team mates on voice comms IS the slave one, call out A-wings for him and cover his back.

I've done some effective matches with friends like this.

Rebels have a massive advantage when they can do this, as they can just turn shields on, and weave a bit - dodging fire while a wingman takes a tie off their tail, an a-wing due to the soft lock problem above can do this for minutes, an interceptor... a lot less.

I understand developers plan for future releases but when it is thrown in your face on day 1 .. Kind of feels like we werent sold a complete package.

You mean like a certain miniatures game about dogfighting in space? Or, by the same company, a miniatures dungeon crawl/skirmish game in space?

:P .

This. I think Imperial guns feel weaker because of the shield power-up. If you are sitting there blasting an A-wing or X-wing and its not doing anything, then you are just hitting shield. It gives the Rebels a huge advantage. The problem is the Imperial craft don't have any particular advantage. They have boost, but that isn't nearly as good as Shield boost. I think if you boost shields, then your guns should go offline. I think that will help balance them better.

I haven't unlocked all the guns, but I really like the shock blaster, but only on certain maps. For all around gun its hard to beat the DLT-19. I also like that burst pistol, can't think of the name right now. It can be brutally effective up close and personal.

I hope the T-21B is better than the T-21. I can't do anything with it.

The pistol is the SE14C.

The T-21B is my rifle of choice currently and I love it.

I didn't like the T21. So... take that however you want.

The T-21B is definitely an improvement over the T-21.

Darious, I totally get you about the AWing in dogfight mode. I was able to more or less fly around in the middle of the scrum, and rarely get soft-locked (probably due to the targetting gliches) and kept blasting away. If I did get followed, I could just sheild up, and fly around erractically to stay alive for a while. I kept getting better scores than the other guys who had Slave I and the Falcon for the majority of the match. Then when I'd switch to Imperials, I could barely get a kill before I got soft-locked and a split second later: dead. *Shrug* Good thing the Interceptor looks wicked cool to fly around, otherwise flying the Imperials wouldn't be much fun. Or you just fly around only looking for the Hero power-up.

It's a long range rifle, that can actually be used at long range :-)

And yeah, it's a commonly reported problem with the A.

Teamwork mate, get the slave 1 to do A-wing cleanup duty. (It can soft lock them).

My favorite tactic is flying behind your own hero ship and mopping up everyone fruitlessly trying to down it.

YES!!!

Also, if you get the hero ship. fly a bit behind the transport. They just fly right into your crosshairs!

I'd like a mode where you have to secure a crash site. I have this thing about crash sites...

Are the transports out of scale? They feel small when you're on the ground. The one on Tatooine you can stand on. That tower looks too small to be the bridge.

Anybody playing around with the companion app as well?

Apart from a rudimentary base defense it also allows you to customize your star cards without being in the game and earn some credits.

I use companion yeah...

Hard to say on the transport, but I can say that T-47 feels TINY in that hangar.

Has anyone else noticed that there is a GR75 (and I think a shuttle) in every planet?

I've been using it. The base defense game gets brutally hard. I guess I need to unlock more cards for it.

yeah it does. When they throw Vader, Emperor, and Fett against you at the same time, it's not exactly fair.

Apparently being in cockpit view flat out screws you over. Your ability to determine who is a real boy and who is a robot is hampered in cockpit view, the detection range is reduced i would say alot. Just for the hell of it i flew in 3rd person and i couldn't believe how far i could detect who was r3al. I wont stop flying in cockpit mode though, its only fair i nerf myself.

Yeah, i'd like to see a hardcore mode that forces cockpit mode, but it's impractical to use it in a regular game.

Anyone else turn their controller sensitivity way down?

I'm at 7% on the ground and 1% in the air
