[300 Points] Putting faith into squadrons

Thats 8 Squadrons with black anti-ship dice.

Flight Controllers to compete with other squadron-heavy lists.

Tarkin to give more flexibility and to free 10 points for not needed Extended Hangars.

Could this work out in our hands?

I played a similar list and I'll ask you the same thing my friend asked me. Is Darth worth it or should you take a Bomber and a TIE Advanced?

Vader is quite a chunk of points.

If you'd downgrade him to a common Advanced, you'll get Chiraneau in return.

With Chira you are able to trap enemy fighters with your Advanced and attack them with AA in addition (with Gunnery Teams instead of FC) - while you pull out your Bombers of the fight and attack ships.

Or with Vader and Flight Controllers you try to destroy enemy squadrons using your Bombers as well.

Vader activated with Flight Controllers is pretty good vs. enemy squadrons.

Or you could just have Fel instead of Vader...

After a few practice games, I found I really needed to ditch the Flight Controllers for a Vic-II upgrade on Tarkin. Bombers can start to direct traffic, but they can't force a Rebel to go somewhere else... And Chasing a Rebel fleet that scatters, when you only have black dice, sucks... The Blues helped me extend that threat radius.

True ... especially if you are not first player and you cannot spam navigation commands because you do squadron commands ... its very unlikely to get something into black dice range for your attacks.

I think you are over spending into flight controllers, you only want it on one of your ships. I also think this type of list will work better in wave 2 with 2 ISDs as they have the speed to stay in the game. 2 VSDs is very easy to fly circles around.

I am wondering if Tarkin is really needed One could take Motti and 2 Expanded Hanger Bays and shave 4 points. Dropping Vader for another Advanced will shave 9 points. That is Gunnery Teams after getting rid of the Flight Controllers. . .

Early in the game Tarken allows you to obtain squadron tokens and activate a spare squadron. Later in the game those tokens can be enough to just nudge a single squadron into position while you are concentrating fire or repairing.

Who would you consider a better choice?
