Crazy A-wings: expose and opportunist

By Jedu, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi everyone!

I've noticed, that I usualy think of lists, which are supposed to be competitive. Nothing extraordinary, no out-of-the-box thinking. I've sticked to the schemes like "interceptors and a-wings have to be equipped with PTL and autothrusters, y-wings with TLT are the best" etc. I felt that my imagination has left somewhere to a galaxy far, far away... and this is never good - especially when we realise, that X-wing is a game (please, don't hate me - I haven't used the word "JUST" ;)) and as a game, it should be fun and give pleasure in the first place. Of course, winning gives the best pleasure, but without winning, playing is/might be fun :)

So I've let my thoughts freely and figured out something, which should be fun to fly.

A-wing - Green Squadron Pilot 19+6

- Opportunist, Expose, Refit, Title

A-wing - Green Squadron Pilot 19+6

- Opportunist, Expose, Refit, Title

X-wing - Garven Dreis 27+1

- R2, integrated

Y-wing - Gold Squadron Pilot 18+5

- Ion Cannon Turret

Total of 100pts.

The idea is to have 2 ships, which threat enemy of throwing 3, 4 or even 5 dice attacks. Of course they are many disadvantages, e.g. you have to spend your action to throw another die and you can't reroll or use focus. But still- it should be fun. Garven shall be there to ocassionaly give a focus to an a-wing. And y-wing will support them with the element of control with ion cannon.

Do you think that this list is at least playable? I'll give it a go soon, but before that I would like to hear your opinion.

playable? Certainly, anything is playable. Competitive? Well, probably not. You've made target priority easy: kill the a-wings that have been turned into pseudo-phantoms (but no way to cloak). Even easier since if you expose, you have no token to modify defense dice. Once you lose those a-wings, it will be difficult for 1 x-wing + 1 y-wing to beat most enemy lists, unless the a-wings managed to deal lots of damage before going down (maybe they can against enemy jousters, but unlikely against other types of lists...)

Maybe Esege w/ Recon Spec to provide the focus that he won't likely need with a TLT, and Wes Janson to strip their tokens before the A's fire. You lose the Y-wing control but the A's can maneuver pretty well enough without it.

Edit: Looks like that goes over 100 pts quickly with 2 A's like that, would need some reconfiguring

I'd probably replace Expose with Outmaneuver if you want a fun, decently competitive list. Expose is a terrible card in general, but Outmaneuver is fairly useful on A-Wings, and its always fun to bump those pesky Y-Wings down to no evade dice.

If you replaced garvin with biggs it might give the A's more survivability possibly. Admittedly you lose the extra passing focus but may mean u can get more shot off before you have to worry about getting shot back.

Completely agree it's the right "tactical" decision but who doesn't love rolling that many attack dice for the moment your opponent rolls all blanks. It's like Xmas and your birthday at same time
