First time trying Falcon

By Gamer4000, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I just got the millennium falcon, and was wondering how I should use it, and what squad to set up with it. I have heard that either Wedge, or a Y-wing work well with it.

Ship list in sig.

If I had your collection and had just bought the Falcon, I'd be most excited to try Han out. Engine Upgrade can make the Falcon pretty elusive. From 1 squad point, you might as well add the Millennium Falcon title so that you can evade if there's no place to boost to. I'd throw Luke on there as a crew to make sure you can hit stuff and you might as well put Chewbacca on there to have some fun and give you some resilience. On the topic of resilience, Determination might not be a bad Elite upgrade since you have so much hull. That makes you immune to pilot crits so that you only have to worry about using Chewbacca on ship crits. That puts you at 63 squad points.

You already have a heavy hitter, so I think you're better off filling the list with more ships. This gives you more attacks per turn and also forces your opponent to choose between more targets. Unfortunately, it looks like that will be difficult with your ship lists because you don't have Chardaan Refit to make your A-wing cheaper and you don't have Z-95s which only cost 12 points. My gut instinct was to add a Gold Squadron Pilot with Ion Cannon Turret and a Prototype Pilot, but that puts you 2 over. You could try dropping Chewie to make the A-wing fit, but it might be better just giving yourself another ace.

Poe Dameron is actually pretty good. If you don't mind melding time periods, I might try to fit him into the list. R2-D2 will help him recover those 3 shields over the course of the battle. Veteran Instincts will enable him to shoot first so that with Poe and Han combined, you can maybe take some ships off the board before they ever get a chance to fire at you.

Han Solo (46)

-Millennium Falcon (1)

-Luke Skywalker (7)

-Chewbacca (4)

-Engine Upgrade (4)

-Determination (1)

Poe Dameron (31)

-R2-D2 (4)

-Veteran Instincts (1)

TOTAL: 99 points

This is by no means the best list you can build with your collection. It's just my first pass at it. I'm sure many will say that I've packed too many upgrades into the Falcon. But I don't think the list is bad, necessarily, and it'll be a blast to fly, I'm sure.

Tips for this squad

The Boost action is your friend, and with your high pilot skill, you should have a clear idea where the enemy ships are moving before you have to choose your action. This lets you use your action dodge arcs if necessary. That's easier to do with Han because he can boost out of arc and still fire with his 360 degree turret. Poe will have to be a little more cautious about boosts. Also, Poe's ability makes you really want a focus token, so don't Boost if you don't need to.

Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, there are other aces you could include in your list at the 36-point limit. I just realized that you have Push the Limit and that changes everything.

Han Solo (46)

-Millennium Falcon (1)

-Luke Skywalker (7)

-Chewbacca (4)

-Engine Upgrade (4)

Wedge Antilles (29)

-BB-8 (2)

-Push the Limit (3)

-Engine Upgrade (4)

This is one of my favorite builds for Wedge. The idea here is that you reveal a green maneuver (1-bank, 1-straight, or 2-straight) and do a Barrel Roll with BB-8. Because that's an action, you can use Push the Limit to take another action, like focus. Then you execute the green maneuver and clear the stress you gained from Push the Limit. Now you can take another action, like Target Lock or Boost. You could also Boost after the Barrel Roll to get you to even crazier places after your maneuver. I like this list way better than the Poe one, but I'll leave the Poe one in since I took the time to type it all out anyway.

With what you own you should try,

Han Shoots First

  • Han Solo + Marksmanship + Chewbacca + Gunner
  • 2x Rookie Pilots

Points: 100
History: The first popular Han Solo list. 2013 Worlds Top 8 (Ivan Pastor) and Top 16 (Ryan Krippendorf).
Difficulty: (2/5) Easy.

This list and others can be found here

To find other good options working with limited items (core set plus adds) search these forums for SciFighter's Guide: Budget Builds:

I don't believe he has Gunner. He can use Luke Skywalker instead. Then Marksmanship is slightly redundant, so he can drop that for Determination or Veteran Instincts.

Alternatively, he can toss out Chewbacca and put Nien Numb in his place with a 1-point initiative bid.

Or just leave Nien Numb off and put an R2 Astromech on one X-wing and an R5 Astromech on the other. Or just 2 R5s so you don't have to keep track of which X-wing is which.

EDIT: Or drop Chewie and Gunner for Luke and change one Rookie Pilot into a Gold Squadron Pilot with Ion Cannon Turret.

I'm assuming you meant only 1 Luke on the falcon. Those lists seem fun. Also, which expansion has the point reduction for the A-Wings?

Yep. Fixed it now.

Rebel Aces will get you the Chardaan Refit that fills your A-wing's missile slot to reduce its cost by 2. I believe the pack comes with 3 of them.

With what you have, maybe these:

Poe (Push the Limit, R2-D2, Shield Upgrade)

Chewbacca (Push the Limit, Nien Nunb, Luke Skywalker, Engine Upgrade, Millenium Falcon title)

100 points

Tycho Celchu (Push the Limit, Homing Missiles, Shield Upgrade)
