Fire Control System without Targeting Computer?

By 1mikethebuilder1, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hi folks, can a ship unequipped with target lock capability use Fire Control System to automatically acquire a target lock on a defender, or is Target Lock/Computer a prerequisite? My buddy used Fire Control System with his tie phantom to acquire target locks even though a phantom can't originally do it. Thanks, Mike

Yes you can. FCS allows you to obtain a Target Lock, it has nothing to do with the Target Lock action. The only thing a targeting computer does is allow you to perform the Target Lock action.

If fact any time a upgrade allows you to do X, you can do X even if that's not an action that ship can normally perform.

For example Jake can barrel roll, even though barrel roll isn't a action A-Wings can perform.

Not just Epic

Lt Blount with VI and Tracers, riding with 5 bandits with Concussion Missiles.

The bandits Focus, Blount fires

The bandits average 18+ damage on the first round of combat.

Keep in mind Tracers gives Target Locks on the ship targeted by Tracers. It is effective but only on one enemy ship at a time.

And I believe all of the friendly ships have to be in range 1-3 of said target.
