100pts - A Hunting We go.

By Tirnaog, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Thinking of trying the following 2 lists.

Mostly play against this bugger who has it for B-wings! big time.

He plays 4 PS2 B-wings with ACers or a 3 B-wing list with a few more upgrades on the ships.

Squad 1:

Imp shuttle PS2 with ACers, Tactical Jammers X4

Squad 2:

Imp Shuttle PS2 with ACers, Mangler Canon, Gunner. X 3

Question.

I fire the Mangler Canon and it misses so I can then fire my main weapon.

If the dice roll is terrible from that shot can I then use the AC to get the two HITs?

Thanks

Yes, you can. However, I don't think its a good use of points. I know lots of people love accuracy corrector, but on a 3 attack ship, its not terrible, but not great. You realize that with 3 attack dice you have decent odds of rolling 2 hits (or even 3) without it, right? So you pay 3 points to occasionally get better than 1 hit (or none). And a b-wing doesn't get much value out of focus for defense (same for the shuttle) so its not like you can capitalize on the action economy (unless you really need to barrel roll all the time, I guess, but that's not even an option on a shuttle...)

Imperials have tons of good options for besting b-wings. TIE swarm, Ace interceptors or heavy hitters such as TIE defenders or phantoms all work very well.

Thanks for the reply.

:) you have not seen me rolling dice! { Murphy has taken up residense when I start rolling. }

I seem to be able to easily roll 3/4 blanks more then once in a game.

I have tried nearly everything on the imp side but the swarm. That's my next try to kill or even dent his 3/4 b-wings.

And so far no luck.

So I taught having something pretty close too his list would at least bring it down to Dice/Piloting skills.

The issue here is you still can't turn around. Those B-Wings for all the crap they get about their dials are adept at using that neat little 2-K turn to stay right there with you. If you want to give the B's a real run for their money figure out how to put Engine Upgrade on all of them and use your speed to hamper their ability to stay up with you. One thing B's are not is fast.

Also I play a guy that runs a modified stress list with 3 B's (2 with Tactician and 1 with an Ion Cannon) and a stress Y with ion. I beat him most of the time with my 6 tie swarm. Focus fire with Howlrunner works wonders on low agility ships.

If you run 4 shuttles let us know how you did. I love the stupid albino void sloth!

If dice rarely go your way, Howlrunner is a good option to at least give you another chance (although for some, whatever they rolled the first time, the re-roll invariably is the same...)

TIE swarm loves b-wings because 1 agility cannot stop the 2 attack dice (even better at range 1). Its not hard to fly fast into their faces, throw a bunch of dice, put on a bunch of damage, then have your back row guys bump into the front row (or 1 hard turn, depending, possibly with barrel roll) to block the piddly 2 k-turn while the front row TIEs (those that survived the initial volley) 3 k-turn behind the b-wings (howlrunner leaps over the b-wings because you don't want her to die).

if you want accuracy correctors, you need Tie/x1 Advance

you will curbstomp Bs at range 3, dice capriciousness aside
