Just how awesome is it that we're getting a new film?

By Darkcloak, in X-Wing

I mean ****! Come on. I kinda feel like we are on the verge of another golden era. In everything really, film, science, society. Star Wars is gonna be great and in 40 more years we will be telling our grandkids about silver and blue droids and black X-Wings.

All hail to the power of X-Wing!

I want to share your mindless optimism but unfortunately I live on a different planet. Earth.

I think the new film will be great...as long as there's no Gungans! Please, oh please no Gungans, not even in the background casually walking by.

30 days tonight!

I'm optimistic but reserved. Abrahams has ruined most things he's touched. His work on Star Trek is an awful mess. He's done numerous interviews explaining that he cares more about presentation to sucker people in than actual quality of the product. Put simply, I don't like him and I don't think he's very good at actually making things.

That said, its Star Wars, and if Lucas couldn't kill it, some hack writer from Lost probably can't either. Even if they're bad, I will still always have episodes 4,5 and 6 to remind me what can happen when things click.

But that crossguard lightsaber is bloody stupid.

Until we've seen it and know it's good or at least okay I wouldn't get too hyped.

Remember we thought the phantom menace trailers looked good.

And jj has never made anything better than an average film, but plenty of stinkers.

I'm not really sure that we needed another film. Or the last three films for that matter. Or the last six if we're counting SE...

It's Disney running franchises into the ground is business as usual.

The marvel universe is much bigger than the star wars so you get much greater variety but even then the bubble will eventually burst.

Dangit... I was all excited about the movies until I read this post. This group is right, Disney has run everything it's touched into the ground lately. Look at what it did with Pixar for starters. That little animation studio won a little Emmy for a short they created, they were bought by Disney and now.... Oh, they're successful.

But Marvel. Holly crap... They bought a failing business that had already had a yard sale on all of their major properties, and Disney swooped in for the quick buck before it sung its funeral memorandum. Between The Advengers, Shield, and the other movies... Oh, Marvel is doing really well.

Regardless, Disney has no track record at stuff like taking beloved franchises and making them successful again. Episode VII is going to suck!

...there really needs to be a sarcasm font...

Loved it.

Totally agree, a sarcasm font would be good. But It would invalidate the intelligence test that occurs without it. hmmm....

Yeah, how awesome would that be.

But the Avengers films were... mediocre, particularly the second one. Without the excellent chemistry and banter between the actors they'd essentially be big budget SyFy originals.

Also, successful != good. It just means that the lowest common denominator turned out in droves to purchase whatever product is being sold.

I do not understand the hate on Abrahms as a director. I love the Star Trek reboots and after having watched them at least half a dozen times each cannot think of a single problem with either film or even a continuity break. And yes I am old enough to have watched the original Star Trek on black and white TV. I booked tickets for the opening day 12.05am screening of Star Wars VII and by the trailers it looks like it will be every bit as good as the original trilogy films.

You sound like me the night before we went to go see the phantom menace ;)

Lol I can picture it in my head: "**** kids these days with their Star wars XIV and their green X-wings! Back in our days x-wings were white and red... and later black and orange (mmmmm Halloween!) And our AT-ATs had to walk to the power generators! Uphill! Trough the snow!"

I'm exited about the new movie (but a flood of bad toys is creating a bit of over exposure for me.) but the best was back in the 90's seeing the Original* movies in the cinema with my dad. He had seen the originals in the cinema when they first came out. and I always wanted to see them on the big screen to.

* well the special editions, meh close enough.

how awesome is it?

as awesome as the film ends up being (or not)

although, the new ships we're getting will be swanky regardless ^_^

bought my ticket for first showing at 9:15am opening day.

Maybe that way I'll avoid spoilers posted by everyone.

J.J. Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy can't be all bad -- they bought me pizza!

Explanation: At celebration VII, hundreds of people waited in line to get into the opening ceremony for the convention. People started lining up way early in the evening the night before. Kennedy and Abrams heard how many people were already lining up and staying the whole night that they bought pizza for everyone there to show their appreciation for our dedication to the franchise. If that ain't a great PR moment, I don't know what is.

...into a lightsaber?

Completely excited for the new movie ...

Dad took me to Empire when i was a kid ... My turn to take him to one ...

You don't happen to have some links to those quotes, do you? My roommate absolutely loves him and I would like to have some ammo next time to topic of JJ's (lack of) talent comes up.

:P There's your first problem. ;)

I wasn't too happy with some of the story in the new Star Trek, ie Vulcan being destroyed .. but didn't think the movies too bad ..

Remember, Kasdan was a writer for this one ... And we all know Empire was the best movie ....... So far.. far .. away...

way things have gone via trailers

the crashing of the FO on tattoine (or tattoine 2.0) with Finn presumably having stolen the plans to that adorable eyelash deathstar in the poster, specifically

First Order comes in and torches everything, instead of just uncle owen

crew escapes on the Falcon, again

lots of X-wing v Tie Fighters etc.

it's going to be Episode 7: a not so new hope
